  • At the Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, Ohio, the Quaker State Oil's Longest Day of Nelson '84, 5th annual 24-Hour Endurance Race for Showroom Production Cars is held, over three days. John Greenwood, Dave Heinz, and Rod Millen enter a 1984 Corvette, the first major race for the new model Corvette. They qualify in second place, lead the race after the first hour, and hold the lead for nine hours. Mechanical problems the plague the car. After the first twelve hours, the car has consumed seven sets of brake pads. They finish 24th overall. [406.31] [571.30] [813.21]

  • Werner Meier of Farmington Hills, Michigan, buys the red 1963 Corvette styling car, in run-down and disassembled condition. [219.42]
  • Jerome Shinkay sells the red Corvette Grand Sport 001 roadster to Jim Purvis of Kansas. He decides to restore it to the condition it was in during 1966 racing. [211.48]
