Since 1995, I have been collecting information on a variety of topics, creating several timelines of history. Personal computer history:

  • 1995 - The US Justice Department files a brief with a federal judge in New York, asserting that Microsoft's marketing and sales strategy for its on-line service may be in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US. A flying saucer drops a tube to pick up a human; the tube takes a roundabout path much like the tube screen saver built into Windows.
  • 2004 - In Japan, the Fair Trade Commission issues a ruling that Microsoft violates the Anitmonopoly Act by the restrictions its Windows licensing agreements with computer makers.
  • 2011 - Serbia issues a 22-d postage stamp depicting six computer mouse pointing devices as petals of a flower.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - Walt Disney marries Lillian Bounds at her brother's house, in Lewiston, Idaho.
  • 1935 - The Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Garden is released to theaters. Pluto also appears.
  • 1945 - The Goofy film Californy 'er Bust is released to theaters.
  • 1955 - Walt and Lillian Disney hold their 30th wedding anniversary party at Disneyland, on Frontierland's Mark Twain Riverboat.
  • 1955 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, featuring A Further Report on Disneyland / A Tribute to Mickey Mouse.
  • 1994 - Michael Eisner and Michael Ovitz discuss the possibility of Ovitz becoming president of Disney. Ovitz indicates he would prefer to be co-CEO with Eisner.
  • 1999 - Touchstone Home Video releases the film A Civil Action on videocassette in the US.
  • 2006 - The Autopia opens in Tomorrowland at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1969 - At the Watkins Glen raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, Watkins Glen Six Hours of Endurance race is held.
    • Finishing 1st in GT+2.0 class and 7th overall is the Owens-Corning Fiberglas Racing Team #14 Corvette Sting Ray driven by Tony DeLorenzo and Dick Lang.
    • Finishing 2nd in GT+2.0 class and 9th overall is the Robert Esseks #30 Corvette driven by Robert Esseks and John Paul.

  • 1974 - At the Watkins Glen GP Course, in Watkins Glen, New York, Round 2 of the SCCA Trans-American Series is held, as well as the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen World Championship of Makes.
    • Finishing 9th in Trans-Am and 11th overall is the Pierce Racing Corvette, driven by Roger Pierce and Doug Mills.
    • Finishing 10th in Trans-Am and 12th overall is the FeinStein Racing Corvette, driven by Michael Oleyar and Sam Feinstein.
    • Finishing 15th in Trans-Am is the Rynone Industries Corvette, driven by Neil Wiernicki, Michael Wiernicki, and Tom Rynone.
    • Finishing 23rd in Trans-Am is the Davidson Racing Corvette, driven by Alex Davidson and Gary Witzenburg.

  • 1988 - The film The Dead Pool is released to theaters in the US. One scene has a radio-controlled scale-model 1960s Sting Ray as part of a car chase.
  • 1989 - MerCruiser begins production of LT5 engines for the Corvette ZR-1.
  • 1994 - The second C5 test car is completed.
  • 2002 - In Cleveland, Ohio, the Trans-Am on the Tarmac Presented by Microchip race is held, round 5 of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup.
    • Finishing 2nd is the Tommy Bahama #88 Corvette, driven by Butch Leitzinger.
    • Finishing 3rd is the Trenton Forging #02 Corvette, driven by Stuart Hayner.
    • Finishing 5th is the Derhaag Motorsports #40 Corvette, driven by Justin Bell.

World War II history:

  • 1941 - Spanish volunteer troops, called the Blue Division, leave for Germany to fight on the Eastern Front.
  • 1943 - Adolf Hitler orders the Kursk offensive in Russia halted, so that reserve forces could be sent to defend Italy.
  • 1943 - Canadian 1st Brigade of 1st Division reaches Giarratana, Sicily.
  • 1943 - (evening) British bombers attack Aachen.
  • 1944 - Adolf Hitler moves his headquarters to the Wolf's Lair near Rastenberg in East Prussia.

Video game history:

  • 1984 - Universal Pictures releases the film The Last Starfighter to theaters in the USA. In the film, a young man plays the Starfighter arcade video game, then travels into space to operate a real spaceship.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US. A character says "Fry, what in Sega Genesis happened to you?".
  • 2004 - Namco releases the Tales of Symphonia video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2004 - Microsoft Game Studios releases the Sudeki video game for the Xbox in the US.
  • 2010 - EA Sports releases the NCAA Football 11 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1397 - Two documents are produced at Kalmar by members of the three Scandinavian kingdoms, one announcing the king's coronation, the other declaring a union of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden with a common king, but separate laws for each realm.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1995 - Legislation to create a circulating $2 coin receives royal assent.

USA coin history:

  • 1792 - First delivery of half dimes from the Mint, 1500 of them.

