Come Ride With Us

Our fifth annual James-Younger Gang Conference will be held October 8th through October 10th at the Clarion Hotel in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Past Gang president and newsletter editor Phillip Steele and his wife Charlotte reside in nearby Springdale and will be hosting our conference. A special rate of $50.00 per night (single/double) has been worked out for the Gang, but we suggest reservations be made early because the University of Arkansas Razorbacks and several other colleges hold athletic events in October.

Fayetteville is located in Northwest Arkansas on US Highway 71, or it can also be reached by following Highway 412 about 90 miles due east of Tulsa, Oklahoma, via the Cherokee Turnpike. Fayetteville is served by American Eagle and Delta Express through Dallas, St. Louis, and Kansas City. The Clarion Hotel shuttles run between the hotel and the airport, or car rentals are available in Tulsa should such be more convenient.

Not only is Northwest Arkansas beautiful in October, there are numerous James-Younger Gang-related locations in the region that will offer a continuance of the hands-on history programs we have had in the past.

  • Fayetteville, Pea Ridge, Prairie Grove, Cane Hill, and other Civil War battlefields are near the confrence site.
  • Samuel family descendants and the home of Dr. Samuel's parents will be visited during our confrence.
  • The home of Jesse and Frank James' only sister Susan and her husband Allen Parmer is in Cane Hill, and dozens of their descendants in the region will make this confrence an educational one as well as a major James-Younger family reunion.

    Keep in mind you may want to extend your stay in the Ozarks and take advantage of the region's many fall festivals, Branson or Mountain View country music shows, numerous heritage museums, historic Dickson and Washington Streets in Fayetteville, Victorian Eureka Springs, wonderful fishing in Beaver or Table Rock Lakes, or the Fayetteville to Fort Smith train rides -- just to name a few of the many interesting places to visit in the immediate area.

    As those of you who have experienced our past Gang confrences know, we always have a great time. We need each of you here to help make '98 another great one, so make your plans now! The program committe plans to keep the registration fees as low as possible, but the fees cannot be announced until final costs are in, then we will advise you in a special mailing or in our summer newsletter.

    We expect all of you to be in Northwest Arkansas in October!
