Personal computer history:

  • 1984 - Atari announces it will soon introduce new personal computers, 8-bit to 32-bit systems, to be introduced in January.
  • 1991 - Intel announces a temporary halt to production of the 50 MHz 486DX processor, due to problems in manufacturing and testing.
  • 1995 - In the first four days of its release, one million copies of Windows 95 have been sold.
  • 1998 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the 350 MHz K6-2 processor. Price is US$317 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2001 - Intel releases the 1.9 GHz and 2.0 GHz Pentium 4 processors. Prices are US$375 and US$562 respectively in quantities of 1000.
  • 2007 - Acer of Taiwan announces it will buy Gateway of the USA for US$710 million.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1924 - Disney ships the eighth Alice Comedy film, Alice Gets in Dutch, to M.J. Winkler Productions.
  • 1931 - The Silly Symphony film Egyptian Melodies is released to theaters.
  • 1934 - Fifteen months after the release of the short film Three Little Pigs, the film has grossed US$150,000.
  • 1943 - The animated short film Reason and Emotion is released to theaters.
  • 1948 - The Donald Duck film Inferior Decorator is released.
  • 1955 - The Mickey Mouse Club Theater opens in Fantasyland at Disneyland. The theater plays Disney cartoon short films on several small screens.
  • 1964 - Buena Vista premieres Disney's live-action and animated film Mary Poppins at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The film is based on the Mary Poppins books by P.L. Travers. The film cost US$5.175 million to produce, the most spent on a Disney film.
  • 1988 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film A Friendship in Vienna.
  • 1992 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show. A homeless man says he owned Mickey Mouse Massage Parlours, then Disney shut him down.
  • 1993 - Disney releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Father Hood to theaters in the US.
  • 1995 - The Aladdin's Royal Caravan parade at Disney-MGM Studios in Walt Disney World ends.
  • 1999 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film The 13th Warrior to theaters in the USA.
  • 2004 - In Itasca, Illinois, over three days, a reunion is held of six original Mouseketeer actors of the Mickey Mouse Club. A question and answer session is held with Bill Farmer (voice of Goofy) and Tony Anselmo (voice of Donald Duck).

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1978 - At the Mid-Ohio raceway in Lexington, Ohio, an IMSA 250-mile race is held.
    • Finishing 5th in GTX class and 5th overall is the #99 Corvette driven by Phil Currin.
    • Finishing 9th in GTX class and 13th overall is the #68 Corvette driven by Rick Hay and Mike Brockman.
    • Placing 8th in GTO class and 26th overall is the #14 Corvette driven by Jerry Lancaster and John Luczyk.
    • Placing 12th in GTO class and 42nd overall is the #39 Corvette driven by Skip DeAscentis and Larry Trotter.

  • 1989 - The three-day Corvettes at Carlisle event completes, with attendance at 25,000, and about 2,000 Corvettes on display.
  • 1993 - At the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the Corvettes at Carlisle '93 show is held, over three days. Over 40,000 people attend. Kevin Mackay debuts a cutaway Sunay DX 1968 Corvette L88, with half a body, showing interior from bumper to bumper.
  • 1999 - The Corvettes at Carlisle meet is held, at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania. About 6000 Corvettes and 50,000 enthusiasts attend. Highlights of the auctions include:
    • 1958 convertible with 3000 miles, US$41,000; 1958 convertible with documented racing history, US$94,000; 1963 coupe, US$40,500;
    • 1967 red convertible with 400/427 engine and side pipes, US$56,500.

  • 2004 - The Corvettes at Carlisle event is held, over three days. There are over 56,000 visitors, 2499 Corvettes in the infield, and 1267 vendors. Special features include 1954 Corvette reunion, Corvette race car reunion, and special display of Greenwood Corvettes. Dana Mecum conducts the auction of 224 Corvettes. Some highlights:
    • Chip Miller-donated 1957 Aztec Copper 283ci/230hp 4-speed with hardtop 13,317 miles: US$134,000.
    • 1954 Sportsman Red: US$59,250.
    • 1957 Aztec Copper fuel-injected 283ci/250hp 4-speed: US$77,000.
    • 1958 Silver Blue dual carburetors 283ci/270hp: US$71,500.
    • 1967 Ermine White roadster 427ci/435hp: US$102,500.
    • 1967 roadster 427ci/390hp air-conditioning US$90,000.
    • 1967 Ermine White roadster 327ci/300hp 4-speed power steering power brakes side exhaust 37,000 miles: US$70,000.

  • 2005 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, in Lexington, Ohio, the EMCO Gears Classic race is held, round ten of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 14th in GT class and 32nd overall is the Stevenson Motorsports #57 Corvette, driven by Buddy Rice and Tommy Riggins.
    • Finishing 15th in GT class and 33rd overall is the ASC Motorsports #55 Corvette, driven by Johnny Miller and Zach Arnold.

  • 2005 - At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the Molson Indy Montreal race is held, round nine (final) of the Trans-Am Series.
    • Finishing 3rd is the Derhaag Motorsports #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.
    • Finishing 4th is the Tony Ave Racing #06 Corvette, driven by Joey Scarallo.
    • Finishing 6th is the Hypermax Engineering #83 Corvette, driven by Max Lagod.
    • In 14th place, but not finishing the race, is the Derhaag Motorsports #78 Corvette, driven by Hima Maher.

  • 2005 - Final standings of top ten Corvette drivers at the end of the 2005 Trans-Am Series: 2nd Randy Ruhlman, 5th Joey Scarallo, 7th Hima Maher. Corvette is second place for manufacturer title.

