The Saanich Peninsula is a stretch of land that extends about 17 miles to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, where BC Ferries travel to the Gulf Islands and to Vancouver, British Columbia. There's much to do and see here!
This area contains the communities of: North Saanich, Central Saanich, Brentwood Bay, and Sidney. The Victoria Airport, Butchart Gardens, and Butterfly Gardens are all in this vicinity. You'll also find Elk and Beaver Lake here - favourite swimming spots in the summer.
The town of Sidney BC, called Sidney by the Sea by locals, is only 3 miles from the Ferry Terminal at Swartz Bay, and about a 20 minute drive from Victoria. It's a quaint little town with lots of unique shops. It has a very popular Street Market on Thursday evenings during the summer.
This is also the main agricultural area of Vancouver Island's Southern tip. You'll find a plethora of fruit and vegetable stands to visit. Make sure you spend time here while visiting Victoria!
