Family and Group Volunteering

These days it's not always easy to find time to spend with family members and friends. Especially time that takes you away from everyday demands of work, school, exercise and running a busy household.

That's why more and more people are discovering volunteering with family or friends.

It's a great way to share good times together and to do something new and important for our community.

Volunteer Access Program

By volunteering together you can:

  • Have fun
  • Do something different
  • See each other in a new light
  • Build new skills and confidence
  • Share values such as kindness, teamwork, and respect
  • Learn about your community
  • Encourage a new generation to volunteer
  • Make a real difference in the lives of others

When, where and how often you volunteer together is up to you. We have many opportunities that ask for a one-time commitment of just a few hours. You can volunteer indoors, outdoors or even from home!

Why not help out at a special event? Plant or maintain a community garden? Prepare a hot meal for homeless youth? Host newcomers to Canada? Assist staff to run activities for seniors? Canvass in your neighbourhood? Greet visitors in regional parks? - these are just some of the many opportunities available.

Tips for Choosing a Volunteer Experience with Family or Friends

  1. Decide which friends and/or relations will volunteer together
  2. Discuss why you want to volunteer together
  3. Choose the days of the week and times that are best for your group
  4. Think about what kinds of organizations/causes you want to support (e.g., seniors, youth, the environment, multicultural, health, or emergency services)
  5. View opportunities in our database or call us at 386-2269 to set up an appointment with a Volunteering Advisor
