The Spiritualists' National Union (SNU) was incorporated by the Province of Ontario on 27 April 1929, and the Spiritualists' National Union of Canada, headquartered at Toronto, was incorporated by the Government of Canada on the same date.  The SNU of Canada was originally affiliated with the SNU of Great Britain.  In 1974, the SNU of Canada amalgamated with the remaining churches of the National Spiritualist Association of Canada, Inc., which had been incorporated by the Government of Canada on 5 July 1928.  In 1978, the SNU of Canada changed its name to Spiritualist Church of Canada (SCC).

The Spiritualist Church of Canada is a national parent body for Canadian Spiritualist organizations.  As of May 2010, the SCC had fourteen affiliated churches or centres: one each in Burlington (SCC head office), Barrie Clinton, Cambridge, Hamilton, Orillia, and Toronto, Ontario; one each in Nanaimo and Victoria, British Columbia; two in Calgary, Alberta; two in Winnipeg, Manitoba; and one in Boucherville, Quebec.

The SCC ordains the ministers who serve in affiliated churches.

The SCC has an educational and accreditation program through which it trains ministerial candidates for ordination.  SCC ministers registered in accordance with provincial legislation are recognized to perform marriages within Ontario and British Columbia.

The Spiritualist Church of Canada is a registered charitable organization (registration number:  89201 5249 RR0001).
