  • 1997 - Viet Nam issues a 400-dong postage stamp for the 50th anniversary of the Post and Telecommunications Union, depicting a personal computer.
  • 1998 - Gateway introduces the Gateway Destination computer. It features 333 MHz Celeron processor, 27-inch television monitor, DVD drive, 2 GB hard drive. Price is US$1999.
  • 1998 - Gateway introduces the Gateway Destination computer. It features 450 MHz Pentium II processor, 36-inch television monitor, surround sound speakers, 2 GB hard drive. Price is US$4999.
  • 1998 - Be releases BeOS Release 3.2 operating system for Intel-compatible processor-based personal computers. Updated features include more support for Pentium and PowerPC processors, improved DOS and Window file format support, faster animation, and an improved Web browser.
  • 2002 - Intel releases the 2.5 GHz Pentium 4 processor, with 400 MHz front-side bus. Price is US$243 in quantities of 1000.
  • 2002 - Intel releases the 2.6 GHz Pentium 4 processor, with 400 MHz front-side bus. Price is US$401 in quantities of 1000.
  • 2002 - Intel releases the 2.66 GHz Pentium 4 processor, with 533 MHz front-side bus. Price is US$401 in quantities of 1000.
  • 2002 - Intel releases the 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 processor, with 533 MHz front-side bus. Price is US$508 in quantities of 1000.
  • 2002 - Caldera International announces it is changing its name to The SCO Group.
  • 2010 - Sweden issues a postage stamp depicting a laptop computer.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1949 - The Goofy film Tennis Racquet is released.
  • 1985 - The Disney Channel airs the last Coming On TV show.
  • 1988 - Disney releases the film Big Business to theaters in the UK.
  • 1990 - The NBC TV network airs The Magical World of Disney show, entitled Sky High.
  • 1994 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film It's Pat to theaters.
  • 1994 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Camp Nowhere to theaters.
  • 1997 - Walt Disney Home Video releases the film Mary Poppins on videocassette.
  • 2003 - Buena Vista Games releases the TRON 2.0 video game for Windows-based personal computers in the US.
  • 2008 - Disney releases The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning on DVD in Canada.
  • 2009 - At the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, Disney Cruise Line celebrates the keel laying of the Disney Dream cruise ship (1250 staterooms, 128,000 gross tons), scheduled to sail in 2011.
  • 2010 - Comedy Central airs the Futurama TV show in the USA. An announcer says "We interrupt our program of the Jonas Brothers and their orchestra..."

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1962 - At Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Richard Thompson races Gulf Oil's 1962 Corvette to first place in both races.
  • 1994 - The 13th annual Corvettes at Carlisle show is held, over three days.
  • 2000 - At the Watkins Glen International raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, the Bosch Summerfest at The Glen race is held, round nine of the Grand-Am Motorola Cup series.
    • Finishing 2nd in SGS class and 2nd overall is the Phoenix American Motorsports #37 Corvette, driven by John Heinricy and Stu Hayner.
    • Finishing 5th in SGS class and 5th overall is the First Racing #22 Corvette, driven by Michael Culver and Mike Fitzgerald.
    • Finishing 8th in SGS class and 8th overall is the Planet Earth Motorsport #43 Corvette, driven by Joe Nonnamaker and Bill Pate.
    • Finishing 12th in SGS class and 48th overall is the Powell Motorsport #11 Corvette, driven by Devon Powell and Doug Goad.

  • 2005 - In Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the 24th annual Corvettes at Carlisle show is held, over three days. A record 2586 Corvettes and 54932 people attend. The Mecum Auction sells over 100 Corvettes. Some highlights: 1958 silver and blue convertible US$71,500; 1967 white convertible US$102,500.
  • 2006 - At the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, the Sonoma 250 race is held, round fourteen of the Grand American Rolex Series. Finishing 10th in GT class and 31st overall is the Stevenson Motorsports #57 Corvette, driven by Vic Rice and Tommy Riggins.
  • 2007 - At the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, the Grand Prix of Mosport race is held, round nine of the American Le Mans Series.
    • Finishing 1st in LMGT1 class and 10th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C6.R driven by Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen.
    • Finishing 2nd in LMGT1 class and 11th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C6.R driven by Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta.
    • Finishing 3rd in LMGT1 class and 12th overall is the Corvette Racing #33 Corvette C6.R driven by Ron Fellows and Andy Pilgrim.

