This
charming "Village by the Sea", located on the peninsula that
forms the Comox Harbour, was originally settled by the Salish people.
It is now home to almost 12,000 residents. The name Comox is derived from
the Indian word for "Land of Plenty", which is an apt description
for this town and the Valley. You will find everything close by, including
the marinas, golf course, parks, beaches, shopping, hospital, 19 Wing
Comox and the Air Force Museum. Comox is also home to unique annual events
such as Nautical Days and the Filberg Festival |
The largest of the three municipalities, with a population of almost 20,000, Courtenay will greet you as you travel north/south on the Oceanside Route Highway 19A. It is a commercial and service centre, with an attractive downtown shopping district, malls, and delightful boutiques. The Courtenay River with its marina and airpark, and the Puntledge River with its parks and fish hatchery, run through the city. The Courtenay Museum is home of an 80 million year old elasmosaur and an impressive display of other fossils, which have made it the first stop on the Great Canadian Fossil Trail. |
