Since 1995, I have been collecting information on a variety of topics, creating several timelines of history. Personal computer history:

  • 1977 - At the Warwick Hotel in New York City, Radio Shack (a division of Tandy Corporation) announces the TRS-80 microcomputer. It features Zilog Z80 processor, 4 kB RAM, 4 kB ROM, keyboard, black-and-white video display, and tape cassette for US$599.
  • 1982 - Texas Instruments issues a US$100 rebate on the TI 99/4A, effectively reducing the retail price to US$199. The rebate is effective from September 1 until next January 31.
  • 2001 - The PCI-SIG group votes unanimously to adopt Intel's proposed 3GIO (also called Arapahoe) as a replacement technology for the PCI system bus in future personal computers. 3GIO is expected to be six times faster than the fastest current version of PCI. The specification is expected to be finalized as PCI 3.0 in mid-2002, with first products arriving in mid-2003, and wide adoption in 2004.
  • 2004 - id Software releases the Doom 3 game for Windows computers in the US.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1935 - The Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Fire Brigade is released to theaters. Donald Duck, Clarabelle Cow, and Goofy also appear.
  • 1955 - The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit display opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 1982 - Anguilla issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters playing soccer.
  • 1984 - Irwin Jacobs informs the Securities and Exchange Commission that he intends to hold a proxy meeting with shareholders in an attempt to vote out Disney's management.
  • 1990 - Buena Vista releases the Disney Movietoons animated feature film DuckTales: The Movie - Treasure of the Lost Lamp to theaters. It was produced and animated at Walt Disney Animation S.A. Productions, in France.
  • 1994 - Tokyo Disneyland welcomes its 150 millionth guest.
  • 2001 - Disney releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film The Princess Diaries to theaters in the USA. The film cost US$30 million to produce.
  • 2004 - Touchstone Home Entertainment releases the film Hidalgo on DVD in the USA.
  • 2005 - The Republic of China issues 4 postage stamps depicting Mickey Mouse in four films.
  • 2007 - Disney releases the film Underdog to theaters in North America.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 2002 - At Le Circuit Trois-Rivieres in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres race is held, round six of the American Le Mans Series.
    • Finishing 1st in GTS class and 5th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C5-R, driven by Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins.
    • Finishing 2nd in GTS class and 7th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C5-R, driven by Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell.

  • 2003 - At the Road America raceway in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the Mario Andretti Grand Prix at Road America race is held, round seven of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series.
    • Finishing 6th is the Tiger Racing #99 Corvette Z06, driven by Thomas Oates.
    • Finishing 10th is the Metric Chemical #35 Corvette Z06, driven by David Farmer.
    • Finishing 11th is the Black Dog Racing #25 Corvette, driven by Tony Gaples.
    • In 14th place, but not finishing the race, is the 3R Racing #73 Corvette, driven by Phil McClure.
    • Finishing 20th is the Berkeley Motorsports #57 Corvette Z06, driven by Jason Berkeley.
    • Finishing 22nd is the Popeyes #52 Corvette Z06, driven by Henry Gilbert.
    • In 24th place, but not finishing the race, is the Rathmann Chevy #16 Corvette Z06, driven by Jim Rathmann.

  • 2003 - At the Trois-Rivières circuit in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada, the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières race is held, round four of the American Le Mans Series.
    • Finishing 1st in GTS class and 4th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C5-R, driven by Kelly Collins, Oliver Gavin.
    • Finishing 2nd in GTS class and 5th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C5-R, driven by Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell.

  • 2006 - At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard race is held. A new Corvette Z06 is the official pace car.
  • 2007 - At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the Montreal 400K race is held, round twelve of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 11th in GT class and 26th overall is the Georgian Bay Motorsports #03 Corvette driven by Jamie Holtom and Eric Curran.
    • Finishing 15th in GT class and 31st overall is the Team Sahlen #43 Corvette driven by Joe Nonnamaker and Wayne Nonnamaker.
    • Finishing 17th in GT class and 34th overall is the Team Sahlen #42 Corvette driven by Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - The Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic is officially incorporated into the Soviet Union.
  • 1943 - The British War Cabinet agrees with General Dwight Eisenhower that Italy should be air-bombed to accelerate peace talks, and instructs Bomber Command to commence bombing.
  • 1943 - Soviet forces launch Operation Rumyantsev against German troops in the Belgorod-Kharkov area.
  • 1944 - Lieutenant-General Kenneth Stuart, Chief of Staff at Canadian Military Headquarters, London, England, assures the Canadian government that there are sufficient reserve troops for the duration of the war.
  • 1944 - Heinrich Himmler orders the entire Stauffenberg family exterminated. Tens of thousands of family members are arrested. Some are killed, some infants are sent away to be raised with SS families.
  • 1944 - Atlantic convoy HXS-300, the largest of the war at 167 ships, arrives safely in the United Kingdom after a 17-day crossing.
  • 1944 - Soviet forces near Poland cease fighting during the Warsaw uprising, refusing to intervene in aid of the Poles.

