Career Groups and Organizations
Several organizations maintain discussion groups, Listservs, gopher sites or WEB sites that include topics associated with helping services and career counselling or career issues for specific target groups or problems.

Gaining access to a discussion group normally requires submitting a request to the moderator or list manager of the group to become part of the group. Access is normally free.

When you sign on to the discussion, you can ask questions, get suggestions from others or just tune in to the discussion of the topics (sometimes called "lurking"). Connecting to a WEB site will provide more detailed information about the services provided by that resource. In most cases you will be able to communicate with experts in that area. Gopher sites will allow you to access various documents and bring them back to your own computer.

The International Counselor Network (ICN): This professional organization includes approximately 900 members from around the world. Members provide support, suggestions, and information - a discussion group;
The Canadian Guidance and Counselling Association (CGCA) A professional organization with members in every province in Canada - a discussion group;
The Ontario School Counsellors Association (OSCA) - a WEB site;
The Ontario Peer Helpers Association (OPHA) This organization is part of OSCA and is dedicated to supporting and enhancing peer helping throughout Ontario schools. The site provides a list of directors, the group's mission, and a description of services - a WEB site;
Therapy Online A pioneering Canadian WEB site that provides caring for people via online professional therapists, includes a self-test to determine type of services needed;
Who's Who in Mental Health Search for mental health practitioners who have services listed on the internet;
LISTS: Listservs of Interest to Counselors - a gopher site;
Counselornet A place to search for counsellor resources - a gopher site;
Counselor Network Documents: Documents about the counseling profession - a gopher site;
Peer Career Support Online Examination of issues, expert suggestions, networking, and program development assistance for peer career programs - a discussion group;
AIDS Information - gopher site;
American Educational Research Association-E (AERA-E) - a discussion group;
American Psychological Association - a WEB site;
American Association of Applied and Preventive Psychology (AAAPP) - a discussion group
Counselor Educators and Supervisors Network (CESNET-L) - a discussion group
Dignity - a discussion group;
Gay/Lesbian/Bi Network - a discussion and support group;
Graduate Student Services - information;
Group Work Specialists LISTSERV - a discussion group;
InterPsych - a discussion group;
Intimate Violence a discussion group and resource;
The Safety Net Resources on domestic violence - a WEB site;
Student Development (STU-DEV) an information resource;
VOCSERVE and VOCNET A web site with a variety of articles, resources, and announcements about work and school-to-work transitions;
Community Outreach Health Information System A comprehensive resource on AIDS/HIV, alcohol and substance abuse, cancer, cardiovascular disease, environmental hazards, infectious diseases, nutrition, partner violence, STDs, smoking and tobacco abuse, teen pregnancy, maternal and neonatal health;
The SchoolNet-UK Web Site contains a collection of United Kingdom school web pages and e-mail addresses as well as resources sorted by subject area for teachers and students;
The People's Network A network marketing organization dedicated to empowering self help for individuals and families;
