St. Mary's has been a worshipping community in Metchosin since 1851.
Christian community is a by-product of a living faith that draws us together.
From Scripture we learn that the church is intended to function as a community
knit together at a deep level. St. Paul uses the metaphor of a body to illustrate
his understanding of Christian community. Each person is like a part of the
body - everyone valued and an integral part of the whole, with the Lord Jesus
as the head of the body.
St. Mary's is a place where all are welcome and there is a strong sense
of belonging. It is a place where you can experience joy and hope and God's
enduring love; a place where you can receive practical, biblical guidance for
living; a place where we support one another through the challenges of life
and where we grow together in understanding our call to mission and ministry.
We are grateful to be a place of worship that transcends generational barriers.
In this transitional world where families are often fragmented, it is within
the church community that the generations come together. I think this is a wonderful
gift to both young and elderly as we learn much from one another. At St. Mary's
we have that healthy mix of generations. We offer both traditional and contemporary
worship styles as we celebrate the diversity of ages and backgrounds in our community.
Please know that we welcome your visit and pray that you too will find a
place of authentic Christian community here.
In His Service,
Greetings in the name of Christ.
I am glad you stopped by our web site. My name is Andrew Hewlett and I am part of the
leadership team of St. Mary's Anglican Church in Metchosin. I am married to Lucy and we
have two wonderful children Judith(15) and Jonathon(13). We've enjoyed being part of this
church family for almost six years and we are very excited about what God is doing in our midst.
Although our own denomination is going through tumultuous times we are blessed to be a part of a
Christian Community that has not lost its vision for proclaiming the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
Throughout biblical history it was often in times of upheaval and crisis when people turned to God and
discovered anew His faithfulness and life-giving power. I'm convinced that we are living in such a time
now and that we are being called again to rediscover our full birthright as sons and daughters of the
living God! This is so much more than "doing church". At this point in the life of St. Mary's we sense
that God is calling us to deeper awareness of His love, a stronger commitment to service and growing
awareness that God can and will do more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20 My prayer is that
you will "get on board" and be a part of what God is doing in our midst.
Whether you are a "seeker" or a committed Christian, please join us for worship or feel free to contact me
through the church office at (250) 508 6232. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.
Blessings, Rev. Andrew Hewlett (B.A. M.Div.)
