Customs and Immigration All passengers are subject to inspection when crossing into Canada and when returning to the USA. All citizens of the United States, of any age, must carry proof of citizenship. Birth Certificate, voters registration card, drivers license student card and/or passport. If traveling with other people’s children or as a single parent you should have proof of custody or a parental note of permission and a parental contact number. Residents with permanent U.S. Alien status must carry their alien registration card. Passengers from other countries require a passport and in some cases a visa. To be admissible to Canada, visitors must not have a criminal record. This may include any convictions for DUI. For more information contact Canada Customs at 250-363-3531 Purchases in Canada U.S. Citizens returning from Canada less than 24 hours, may bring back merchandise for their use up to a value of $200 duty free, subject to limitations on liquor, cigarettes and cigars. This exemption is per person and may not be grouped together with others. For those returning after 48 hours a $400 exemption per person is applicable, which may be grouped together with other family members. Duty is applied to amounts exceeding allowable limits. Duty Free Duty free goods and currency exchange are available at Northwest Duty Free located at the Port Angeles Ferry Dock.
