In about 1992, the City of Stillwater replaced all the sewer lines and electrical cables along Main Street, digging down from four to eight feet. The excavation extended into the old Stillwater Prison site, where some mangled iron bars from the old prison were uncovered. The bars which could be saved were given to the Washington County Historical Society. These bars were in bad repair, but very interesting. One of our volunteers cut some of the bars into 1-foot lengths, and mounted them with a nice brass plate which reads "Iron Bar from Old Stillwater Prison Site".
The Washington County Historical Society is selling these for $45 each (plus $5 shipping) as a fundraiser for a new roof for the Warden's House Museum. Now is YOUR chance to own a piece of history. Send your order to:
