Triplett, Frank. edited by Joseph Snell. The Life, Times and Treacherous Death of Jesse James. New York, New York. Promontory Press, 1970.
Frank Triplett compiled his original work, which was on the market within seven weeks of Jesse James' death. Originally, Triplett relied on interviews with Zee and Zerelda. After further thought, they reneged on the agreement. (One should note that Frank was still living. There is no statute of limitations on murder.) Later, the ladies sued for royalties and they won their suit for $942.00.
Triplett's book is written in the favorable light toward Jesse James. Triplett interviewed many first persons at the time, all of which came with their own view on Jesse.
The historical footnotes by Joseph Snell of the Kansas State Historical Society brings the book full circle to balance the story. Much of the footnotes refer to Dr. Settle's book.
The story of the original publication is as interesting as any Jesse story in itself.
