Personal computer history:

  • 1995 - Quote by comedian Jay Leno about computers, at a rehersal for the Windows 95 launch: "I came illiterate, now I'm leaving virtually retarded.".
  • 2000 - Intel announces the XScale processor for future handheld computers, and demonstrates a processor running at 1 GHz.
  • 2002 - Apple Computer launches Mac OS X 10.2 operating system. New features include instant-messaging client iChat, and handwriting recognition technology Inkwell. Price is US$129 for single user, or US$199 for a five-user package. Code-name during development was Jaguar. For the first time since the original Macintosh launch in January 1984, the "Happy Mac" icon is not part of the start-up sequence. It has been replaced by a silver-gray Apple icon.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1986 - The U.S. Senate passes a bill, Public Law 99-391, designating December 5, 1986 as "Walt Disney Recognition Day".
  • 1990 - Disney releases an updated version of the film You - and Your Five Senses for educational use.
  • 1990 - Disney releases an updated version of the film You - the Human Animal for educational use.
  • 1990 - Disney releases an updated version of the film You - the Living Machine for educational use.
  • 1990 - Disney releases an updated version of the film You - and Your Food for educational use.
  • 1991 - Buena Vista Distribution releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film True Identity to theatres.
  • 1992 - The Town Square Café at Disneyland closes.
  • 2015 - The Animation Gallery shop in Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World closes.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1980 - At the Grand Prix Molson Trois-Rivieres, in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, the CRC Chemicals Trans-Am Championship - Round 6 race is held.
    • Finishing 2nd is the Pickett Racing #6 Corvette, driven by Greg Pickett.
    • Finishing 3rd is the Jepsen/Atlas #60 Corvette, driven by John Brandt, Jr.
    • Finishing 4th is the #8 Corvette, driven by Nick Engels.
    • In 8th place, but not finishing the race, is the Rynone #90 Corvette, driven by Michael Wiernicki.
    • Finishing 9th is the Auto Barn #64 Corvette, driven by Robert Baechle.
    • In 13th place, but not finishing the race, is the Little Foreign Car Shop #93 Corvette, driven by Michael Oleyar.
    • In 16th place, but not finishing the race, is the #83 Corvette, driven by Warren Fairbanks.

  • 1991 - At the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the Corvettes at Carlisle '91 show is held, over three days. Over 3,000 Corvettes attend.
  • 2002 - The Corvettes at Carlisle show is held, over three days. 56,000 people attend. The Evolution Display includes 103 Corvettes, including one of each model and body style from 1953 to 2003.
  • 2020 - At the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia, USA, the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR race is held, round 5 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 1st overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 4th in GT Le Mans class and 4th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C8.R driven by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - In Moscow, Germany and the Soviet Union sign a Treaty of Non-Aggression. A secret protocol of the pact defines domains of influence, with the Soviet Union to gain eastern Poland, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, and the Romanian province of Bessarabia. Germany is to control western Poland and Lithuania.
  • 1939 - Prince Philipp von Hessen of Germany relays message from England's Duke of Kent to Adolf Hitler that if Germany invades Poland, Great Britain would declare war. Adolf Hitler does not believe Britain would fight over Poland.
  • 1939 - German pocket-battleship Deutschland slips through the North Sea, unobserved by the British.
  • 1941 - Japanese Kwantung Army officials and senior Japanese Army officials decide to not fight the USSR.
  • 1942 - The German 6th Army crosses the Don River near Kalach.
  • 1942 - German forces make an air raid on Stalingrad.
  • 1943 - Soviet forces recapture Kharkov, ending the Battle of Kursk.
  • 1943 - (evening) 727 British bombers are sent against Berlin, Germany. 70 turn back early, and 57 are shot down. Much damage is done to the city.
  • 1944 - Romania is liberated; King Michael unconditionally surrenders to the Allies.
  • 1949 - Romania issues a postage stamp marking the 5th anniversary of liberation by the Soviet army.
  • 1954 - Romania issues a postage stamp marking the 10th anniversary of liberation.
  • 1959 - Romania issues a postage stamp marking the 15th anniversary of liberation.
  • 1964 - Romania issues five postage stamps marking the 20th anniversary of liberation.
  • 1969 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 25th anniversary of the landing of French and American forces in Provence.
  • 1969 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Paris.
  • 1969 - Romania issues three postage stamp marking the 25th anniversary of liberation.
  • 1974 - The USSR issues a postage stamp marking the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Romania.
  • 1984 - The USSR issues a postage stamp marking the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Romania.
  • 1989 - Hundreds of thousands of citizens of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania publicly demonstrate on the 50th anniversary of the Nazi-Soviet Pact, demanding restoration of independent status.
  • 2000 - Denmark issues a postage stamp depicting the liberation of Denmark, part of a Millennium series.

