The Rocky Point Bird Observatory (RPBO) operates on Department of National Defence (DND) Land. Fire hazard is a major concern of DND at Rocky Point and all staff and volunteers must be cognizant of their legitimate concerns. This is especially true during the banding season since the earlier part of the season from mid-July to mid-August coincides with driest part of the year on Southern Vancouver Island.
Common sense is the best safeguard against human induced fire hazards. To minimize hazards further a no-smoking policy has been enacted and a no open flame policy has been instituted.
Two stations will be set up with fire fighting equipment, one
at the trailer and one at the banding shack.
The equipment at each location will consist of the following:
A copy of this protocol will be posted at the banding shack
and at the trailer.
