In order to make the sale of a compact filtration system as easy as possible, Hozelock Cyprio sell four sizes of Ecoclear compact filtration kits. Each Ecoclear is a complete filtration system suitable for a specific size of pond and contains a Cyprio Titan solids handling pump and a Cyprio Bioforce UVC pressurized filter.

Both
pump and filter come with stepped hosetails that allow attachment of 3/4",
1", 1-1/4", and 1-1/2" inside diameter tubing. No additional adapters are
required.
*** Please check the pump performance charts and max. lift figures to make sure that the system you are purchasing fits your application. The Cyprio Titan pump that is included with each pump & filter package has been selected to supply the Bioforce UVC pond filter with the perfect amount of water when installed with a 3 to 5 foot head before the filter (depending on the Ecoclear system selected). This type of installation is suitable for a longer hose run before the filter or for installing the filter at the top of a waterfall. The
Cyprio Titan 550 pump supplied with the Ecoclear 500 filtration package
delivers 550 GPH max. at a zero foot head. If the Bioforce 500 UVC pond
filter is installed at ground level adjacent to the pond, the flow rate
supplied by the pump will be much higher than the 250 GPH that the filter
is designed for. In this case, an inline flow adjuster (ball
valve) is required to regulate the flow down to the maximum that the
filter can handle.
However,
if you install the Bioforce UVC filter at the top of a waterfall or have
a long tubing run before the filter, the pump's flow rate decreases accordingly.
At a 3 foot head before the filter, for example (= 2 ft. vertical lift
from pond surface level to the filter + 10 ft. of tubing), the flow rate
of the Titan 550 pump drops down to 300 GPH (please
see Titan 550 pump performance chart for details) which is close to
the 250 GPH that the Bioforce 500 UVC filter is designed for.
At a 5 foot head before the filter (= 4 ft. vertical lift from pond surface level to the filter + 10 ft. of tubing), the flow rate of the Titan 1450 pump supplied with the Ecoclear 2000 filtration package equals 1000 GPH (please see Titan 1450 pump performance chart for details) which makes it perfect for this particular installation. At only a 3 foot head before the filter (= 2 ft. vertical lift from pond surface level to the filter + 10 ft. of tubing), the flow rate of the Titan 1450 pump equals 1200 GPH (please see Titan 1450 pump performance chart for details) which is too high. This installation requires an inline flow adjuster (ball valve) to regulate the flow down to the maximum 1000 GPH that the Bioforce 2000 UVC filter supplied with this package can handle.
If
the lift up to the top of your waterfall/filter intake is too high or you
have too long a tubing run before the filter, the pump's flow rate may
decrease too much. Using the Ecoclear 2000 package and a 7 foot head before
the filter as an example (= 5 ft. vertical lift from pond surface level
to the filter + 20 ft. of tubing), the flow rate of the Titan 1450 pump
supplied with this package drops down to 750 GPH (please
see Titan 1450 pump performance chart for details). This in turn affects
the performance of the entire system, and the Ecoclear 2000 filtration
package is thus no longer suitable for a 2000 gallon goldfish pond as shown
in the chart.
The
same applies to a long tubing run and additional lift after the filter.
Assuming you have a 5 foot head before the filter (same as Example 2 above)
and a resulting 1000 GPH flow rate going into the filter (so far so good)
but an additional 4 foot lift after the filter, the total head increases
to 9 feet which results in a decreased flow rate of 500 GPH (please
see Titan 1450 pump performance chart for details). This installation
is also not suitable for a 2000 GPH goldfish pond.
