My Blogs, photos and other digital ephemera are spread across the web but it all comes together right here.
Ephemeral Thoughts is my blog about ephemera and vintage photographs. I’ve been a collector for most of my life and although my tastes have changed over the years I still enjoy the hunt for interesting old items. Better still is the research I get to do on every piece.
On Active Service is a website dedicated to Canadian and British soldiers of the First World War. It began as a tribute to my relatives who served however very few of their stories and photos have survived, and so I've attempted to better understand this traumatic episode of their lives through the letters, postcards and ephemera of others.
End to End in 2010 is the blog of my 1200-mile walk from Land's End to John O'Groats. Although the walk is over I continue to blog about anything and everything related to walking in the UK (and a few things that aren't).
Talkin' bout my Generations is my family history blog. It allows me to share my research and connect with others who may be researching the same individual or family. The blog lets me organize and present my research as I collect it. I also maintain a tree on Ancestry.ca.
@jake_a_loo is my Twitter name. I tweet about several subjects including the First World War, Family History and Local History (especially on items I pin to Historypin.com). Click on my Twitter name and the click the "Follow+" button to follow me.
Fort Victoria is my profile name on Historypin.com, a fantastic new website where people from different generations and backgrounds can share photos and build stories about their communities. I regularly pin early photos and stories of Victoria, BC.
I published my first book on Blurb.com in early 2011. Hardcover, softcover and e-book version of End to End in 2010 are available for sale in my Blurb bookstore.
