  • In Daytona, Florida, the SunBank 24 at Daytona race is held, over two days. Morrison Motorsports enters two 1990 ZR-1 Corvettes.
    • Car No. 92 finishes 4th in GTO class, 12th overall, driven by R.K. Smith, Doc Bundy, Joe Varde, and Andy Pilgrim.
    • Car No. 91 finishes 6th in GTO class, driven by John Heinricy, Don Knowles, Tommy Morrison, Stu Hayner, and Scott Lagasse.

  • Production and sales of ZR-1 Corvettes resumes, following a halt called in December to investigate camshaft failures. The cause had been determined to be incorrectly machined camshafts assembled in engines. [218.11]

  • At the Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association holds its Spring Fling III event, over four days. Jack Boxstrom enters No. 50 Corvette (early 1970s Corvette raced by John Greenwood) with John Greenwood driving. The car has to be withdrawn after three laps due to problems. [214.26] [459.24]

  • The April issue of Car & Driver magazine compares a Corvette ZR-1 to a Porsche Turbo. The Corvette is rated higher. [560.52]

  • In Sebring, Florida, the IMSA 12 Hours of Sebring Camel Grand Prix of Endurance race is held.
    • Finishing 5th in GTO class and 16th overall is the Morrison Motorsports #92 Corvette ZR-1, driven by Andy Pilgrim and R.K. Smith.
    • Placing 9th in GTO class and 33rd overall is the Morrison Motorsports #91 Corvette ZR-1, driven by Stu Hayner, Scott Lagasse, and Don Knowles. The car is not running at the finish due to ignition problems.

  • At Lime Rock Park, the first race of the IMSA Bridgestone Potenza Supercar Championship series is held.
    • Kim Baker finishes second in the MerCruiser Corvette ZR-1, 3.5 seconds behind the winner.
    • In fifth place is Jay Sperry in the Outpost Hunt & Sport Corvette. In twelfth place is Jim Minneker in a second MerCruiser Corvette ZR-1.
    • A Callaway Corvette is raced by Boris Said, but does not complete the race.

    • In fourth place is Kenny Wallace Jr. and Peter Lockhart in a Lobdell-Emery/Dieline Corvette.
    • In eighth place is Kat Teasdale and Luis Sanchez in another Bakeracing Corvette.
    • In tenth place is John Heinricy and Andy Pilgrim in a Corvette. R.K. Smith races in another Lobdell-Emery/Dieline Corvette which loses its brakes and does not finish.

  • The Corvette plant in Bowling Green celebrates its 10th anniversary over four days. About 1800 Corvettes are in attendance. 43,590 people tour the plant.   • At the Road America raceway in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the Chicago Historic Races' 11th International Challenge vintage races are held, over three days. Attending are 323 sports and race cars, and over 25,000 spectators. Results for the Group 3 race:
    • Finishing 3rd in class, 9th overall, is Jack Boxtrom in 1961 283-ci Corvette.
    • Finishing 8th in class, 13th overall, is Robert Nuzzo in 1958 Corvette.
    • Also racing are Thomas Griffin in 1959 Corvette, and Jay Edelston in 1956 Corvette.
