JOIN THE PEER RESOURCES NETWORK
Big Changes for Better Service
WHAT IS
Publication and distribution of the Journal as well as research, consultation, and networking services have relied on donations, grants, and benefactors. While this has been successful for delivering timely and need-based services to users, it has created administrative nightmares for our staff (and our bank manager). The expenses associated with producing quality materials, practical services, and up-to-date resources (and the difficulty of gaining benefactors!) requires that we find a new way to support the services we provide.
We have explored several possibilities to maintain services, including charging a subscription fee for the Journal, selling advertising space in each issue, and making the Journal available in the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes coupon series. These options were intriguing, but not very realistic. What did seem viable was charging an annual fee for a package of services, including subscriptions to our publications. In this way persons who presently receive the Peer Counsellor Journal and our mentor publications will actually gain additonal services and benefits.
Our solution, to ask you to join the Peer Resources Network, is partly based on the cost savings and knowledge opportunities provided by technology. We can now provide services more efficiently using computers, modems, fax machines, and toll-free telephone lines. In addition to sending out our publications by mail, we can distribute materials and resources through the internet, provide on-line consultation through e-mail, and distribute materials through the World-Wide Web. If you do not presently use e-mail and the internet, you will still receive all the services and materials through both print and toll-free support.
We hope you will join with us in this effort to support the services and materials that we provide to strengthen peer and mentor programs.
