Since 1995, I have been collecting information on a variety of topics, creating several timelines of history. Personal computer history:

  • 1980 - The Project Chess task force at IBM shows a prototype microcomputer to the Corporate Management Committee. Specifications for the proposed computer are: 32 kB ROM, 16 kB RAM (up to 256 kB), six slots, color/mono display, 8-inch floppy disk drives, optional floating-point processor, joystick port, and printer port. Approval is given to build an operational microcomputer, code-named Acorn. They are given a deadline of one year to bring the new computer to market.
  • 1995 - The US Justice Department announces it will not pursue an antitrust case against Microsoft before the launch of Windows 95.
  • 2006 - Tunisia issues a postage stamp depicting a personal computer.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - Disney completes the 21st Alice Comedy film, Alice Chops the Suey.
  • 1927 - Film Booking Offices releases the Alice Comedy film Alice the Beach Nut to theaters.
  • 1945 - Disney delivers the film Hold Your Horsepower to The Texas Company.
  • 1952 - The animated film The Little House is released. The film is based on the book by Virginia Lee Burton.
  • 1953 - Marvin Davis completes his first diagram plan for the Disneyland site. Walt adds a triangular area to show where he wants the railroad to bound the park.
  • 1986 - The TV series The Ellen Burstyn Show first airs on ABC.
  • 1995 - Disney releases the film Man of the House on laserdisc in the US, for US$40.
  • 2000 - Disney releases the animated film Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins on videocassette.
  • 2009 - The ABC TV network airs the final episode of the TV series Dirty Sexy Money.

  • 1982 - At the Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota, the CRC Chemicals Trans-Am Championship - Round 8 race is held.

  • 2004 - At the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, the Mosport Grand Prix race is held, round seven of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship series.
    • Finishing 2nd is the Banner Engineering #6 Corvette Z06, driven by Leighton Reese.
    • Finishing 3rd is the #28 Corvette Z06, driven by Lou Gigliotti.
    • Finishing 12th is the Tiger Racing #99 Corvette Z06, driven by Chip Herr.
    • Finishing 13th is the Black Dog Racing #34 Corvette Z06, driven by Tony Gaples.
    • Finishing 16th is the Dour Rippie Motorsport #9 Corvette Z06, driven by Adam Malmquist.

  • 2021 - At the Road America raceway in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, USA, the IMSA SportsCar Weekend race is held, round 8 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 2nd in GT Le Mans class and 14th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 3rd in GT Le Mans class and 17th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C8.R driven by Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - The German air force begins an intensive attack on British shipping in the English Channel.
  • 1941 - (early) Three or more Soviet I1-4 bombers make Russia's first air raids on Berlin.
  • 1944 - In the English Channel, German submarine U-667 torpedoes Royal Canadian Navy corvette Regina, which sinks within 30 seconds.
  • 1944 - (by about 0830 hours) Outside of Verriéres, France, Canadian tanks break through three lines of German defence, and stop on the edge of open ground, awaiting an upcoming bombing of further areas.
  • 1944 - (about 1100 hours) Outside of Verriéres, France, German tanks counterattack the Canadian line.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Bernards is hanged for his part in the Nazi resistance and July 20 coup attempt.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Lieutenant Albrecht von Hagen is hanged at Plotzensee prison. He had obtained explosives for various assassination attempts on Adolf Hitler from 1942 to 1944.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Major General Helmuth Stieff is executed. He had obtained and stored explosives for the bomb to kill Hitler.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Field Marshal Erwin von Witzleben is executed.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Peter Yorck von Wartenburg is executed, at age 43. He was a lawyer, and participant in coup planning.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Lieutenant General Paul von Hase is executed. Von Hase had ordered the Berlin garrison to surround buildings during the coup attempt.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Colonel General Erich Hoepner is executed. He was a member of Nazi resistance since 1938.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Captain Friedrich Karl Klausing is executed. He was an accomplice of Klaus von Stauffenberg on bomb attempts against Adolf Hitler.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Count Fritz-Dietlof von der Schulenburg is executed.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Captain Ulrich Wilhelm Schwerin von Schwanenfeld is executed, at age 42. He was an active member of coup plans, and was to serve in the post-Nazi cabinet.
  • 1944 - In Germany, Berthold von Stauffenberg is executed. He was brother of Klaus von Stauffenberg.
  • 1944 - American forces in France capture Le Mans.
  • 1944 - (about 1320 hours) Bombers of the US 8th Air Force bomb the area of a Canadian/Polish versus German tank battle between Verriéres and Falaise, France. They drop short, hitting many Allied positions. In the Canadian North Shore Regiment near Cormelles, 37 are killed, 78 wounded.
  • 1944 - (about 1340 hours) Phase 2 of Operation Totalize begins near Caen, France. Canadian and Polish armoured divisions advance.
  • 1944 - (1530 hours) Phase 3 of Operation Totalize begins, with Polish and Canadian tanks attempting to continue the push toward Falaise.
  • 1944 - The US 8th Division liberates Rennes, France.
  • 1945 - Emperor Hirohito informs the Japanese prime minister that the war must be ended as soon as possible, on the basis of the Potsdam Declaration.
  • 1945 - The Soviet Union declares war on Japan.
  • 1994 - Maldives issues four postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Europe.