Video game history:

  • 1991 - Hudson releases the 1941 video game for the PC Engine in Japan.
  • 1993 - Nintendo and Silicon Graphics announce a collaboration on a new video game system, to use the 64-bit MIPS R4000 processor. The new system is code-named Project Reality.
  • 1999 - Sony drops the price of the PlayStation in the USA from US$129 to US$99.
  • 2002 - Capcom releases the Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2005 - Nintendo releases the Advance Wars: Dual Strike video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2005 - Sierra releases The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2011 - Square Enix releases the Deus Ex: Human Revolution video game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1521 - At a meeting at Vadstena, Gustav Eriksson is proclaimed Regent of the Realm.
  • 1631 - The Swedish army marches from Werben to Wittenberg, to fully meet Tilly's army.
  • 1813 - Prince Karl Johan's force attacks at Grossbeeren.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1954 - The Canadian Numismatic Association holds its first annual convention, hosted by the Toronto Coin Club.
  • 1977 - At the American Numismatic Association convention in Atlanta, Georgia, Frank MacDonald, acting director of the US Mint comments that mint officials were surprised by Yvon Gariepy's announcement of a smaller cent to be issued in January.

USA coin history:

  • 1794 - The Bank of North America deposits more than $20,000 in silver at the Philadelphia Mint for coinage.
  • 1965 - The Philadelphia Mint begins production of clad quarter dollar coins.

Sports history:

  • 1883 - Philadelphia Phillies make 27 errors against Providence (wild pitches, walks and passballs count as errors prior to 1888).
  • 1907 - Pittsburgh Pirates' pitcher Howie Camnitz no-hits New York Giants, 1-0 in five-inning game.
  • 1933 - First televised boxing match, between Archie Sexton and Laurie Raiteri in London, England, broadcast by the BBC's experimental TV service.
  • 1950 - Federal Republic of Germany and Japan re-admitted to International Amateur Athletic Federation.
  • 1953 - Phil Grate sets record for throwing a baseball (443 feet, 3.5 inches).
  • 1964 - Saint Louis Cardinals are 11 games back in National League, and go on to win the World Series.
  • 1968 - New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers play 3-3 tie in 19 innings due to 1 AM curfew.
  • 1969 - Audrey McElmory (US) wins World Cycling Championships, Brno, Czechoslovakia (first American to win cycling race title since 1912).
  • 1985 - Paul Hornung awarded US$1,160,000 by a Louisville court against NCAA who barred him as a college football analyst for betting on games.
  • 1985 - Said Aouita of Morroco sets the 1.5k record (3:29.46) in Berlin, Germany.
  • 1989 - Los Angeles Dodgers beat Montreal Expos, 1-0, in 22 innings.
  • 2009 - Eric Bruntlett of the Philadelphia Phillies completes only the second ever game-ending unassisted triple play in Major League Baseball, giving his team a 9-7 victory over the New York Mets.
  • 2009 - In Valencia, Spain, round 11 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Rubens Barrichello.
  • 2010 - Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki defeats Russia's Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 at the WTA tour Rogers Cup in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, earning US$350,000 for the victory.
  • 2020 - Bayern Munich wins the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League by beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final 1-0.
  • 2020 - At the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia, USA, the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR race is held, round 5 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 1st overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.

  • 2022 - At Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Dodgers beats Milwaukee Brewers by score 10-1.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Miami Marlins beats Oakland Athletics by score 5-3.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Clevelnd Guardians beats San Diego Padres by score 3-1.
  • 2022 - At Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Colorado Rockies beats Texas Rangers by score 7-6.

  • 1989 - Yusef Hawkins is shot in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, New York, sparking racial tensions between African Americans and Italian Americans.
  • 1996 - Osama bin Laden allegedly writes "The Declaration of Jihad on the Americans Occupying the Country of the Two Sacred Places," his first open call for war.
