Wholistic Counselling
The aim of Wholistic Counselling is to raise
awareness of the many different aspects within
each person and to help the client to find and
own his or her power so that we can live this
life in this body to the fullest and connected
to ourselves, each other, the earth and the invisible
realms.
We live in a much out of balance society and
even though we live in the lands of plenty, our
souls are so often starving for the deep needs
of belonging, feeling safe, accepted, acknowledged
and whenever possible loved unconditionally...
warts and all. Some people are born with the
innate knowing of what they need to do in this
life time and in this body to heal and balance
themselves with the rest of the universe, while
for others professional help can point them in
the right direction. There are many paths into
this centre of our being, but this is a journey
we’re all asked to take if we want our
species to continue living on the only home planet
we have.
How things came to be that way
Let’s start with the basics: our lives
are based on our experiences and they leave a
feeling in the heart. We tell ourselves stories
how life is meant to be lived depending on these
stories. If we grew up in a family that mostly
welcomed us and created safety for us while taking
responsibility for their experiences and taught
us to do the same with ours we were very lucky
and the stories we tell ourselves are about safety,
interconnectedness and personal power. If we
experienced judgement, overbearing, control and
other victimizing attitudes, if we were barely
ever good enough, if we were not allowed to express
our needs without feeling shamed, if learned
to follow someone else’s expectations of
what we are meant to do and who we are meant
to be, well, our stories about life tell about
these painful experiences and leave deep wounds
in our hearts and deep holes in our souls. Our
hearts and souls send us messages that all is
not good inside, and so some of us cover up the
pain by buying stuff or swallowing pills, but
this only covers up the root cause and we continue
to repeat these unconscious experiences over
and over again... depression, anxiety, controlling,
victimizing... from child to adult, and of course
from parent to child... until someone breaks
the vicious cycle, listens inside and starts
to explore his or her stories and the experiences
attached to these stories.
Here’s an example how a story comes into
being: Dad sits in the living room, reading the
paper while mom prepares supper. The little 1 ½ year
old girl comes in and dad asks her to bring him
a glass of water. Eagerly she runs to mom who
fills a glass and gives it to her. With full
concentration she walks toward daddy, but trips
and spills the water. If dad is aware and present
he gets up, helps the girl clean up and gives
her a hug before she tries again. If dad is mentally
absent or has never accepted anything but perfection,
he may yell at her “you’re so clumsy,
you’re just not good for anything... you
can’t even carry a glass of water without
spilling it.” Since this is not only a
very painful experience for this girl but also
an assault on her soul and her self image, she
turns this experience into a story, the story
that she’s not good for anything, and until
she sees the lie in this story she will live
by it and be clumsy and not good for anything...
a self fulfilling prophecy that creates pain,
suffering, disconnection, and depression. All
this is passed down through the generations and
the pain increases until someone dares to look
at it and heal, or change it.

Tools
During a Wholistic counselling session Marianne
uses many different tools to sidestep the stories
and to find the experience that caused the story.
People are wounded in the heart, and so the healing
must start in the heart too. Most people do not
need to re-experience the original pain, and
realizing that they were told a lie often brings
tremendous relief, however it takes time to heal
a life based on a dysfunctional premise and there
are usually other feelings surfacing that need
to be acknowledged before they are willing to
be let go of.
Marianne uses regular counselling, guided visualisations,
energy medicine tools like EFT (link), creative
expression, like art, sound, movement, dream
exploration and anything else that helps the
client to go beyond the stories into the experience
and then to create a new story that brings a
deeper connection to the soul.
If clients are willing to engage in energy healing
(link) the process can be faster, however, since
we are dealing with soul, which is on soul time,
it still is a process that can’t be rushed.
Also, unless clients learn to take responsibility
for their own experiences, stories and well being,
healing will be slow, no matter what tools are
being used.

Results
People often experience a deeper sense of peace
and feeling more and more at home in their bodies.
Others – friends, family, co-workers, bosses
- are less and less in charge of their lives
as they discover more and more who they are and
what their gifts and challenges are. Through
bringing the past into consciousness it loses
its power over the people on a healing path and
one by one the past can be turned into major
gifts to create a healthier and more balanced
society.
Again, all this takes time, but in Marianne’s
experience, the moment people start to experience
the beauty of healing and balance they get kind
of hooked and will not go back to the old and
painful ways, but explore more and more how to
own their own power.
And most of all, people in touch with their soul
are automatically in touch with the soul of the
earth and the universe... is there anything more
important to do in these challenging times?