Video game history:

  • 2001 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. A home video game system with four controllers is played. A new video game system is purchased, the Okama Gamesphere, likely a reference to the upcoming Nintendo GameCube. The game "Thirst for Blood" is played on the system.
  • 2002 - Microsoft announces it is working on a sequel to the Halo video game for the Xbox.
  • 2005 - Nintendo releases a Nintendo DS with red top and black bottom. Price is 15,000 yen (US$139).
  • 2006 - Capcom releases the Dead Rising video game for the Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2006 - Nintendo holds a 10th birthday Pokémon Party at the Bryant Park in New York City. Over 25,000 attend. Included is a giant Flying Pikachu from Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  • 2007 - Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox 360 in the USA by $50 to $350.
  • 2017 - Ninja Theory releases the Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice video game for the PlayStation 4 in the USA.
  • 2017 - Telltale Games releases the Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode One: The Enigma video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1627 - King Gustav Adolf is shot in the shoulder, while directing an attack on Poles.
  • 1700 - Denmark signs the peace treaty of Traventhal with Sweden.
  • 1914 - Sweden and Norway make a common declaration of neutrality.
  • 1980 - The 17th century warship Kronan is discovered by an archealogical team lead by Anders Franzén. The ship lies scattered in mud four miles east of Öland, where it sunk in 1676.

Canadian coin history:

  • 2007 - Canadian astronaut David Williams takes a special Royal Canadian Mint token into space on American Space Shuttle Endeavour, mission STS-118.

USA coin history:

  • 1786 - The American Continental Congress defines a silver dollar containing 375.64 grains of silver as the nation's unit of account.
  • 1974 - Mary Brooks takes oath of office for second five-year term as Mint Director.
  • 2010 - Stack's auctions a unique Specimen 1853-O Coronet gold eagle SP-61 NGC for US$316,250 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Sports history:

  • 1870 - Magic (US) defeats Cambria (England) in second running of America's Cup.
  • 1876 - Dan O'Leacy completes 500 mile walk in 139 hours 32 minutes.
  • 1920 - Detroit Tigers beat New York Yankees 1-0 in shortest American League game, 73 minutes.
  • 1922 - Pittsburgh Pirates set baseball record of 46 hits in a doubleheader (against Philadelphia Phillies).
  • 1931 - Washington Senators' pitcher Bob Burke no-hits Boston Red Sox, 5-0.
  • 1961 - Hamilton Tigercats (Canadian Football League) beat Buffalo Bills (NFL) 38-21 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
  • 1970 - New York Yankees honor Casey Stengel, retiring his number 37.
  • 1972 - New York Yankees sign 30-year lease with New York City.
  • 1977 - Texas Rangers turn their first triple play (vs Oakland Athletics).
  • 1984 - Carl Lewis wins his third (200m) gold medal in the Summer Olympics.
  • 1987 - Milwaukee Brewers' Rob Deer struck-out five times in a game.
  • 1988 - Chicago Cubs starts first home game under lights (rained-out).
  • 1988 - Pitcher Goose Gossage registers career save number 300.
  • 1988 - Jose Canseco of the Oakland Athletics becomes 11th player to get 30 home runs and 30 steals in a season.
  • 1988 - Minnesota Twins pull second triple-play of year and beat Cleveland Indians 6-2.
  • 1990 - Baltimore Orioles pull their 10th triple play (1-6-3 versus Oakland Athletics).
  • 1990 - Carlton Fisk ties Johnny Bench hitting 327 home runs as a catcher.
  • 2008 - (8:08 PM) In Beijing, China, the Games of the XXIX Olympiad open. An estimated one billion people worldwide watch the opening ceremonies on TV.

  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Francisco Giants beats San Diego Padres by score 1-0.
  • 2022 - At Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Arizona Diamondbacks beats Pittsburgh Pirates by score 3-0.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Oakland Athletics by score 1-0.

  • 1937 - Bonneville Dam on Columbia River (USA) begins producing power.
  • 1942 - Six convicted German saboteurs who landed in US are executed in Washington DC.

  • 1968 - Race riot in Miami, Florida.
  • 1973 - US Vice President Spiro T Agnew brands as "damned lies" reports he took kickbacks from government contracts in Maryland. He vows not to resign.

  • 1976 - John Roselli, hired by US Central Intelligence Agency to kill Cuban leader Fidel Castro, is found murdered.
  • 1978 - Pioneer-Venus 2 with five atmospheric probes launched toward Venus.
  • 1987 - Lynne Cox becomes first to swim from US to Russia across Bering Strait.
  • 1988 - Renovated New York City Central Park Zoo reopens after four years.
  • 1988 - US Secretary of State George Shultz narrowly escapes assassination attempt in Bolivia.
  • 1989 - STS-28: Space Shuttle Columbia takes off on a secret five-day military mission.
  • 2000 - Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley is raised to the surface after 136 years on the ocean floor.
  • 2000 - An unknown ship dumps oil off the South Florida coast, creating an oil slick covering 24km of beaches.
  • 2007 - The Space Shuttle Endeavour is successfully launched on mission STS-118.
  • 2008 - US home mortgage funder Fannie Mae posts a second-quarter loss of US$2.3 billion, its fourth straight quarter loss, totaling US$9.44 billion over the past year.
  • 2011 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average drops by 634 points during the day, following the Standard & Poors degrade of US government debt from AAA to AA+.
  • 2014 - The United States military begins an air campaign in northern Iraq to stem the influx of ISIS militants.
  • 2023 - A firestorm rages through the town of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, killing 100, burning 1000 structures.

  • 1988 - Russian troops begin pull out of Afghanistan after nine-year war.
  • 1990 - Iraq annexes Kuwait.
  • 2008 - Russian troops enter South Ossetia to counter Georgian offensive against the breakaway province.
