Grant Smalley has worked as an organbuilder since 1966, eleven years with Gabriel Kney in London ON, primarily building tracker action organs and installing them throughout Canada and the USA. During the latter eight of those years, he assumed Kney's tuning and maintenance business in addition to his organbuilding duties. He returned to Victoria BC in 1980, and in 1984 set up his own shop and bought out the organ maintenance business of Hugo Spilker.
Grant Smalley is a member of the American Institute of Organbuilders, and of the Vancouver Island Centre, Royal Canadian College of Organists. As a member of the Victoria Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Grant lends his woodworking skills to the design and construction of sets, and takes chorus and lead roles in productions.