Video game history:

  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US. A character plays a TV video game with a wireless controller.

Swedish history:

  • 1387 - Olav, son of the late King Håkon of Norway, dies.
  • 1914 - Sweden proclaims complete neutrality.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1931 - An act allowing the establishment of the Royal Canadian Mint receives Royal Assent, making the Mint a branch of the Canadian Department of Finance.
  • 1999 - In Saskatoon, the Royal Canadian Mint launches the August 1999 25-cent Millenium coin, entitled, The Pioneer Spirit.

USA coin history:

  • 1835 - The US government purchases the site for the Dahlonega Mint, for US$1050.
  • 1964 - President Lyndon Johnson signs bill authorizing coinage of 45 million silver Peace dollars.
  • 1965 - U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro is ordered to destroy 40 pairs of partially-completed Peace design dollar dies at the Philadelphia Mint.
  • 1999 - The US Mint copyrights the Sacagawea dollar design.
  • 2007 - Senator Wayne Allard of Colorado introduces a bill in the US Senate, seeking transfer of constitutional power over composition of coinage from Congress to Treasury.
  • 2010 - The Philadelphia Mint begins striking Abraham Lincoln Presidential dollars for circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1852 - First intercollegiate rowing race in USA, Harvard beats Yale by four lengths.
  • 1881 - US Nation Lawn Tennis Association removes "Nation" from name.
  • 1914 - New York Yankees' catcher Nunamaker throws out three would-be stealers in one inning.
  • 1921 - Due to a technicality, eight Chicago White Sox players accused in the Black Sox scandal are acquited, however commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis throws them out of baseball.
  • 1928 - Ray Barbuti saves US team from defeat in Amsterdam Olympics track events by winning 400m (47.8 seconds).
  • 1930 - Second time in 1930, Chuck Klein of Philadelphia Phillies hits in 26 straight games.
  • 1933 - New York Yankees are shut out for first time after 308 games.
  • 1936 - American Jesse Owens wins Olympic 100m dash in 10.3 seconds.
  • 1949 - Basketball Association of America and National Basketball League merge to form the National Basketball Association.
  • 1952 - Games of the XV Olympiad close in Helsinki, Finland.
  • 1955 - Automobile Association of America ends support of auto racing.
  • 1956 - Willie Williams of the US sets 100 metre dash record at 10.1 seconds.
  • 1959 - American League beats National League 5-3 in 27th All Star Game (Dodger Stadium).
  • 1962 - New York Mets' Frank Thomas hits his 6th home run in three games.
  • 1969 - Cincinnati Reds beats Philadelphia Phillies 19-17.
  • 1970 - Four-day NFL strike ends.
  • 1975 - Louisiana Superdome is dedicated. The stadium cost $175 million to build.
  • 1979 - Fastest jai-alai shot (188 mph), Jose Arieto at Newport Jai Alai, Rhode Island.
  • 1980 - Duke Snider and Al Kaline enter baseball's Hall of Fame.
  • 1982 - Clyde King replaces Gene Michaels as New York Yankees' manager.
  • 1985 - "Nihilator" sets harness pacing mile (1:49.6) in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
  • 1987 - Chicago Bears beat Dallas Cowboys 17-6 in London, England (NFL expo).
  • 1989 - 5th jockey to win 6,000 races (Jorge Valesquez).
  • 1989 - Cincinnati Reds send record 20 men to bat with a record 16 hits in one inning as they score 14 runs in the first inning.
  • 1989 - Rickey Henderson sets American League mark of 50 steals in nine seasons.
  • 1990 - For the third time in 1990 a no-hitter is broken up with two outs in the 8th inning. Doug Drabek of Pittsburgh Pirates still beats Philadelphia Phillies 11-0.
  • 1990 - New York Yankees' player Kevin Mass sets record with 10th home run in first 72 at bats.
  • 1991 - Pan Am games open in Havana, Cuba.
  • 2022 - At Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Dodgers beats San Francisco Giants by score 3-0.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Diego Padres beats Colorado Rockies by score 9-1.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Oakland Athletics beats Los Angeles Angels by score 3-1.
  • 2022 - At PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Pittsburgh Pirates beats Milwaukee Brewers by score 8-7.
  • 2022 - At LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, USA , Major League Baseball regular season game: Miami Marlins beats Cincinnati Reds by score 3-0.
  • 2022 - At Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: New York Mets beats Washington Nationals by score 9-5.
  • 2022 - At Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Chicago White Sox beats Kansas City Royals by score 4-1.
  • 2022 - At Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Houston Astros beats Boston Red Sox by score 6-1.
  • 2022 - At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Baltimore Orioles beats Texas Rangers by score 6-3.
  • 2022 - At Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Minnesota Twins beats Detroit Tigers by score 4-1.
