All talks in 2011/2012 are held on Thursdays at the Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth, Durley Chine Road, on afternoons and evenings (see below).

Discovering Gems by Cally Oldershaw
Cally Oldershaw is a gemologist with an international reputation and is a former Curator of Gemstones at the Natural History Museum in London.
She is the author of an illustrated book on Gemstones of the World.

Behind the Scenes at Abbotsbury Swannery by David Wheeler
David Wheeler, Head Swanherd at Abbotsbury, will give us an overall look at the Swannery from the days of the Benedictine Monks.

Diplomatic Indiscretions by Michael Howell, CMG, OBE
If you have ever wondered how International Diplomacy really works,
this is for you. But you may be in for a surprise!

Lady of the Manor by Norma Kent
Norma Kent will keep us thoroughly entertained and informed with anecdotes of earlier times. We will probably come away envying – or not – the lifestyle of Lady Charlotte and entourage.

Exploring the Hampshire Avon by John Combes
John Combes’ talk is illustrated with own photographs. We will be travelling
along the Avon river valley from Mudeford to its source near Pewsey, on the
way looking at buildings, flowers, birds and mammals of interest.

Lyrical La Mortella by Rosemary Legrand
Rosemary Legrand has travelled extensively to gardens in many parts of the
world and in her talk she will take us to the Italian Island garden of
Sir William and Lady Walton and gardens of Capri and Pompeii.

The Life of Beatrix Potter by Pamela Wright
Pamela Wright is a lecturer and calligrapher for the National Trust and a member of the Association of Art Historians.
She will share with us the time when Beatrix Potter was a farmer in the
Lake District, her many gifts to the Trust and her children’s books.
Thursday March 8th at 2.15 p.m.
Dorchester – Plenty to Cry by Alistair Chisholm
Alistair Chisholm will articulate loud and clear: Oyez! Oyez! Oyez!, when he comes to talk to us, resplendent in his Town Crier’s regalia. But as well as the role of town crier he will also intrigue us with many special tales.

Annual General Meeting
After the official business John Flashman,
Chairman of the Outings and Holidays Committee, will highlight for us
the outings and holidays planned for the 2012-season. Then time to
sharpen the pencils and wits to enjoy a specially prepared Bournemouth
and Poole National Trust Trivia.
