In 1982 Poor Richard's Books moved into its present location. The house is known as The Baker House and was built c. 1893.
Some of the unique features of the house include:
One of the few brick houses built in Victoria
brick rosettes built into the exterior design of the building
the original black glass doorknobs throughout the house
the original hinges and hardware on the front door
pulley system from kitchen window down to the garden
the original bathtub
the bathroom sink came from the Empress Hotel, Victoria, BC
"secret" garden with old fruit trees and resident squirrel
When in Victoria, please drop in and enjoy the character of one of Victoria's oldest homes.
THE CATSThe real masters are the cats. Their names are JR, Kiki La Douce and Finnbar Magnificat.
Readers of our published catalogue, over the years, have seen what a tiresome job these three have done in selecting very special items for our customers. They have been tireless in sniffing out those wonderful treasures.
However, they do often maintain that we humans tend to get underfoot sometimes. But they do indeed demand the best and we have been instructed to carry this quality to our customers.