  • 2021 - (to August 28) Corvettes at Carlisle is held. The Grand Sport Registry holds their Grand Sport 25th Anniversary Celebration.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - (0030 hours) German Lieutenant Dr. Hans-Albrecht Herzner leads a 24-man group, the Construction Training Company 800 for Special Duties, into the forests of Poland. Their mission is to seize the railway station at Mosty in Jablunka Pass in the Carpathian Mountains to prevent destruction of the rail tunnel. Herzner had not been contacted to delay the mission.
  • 1939 - (afternoon) 14 men of the German Construction Training Company 800 for Special Duties inside Poland reach Mosty, cutting the telephone and telegraph lines. Polish guards are alerted and counterattack.
  • 1939 - In Canada, the Irish Regiment of Canada is called to active duty.
  • 1939 - In Canada, the militia is called to duty to protect coastal defences and vulnerable industrial points.
  • 1940 - No. 1 Fighter Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, first engages German planes in battle, shooting down three bombers and damaging four others, losing just one Canadian plane and pilot.
  • 1941 - Six British Blenheim bombers set out for Heligoland, as a diversion while others attack German shipping. Four planes are shot down.
  • 1941 - In Canada, a Privy Council order calls for the establishment of an experimental offensive chemical warfare station in Suffield, Alberta, and for the Chemical Warfare Laboratories in Ottawa to work on defence.
  • 1944 - In Italy, the 1st Canadian Division crosses the Metauro River.
  • 1944 - (by 0615 hours) Two Canadian brigades secure a bridgehead over the Metauro River, Italy.
  • 1944 - Romania declares war on Germany.
  • 1944 - The German garrison at Toulon, France, surrenders to the French.
  • 1944 - British Dr. R.V. Jones issues a report on German rockets. The report gives estimates close to actual German figures: range 200-210 km (German: 207), current stockpile 2000 (actual 1800), monthly production about 500 (actual average 618), intended monthly rate of fire about 800 (German target 900).
  • 1945 - American troops begin arriving in Japan.

Video game history:

  • 1997 - EA Sports releases the Madden NFL 98 video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 1998 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. Video game dialog: "Where is the Nintendo?" "We don't have a Nintendo. We got a ColecoVision plugged into the black and white TV."
  • 2000 - Enix releases the Dragon Quest VII video game for the PlayStation in Japan.
  • 2002 - Nintendo releases the Super Mario Sunshine video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2002 - In the US, Microsoft begins offering a full-cost US$30 rebate on a DVD playback kit when purchased with a new Xbox. The offer ends November 2.
  • 2003 - Namco releases the Soul Calibur II video game for the GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 in the US. Namco and Electronics Boutique hold a midnight release party in New York City.
  • 2010 - Comedy Central airs the Futurama TV show in the USA. At a convention there are booths for "Videogame the Movie", and for "Movie the Videogame", and a character is dressed like Nintendo's Mario character.

Swedish history:

  • 1617 - King Gustav Adolf addresses the Estates at the opening of Stockholm Riksdag, telling of peace with Russia, and new lands to manage.
  • 1972 - (to September 10) The 20th Olympic Games are held in Munich, Germany. Sweden wins 4 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1971 - In Vancouver, British Columbia, the Canadian Numismatic Association hold its convention, over three days.