World War II history:

  • 1928 - The Pact of Paris (Kellogg-Briand Pact) is signed by the USA, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Poland. The countries condemn recourse to war, renouncing it as an instrument of national policy in relations with one another.
  • 1938 - German General Ludwig Beck resigns as Chief of General Staff, in opposition to a planned invasion of Czechoslovakia.
  • 1939 - (0935 hours) German Abwehr contacts Lieutenant Dr. Hans-Albrecht Herzner of the Construction Training Company 800 for Special Duties in Poland, telling him to release his prisoners and get his group back to German soil immediately.
  • 1939 - (1230 hours) The German Construction Training Company 800 for Special Duties re-crosses the border back into Germany.
  • 1940 - In Canada, Order-in-Council PC 4185 passes, making all single or widowed men aged 21-45 eligible to be called for military training.
  • 1942 - Soviet long-range bombers make an air raid on Berlin, from bases 1000 miles away.
  • 1942 - Josef Stalin appoints General Georgy Zhukov as deputy supreme commander of the Red Army, sending him to direct the defense of Stalingrad.
  • 1942 - (evening) A British Pathfinder bombing force leads about 300 bombers against Frankfurt, Germany. Severe damage to the targets is done. 31 planes are shot down.
  • 1942 - (evening) Nine British Lancaster bombers attack the new German aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin at Gdynia. The ship is not hit, but no planes are shot down.
  • 1943 - 185 Flying Fortress bombers of US 8th Air Force attack a rocket launching site near Watten and Calais, France, thoroughly destroying the site. All planes return safely.
  • 1944 - British Bomber Command launches a Halifax bomber attack against synthetic oil targets in Hamburg, Germany. No bombers are shot down.
  • 1944 - Soviet partisans seize a German military mission returning from Romania, killing them all.
  • 1944 - The German garrison at Marseille, France, surrenders to the French.
  • 1944 - In Italy, the Canadian 1st Infantry Division breaks through the Red Line of German positions along the Arzilla River.
  • 1944 - (evening) 378 British Lancaster bombers attack Kiel, Germany, inflicting great damage.
  • 1994 - Slovakia issues two postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the Slovak uprising.

Video game history:

  • 1997 - Sony releases the Dual Analog controller for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 1999 - In Tokyo, Japan, the Space World '99 show is held. Nintendo reveals the 64DD, an attachment to the Nintendo 64 allowing storage of game data and access to the Internet.
  • 2002 - Sony releases the PS2 Network Adapter for the PlayStation 2 in the US. Price is US$39.99.
  • 2002 - Sony CEA releases the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US. Price is US$59.99.
  • 2004 - After 17 years in business, Acclaim Entertainment shuts down operations due to inability to secure financing.
  • 2007 - Nintendo releases the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption video game for the Nintendo Wii in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1634 - The Battle of Nördlingen is fought. The Imperial armies number 33,000 troops, the Protestant forces with 25,000. At the end of the day, 12,000 Protestants are dead, another 4,000 captured, including Swedish army leader Gustaf Horn.
  • 1645 - Sweden and Saxony sign the cease-fire Truce of Kötzschenbroda.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1986 - The Royal Canadian Mint announces the appointment of a new Master of the Mint, Maurice Lafontaine.
  • 1999 - In Beauport, Quebec, the Royal Canadian Mint launches the September 1999 25-cent Millenium coin, entitled Canada Through a Child's Eye.

Sports history:

  • 1911 - Chicago White Sox pitcher Ed Walsh no-hits Boston Red Sox, 5-0.
  • 1921 - J E Clair of Acme Packing Company of Green Bay granted an APFA franchise (Green Bay Packers).
  • 1937 - Brooklyn Dodgers' Fred Frankhouse no-hits Cincinnati Reds, 5-0 in 7 2/3 inning game.
  • 1938 - New York Yankees' Monte Pearson no-hits Cleveland Indians 13-0, Joe DiMaggio hits three triples.
  • 1974 - New York Mets' Benny Ayala hits a home run in his first at bat.
  • 1977 - Toby Harrah and Bump Wills hit back-to-back inside-the-park-homers off New York Yankees' pitcher Ken Clay at Yankee Stadium, Texas Rangers won 8-2.
  • 1978 - Cincinnati Reds' Joe Morgan is first to hit 200 home runs and have 500 stolen bases.
  • 1978 - New York Yankees' Catfish Hunter's 6-2 win gives him a perfect 6-0 for the month.
  • 1982 - Rickey Henderson steals 119th base of season; breaks Lou Brock's mark.
  • 2005 - Jeff Kent of the Los Angeles Dodgers becomes the first major league player to hit 300 homers as a second baseman.
  • 2022 - At Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Denver Broncos beats Minnesota Vikings by score 23-13.
  • 2022 - At Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Indianapolis Colts beats Tampa Bay Buccaneers by score 27-10.
  • 2022 - At M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Baltimore Ravens beats Washington Commanders by score 17-15.
  • 2022 - At Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Miami Dolphins beats Philadelphia Eagles by score 48-10.
  • 2022 - At Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Tennessee Titans beats Arizona Cardinals by score 26-23.

  • 2020 - Hurricane Laura makes landfall in Lake Charles, Louisiana with winds of 150 mph, making it the strongest hurricane to ever strike the state in terms of windspeed, tied with the 1856 Last Island Hurricane.

USA history:

  • 1776 - British defeat Americans in Battle of Long Island.
  • 1859 - First successful oil well drilled, near Titusville, Pennsylvania, USA.
  • 1927 - Parks College, America's oldest aviation school, opens.
  • 1928 - Sixteen die in New York City subway accident.
