continuing Director, Island Loss Clinic, a group of three
clinical psychologists and a clinical social worker who provide
psychotherapy and crisis management in the areas of trauma, grief and
loss. Contracts include provision of Psychological Trauma
Response Team for community disasters on Vancouver Island through
Mental Health Services, individual and group psychotherapy for
traumatically brain-injured individuals through the Provincial Brain
Injury Programme and debriefing for volunteers through the Greater
Victoria Victim Services.. Clinic therapists also provide
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Trauma Recovery to various
government and private agencies and businesses.
- 1978
continuing. Individual and group psychotherapy in the areas of
trauma, grief and loss with adults and children. Since 1988
accepted as Expert Witness in the B.C. Supreme Court.
- 1978
continuing. Lecturer and workshop facilitator for professional
and lay helpers and the general public. Conducts 90-100 lectures and
workshops a year. Currently on North America lecture tour.

(part-time) Grief Consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital for
Children. Provided crisis intervention for bereaved parents
nights and weekends when there were no social work staff at the acute
care hospitals. Provided ongoing individual, family and

counselling for bereaved parents. Provided consultation to staff
around loss issues for inpatients.
- 1979-1981 Coordinator
of the Victoria Association for the Care of the Dying. (4
days per week) V.A.C.D. provided trained volunteers for grieving and
dying individuals. Due to its success, the Provincial Government
provided initial grants to start Hospice Victoria and Hospice
Vancouver. V.A.C.D. became the volunteer component of Hospice
Victoria

2001. National Canadian lecture tour to raise public awareness
about The Compassionate Friends, a world-wide self-help organization
for bereaved parents.

100 lectures across Canada to benefit non-profit groups such as
Alzheimer, Hospice, Head Injury Societies and Federal prisons based on
book "A Path Through Loss"

Committee member organizing 2 free talks per month by diverse speakers
in the area of spirituality sponsored by Franciscan Friary,
Victoria

Pacific Animal Therapy Society member with two therapy dogs who visit
nursing homes and hospitals. Also use therapy dogs in my
psychotherapy practice.

continuing Free talks and workshops most months for non-profit groups,
such as parents of preschoolers and chronic illness groups.

Brinton, created and financed Victoria's Helper Dogs Calendar to
benefit P.A.T.S. and S.P.C.A. The calendar had full colour
photographs and bios of dogs who help people, including police, rescue,
hospital, and seeing eye dogs.

Grandtime programmes for groups of babies and toddlers to visit weekly
in Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion (extended care), Oak Bay Lodge and Edmonton
General Hospital (psychogeriatric unit). These programmes are
still in operation.