USA coin history:

  • 1799 - The Philadelphia Mint is closed due to a yellow fever epidemic, and remains closed for two months.
  • 1801 - Ship New Jersey leaves England with 25 tons of cent planchets from Matthew Boulton for US Mint.
  • 1935 - An Act of Congress extends the Daniel Boone bicentennial commemorative coin and authorizes re-dating.
  • 2013 - The US Mint releases the 2013 America the Beautiful - Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarter dollar coin to circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1903 - Philadelphia Phillies walk 17 Brooklyn Dodgers in a game.
  • 1916 - Philadelphia Athletics' pitcher Joe Bush no-hits Cleveland Indians, 5-0.
  • 1916 - New York Yankees turn triple-play beating Saint Louis Browns 10-6.
  • 1938 - Montreal Maroons hockey team is dropped from the NHL.
  • 1939 - The first Major League Baseball game is telecast (W2XBS New York), a doubleheader between the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field.
  • 1955 - First color telecast (NBC) of a tennis match (Davis Cup).
  • 1961 - Official International Hockey Hall of Fame opens in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
  • 1962 - Minnesota Twins' Jack Kralick no-hits Kansas City Athletics 1-0.
  • 1971 - New York Giants football team announces its leaving the Bronx for New Jersey in 1975.
  • 1971 - Baltimore Orioles' Don Buford strikes out five times in a game.
  • 1972 - New York Cosmos beat Saint Louis Stars, 2-1 to win the NASL championship.
  • 1972 - (to September 10) The Games of the XX Olympiad are held in Munich, Germany.
  • 1973 - 10-year-old Mary Boitano wins 6.8-mile Dipsea Race in Marin County, California, beating a field of 1,500 runners.
  • 1984 - Tatyana Kazankina of USSR sets 3k woman record (8:22.62) in Leningrad.
  • 1984 - Zdena Silvaha (Czechoslovakia) throws discus 74.55m (women's world record).
  • 1985 - Baltimore Orioles' Eddie Murray knocks in nine RBIs in a game versus California Angels.
  • 1989 - The Trumbull (Connecticut) All-stars become the first American team to win the Little League World Series since 1983.
  • 1991 - Kansas City Royals' Brett Saberegen no-hits Chicago White Sox 7-0.
  • 1999 - Michael Johnson captures the 400m world record.
  • 2002 - The first video streaming coverage of a Major League Baseball game takes place on the internet. Approximately 30,000 fans visit MLB.com to see the New York Yankees defeat the Texas Rangers, 10-3.
  • 2022 - At Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Las Vegas Raiders beats New England Patriots by score 23-6.
  • 2022 - At Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, National Football League pre-season game: New Orleans Saints beats Los Angeles Chargers by score 27-10.
  • 2022 - At AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Dallas Cowboys beats Seattle Seahawks by score 27-26.
  • 2022 - At Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, National Football League pre-season game: Carolina Panthers beats Buffalo Bills by score 21-0.
  • 2022 - At T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Seattle Mariners beats Cleveland Guardians by score 3-2.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: New York Yankees beats Oakland Athletics by score 3-2.
  • 2022 - At Busch Stadium in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Atlanta Braves beats Saint Louis Cardinals by score 11-4.

  • 1920 - US Constitution 19th Amendment passes - women's suffrage granted.
  • 1964 - Lyndon Johnson nominated for President at Democratic convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
  • 1990 - Two slain college students found in Gainesville, Florida.
  • 2018 - An Esports tournament is held in Jacksonville, Florida, a qualifying round for EA's Madden 19 Classic. A competitor is eliminated, then pulls out a handgun and starts shooting, killing three, including himself.
  • 2020 - Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos becomes the first person in history to have a net worth exceeding US$200 billion, according to Forbes.
  • 2021 - At least 182 people are killed, including 13 U.S. service members, in a suicide bomb attack at Kabul airport, Afghanistan.

Other history:

  • 1883 - Krakatoa erupts with increasingly large explosions, kills 36,000.
  • 1972 - Summer Olympics open in Munich, West Germany.
