  • In (what is now modern day) New Zealand, a huge comet strikes the ocean less than a hundred miles from the Chinese fleet of Zhou Man, destroying at least 173 ships, by a mega-tsunami. Observed by Chinese and Mayan astronomers as a comet in Canis Minor for 26 days. [521]

  • Jews are expelled from Eger Bohemia. [1]

  • Joan of Arc handed over to the bishop. [1]

  • Martinus V [Oddo Colonna], Italian Pope, dies. [1]

  • Bishop Gabriele Condulmer elected as Pope Eugene IV. [1]

  • At the Abbey of Saint Ouen in Rouen, Joan of Arc is sentenced to be executed for rejecting church authority. On hearing the verdict, Joan agrees to recant and is instead condemned to perpetual imprisonment. (She changes her mind a few days later, and is again condemned to death.) [129] [1042.743]

  • Joan of Arc is excommunicated, sentenced to be burned at the stake the next day. [1042.744]
May 30
  • At Rouen in English-controlled Normandy, Joan of Arc is burned at the stake for heresy, at age 19. [129] [1786.26]
