Travellers
unfamiliar with our area often use the term Victoria Island
when referring to Vancouver Island. Victoria is actually
a city on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Victoria
is the capital city of British Columbia, Canada and Greater
Victoria is comprised of 13 municipalities, all of which
are located on southern Vancouver Island. Vancouver Island
is often confused with the city of Vancouver, which is
situated on the BC mainland about 1 hour and 50 minutes
by ferry from Victoria. Visitors who search for this area
often locate information about Victoria, Vancouver and
Whistler, three of the primary tourist locals in British
Columbia. Victoria is the most beautiful of these three
areas. It is a small city rich in history and abound with
natural beauty. People frequently ask what they should
see and do with the three days they have to visit. I tell
them, three days is not enough. When you come, you will
find that out. There is so much to see and do in this
region, please plan to stay longer so you will not be
disappointed. If it is Vancouver Island you want to see,
a couple of weeks will be a good start.Population:
Vancouver Island (750,000), Greater Victoria (340,000)
- approximate and growing.Location:
Vancouver Island is located 90 minutes by ferry off the
city of Vancouver on the west coast of British Columbia,
Canada. Victoria is located at the southern tip of Vancouver
Island. The distance by car between Victoria in the south
and Port Hardy in the north is 301 miles (502 kilometres).
