RIDE THE STORM

dividerr

The windsock lies on its side
Tonight.
A sure sign a storm is brewing.
I tap the barometer face
And the falling needle confirms
The atmosphere's discomfort.

I venture into the darkness
To assure myself
The firewood will remain dry
And the boat will not venture
Off on its own adventure.

I wish it were as easy
To assure myself
That you would ride out
The current storm
Dry and secure.
But I am no great knight or magician
Who can slay this demon;
Only a man whose shield
Is love and understanding.
I can but hold you tight
As the storm-whipped sea
Sends waves breaking against
Your soul.

With strength I may keep you
From the bruising rocks
But only when you are in
My harbour
And not out to sea.

I too often find you
Out at sea
Alone
Where the currents are
Often contrary to your sailing
Into my harbour.

I have no way to
Bring you back
Only the beacon of my love light
Calling you home.
Hoping that, when again
You are within hailing distance,
You report:
"All is well."

The storm winds gust again
Driving the rain, stinging
Against my face
As I pace the dock
Looking for you
Coming home to me.

Ride the storm, my love
Ride the storm.
Better days are ahead.
Ride the storm.
