assorted tugs
On the west coast much of the coastal cargo moves on barges. Logs can be towed on log barges or in large rafts known as log booms. West coast boats vary in size from small log towers, river and harbour boats to large ocean-going vessels.
Tugs from several areas
push tugs Towboats have pushed barges and rafts for many years. While we, on the West Coast, often call tugs towboats a towboat is really a pusher tug. This type of tug originated on the rivers but now is often found on the East and West coasts.

Over the years cable ships have been based in Victoria, British Columbia. In recent years cable ships have again operated from the outer wharf.
During WWII many cable ships were lost to enemy action. We have included a couple of letters from my dad's best friend before he died.

The famous stern wheel steam boats that plied rivers and oceans of North America originated on the western rivers ( Mississippi). While there are many coppies one of the few origional boats in operation is the Belle of Louisville. You can see the origional lever type engines in operation and hear the sound of steam coming out of the"scapes".
