Welcome to The Weather Doctor1 October 2006Our Ninth Year On-LineHello Friends and Weather Buffs! The Weather Doctor's ninth year on-line is drawing to a close. The site has enjoyed a regular readership and many one-time visitors looking to answer their weather questions. At the end of 2004, I had the opportunity to play around on the Web and found The Weather Doctor linked from sites of all sorts around the world. This year has been quite eventful for me. I picked up and moved out of Victoria, British Columbia going from sea to sky to another BC V community, Valemount. The small town sits within the Rocky Mountain Trench with the Rockies to the east and the Columbia Mountains to the west. So far I have been treated to a number of good thunderstorms, at least by Pacific Northwest standards; one knocked out power for 24 hours. I moved here to be nearer my daughter and family. I have three grandsons who have kept me busy over the summer. Each has his own interests. Now that I am pretty well settled. I have more time to work on my newest passion: painting oils mostly but also acrylics, watercolors and pastels. I have placed my favorites on a new webpage Keith C. Heidorn's Art Gallery. I hope you will visit and see the product of my work. Most are available for sale, if you are interested, please drop me an email. A few, along with several of my photographs, are available as note cards, posters, etc. from The Weather Doctor's Nature Gallery at Zazzle.com. I have two books published now. available from Fifth House Ltd out of Calgary. The BC Weather Book: From the Sunshine Coast to Storm Mountain came out last fall and is available in British Columbia at many bookstores and through Amazon.ca, the Canadian arm of Amazon.com. [Note, they ship to the US and other countries, and the listed price is in Canadian dollars which is now about 90 cents US.] My most recent book And Now...The Weather, also published by Fifth House, Ltd, was released last year (September 2005) across Canada and should be in the US later this year. Again, it can be ordered from Amazon.ca.
Since its beginnings, The Weather Doctor has had visitors from all over the world. If you get a chance, drop me an email and let me know where you are from, what you think of the site, and what you would like to see covered. From the mail I have received, many of you are regular visitors and enjoy the site. For a taste of some of the comments from my readership and those who link to my site, go to What They Are Saying About The Weather Doctor.
As always, I invite teachers and parents involved with home schooling to use the materials posted herein as part of your curriculum. I see many links to us from websites aiding the education process, both home schooling and community schools. Those desiring to use any of the material in the classroom may do so with the permission of The Weather Doctor. But please, include the copyright information with any downloading of the information, either to your local computer site or to hardcopy. I give the material freely to educators, but if you can spare a donation to keep this site expanding and alive, I would greatly appreciate it as I have no major source of regular income. (For information on donating to keep this site expanding, please click on "Support Us" above.) And kids, I will be happy to answer your questions when I can, but I am not here to do your homework. And remember to include a valid email address. I get several questions a year which I take the time to answer but are returned as invalid email addresses. So if you sent a question and I did not answer, the reason is likely your email address was not correct (or some other glich in the email system). I recently had such a problem, but I only find out after I had done the research (nearly an hour) to answer the question. If you are looking for books on weather, check out our Reviews section and visit the Weather Doctor Bookstore, where you can order weather books through Amazon.com. I have added a link to several other sites such as home and garden shops where you can find an assortment of wind chimes, weather vanes and weather instruments.
We hope you will come back often and tell your friends. Bookmark our title page and we will keep you informed of the latest additions in the What's New section. And take a moment to visit one of our affiliates and shopping sites. They provide places where you can buy weather-related books, instruments and fun things such as windchimes and windsocks.