Sports history:

  • 1896 - Ed Delahanty becomes second major league player to hit four home runs in a game.
  • 1900 - Philadelphia Phillies beat Pittsburgh Pirates 23-8.
  • 1934 - Babe Ruth hits home run number 700 against Detroit Tigers.
  • 1943 - First All Star night game (American League beats National League 5-4 at Shribe Park, Philadelphia).
  • 1948 - American League beats National League 5-2 in 15th All Star Game (Sportsman Park, Saint Louis).
  • 1954 - Pitcher Dean Stone gets credit for American League win, although he didn't retire a batter; he threw out Shoendienst trying to steal home. American League beats National League 11-9 in 21st All Star Game.
  • 1961 - National League beats American League 5-4 (10 innings) in 30th All Star Game (San Francisco, Candlestick Park).
  • 1963 - Early Wynn wins his 300th and last game at age 43.
  • 1965 - National League beats American League 6-5 in 36th All Star Game (Metropolitan Stadium, Minneapolis).
  • 1971 - American League beats National League 6-4 in 42nd All Star Game (Tiger Stadium, Detroit).
  • 1972 - Los Angeles Rams (Irsay) and Baltimore Colts (Rosenbloom) swap owners.
  • 1973 - Bobby Murcer's three homers account for all RBIs, beating Kansas City Royals 5-0.
  • 1976 - National League beats American League 7-1 in 47th All Star Game (Veteran's Stadium, Philadelphia).
  • 1982 - In the first All-Star game played outside the United States, the National League records its 11th straight win beating American League at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, 4-1.
  • 1984 - The New York Yankees retires Roger Maris (number 9) and Elston Howard (number 32) uniform numbers. The team also erects plaques in their honor to pay tribute to their achievements.
  • 1984 - Sergei Bubka of USSR pole-vaults a record 5.89 metres.
  • 2001 - Beijing wins the bid to host the 2008 Summer Olympics.
  • 2007 - The 15th Pan Am Games opens in Rio de Janeiro.
  • 2010 - The 81st All Star game of Major League Baseball is played at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, with the National League defeating the American League 3-1 for the first time since 1996.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Houston Astros by score 7-1.
  • 2022 - At Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Colorado Rockies beats San Diego Padres by score 10-6.
  • 2022 - At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Texas Rangers beats Oakland Athletics by score 5-2.
  • 2022 - At Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Baltimore Orioles beats Chicago Cubs by score 7-1.

Extreme weather history:

  • 1936 - A Midwestern U.S. heat wave sets the all-time highest temperature records for Wisconsin (46 C), Michigan (44 C), and Indiana (47 C).
  • 1975 - 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) of rainfall in Dover, Delaware (US state record).
  • 1995 - Dozens of cities in the USA, most notably Chicago and Milwaukee, set all-time record high temperatures. Hundreds of people in these and other cities die as the heat wave reaches its peak.
  • 2002 - A lightning strike sets off the Sour Biscuit Fire in Oregon and northern California, which is left to burn 499,570 acres (2,022 square km).
  • 2019 - Hurricane Barry strikes the Gulf Coast, killing one and causing over US$500 million in damages.

USA history:

  • 1787 - US Congress establishes Northwest Territory (excludes slavery).
  • 1787 - Ordinance of 1787: a territory can become three to five states at 60,000 population.
  • 1832 - Henry Rowe Schoolcraft discovers the source of the Mississippi River.
  • 1836 - US patent #1 (after 9,957 unnumbered patents), for locomotive wheels.
  • 1854 - US forces shell and burn San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua.
  • 1863 - Anti-draft mobs lynch blacks in New York City; about 1,000 die.
  • 1865 - Horace Greeley advises his American readers to "Go west young man".
  • 1866 - Federal legislation imposes 10 percent tax on state bank note circulation.
  • 1868 - Oscar J Dunn, former slave, installed as lieutenant governor of Louisiana.
  • 1919 - Race riots in Longview and Gregg counties, Texas, USA.
  • 1923 - The Hollywood Sign (reading "Hollywoodland") is officially dedicated in Los Angeles, California.

  • 1971 - The CBS TV network airs the last Hee Haw TV show in the USA.

  • 1977 - New York City experiences 25-hour black-out.
  • 1978 - Lee Iacocca fired as Ford Motor President by chairman Henry Ford II.
  • 1985 - U.S. Vice President George H.W. Bush serves as Acting President for eight hours, while President Ronald W. Reagan undergoes colon cancer surgery.
  • 1985 - Live Aid rock concert is staged in London, Philadelphia, Moscow, and Sydney. An estimated 1.5 billion television viewers in 169 countries watch 16 hours of performances by 180 pop musicians. Over US$110 million (£50 million) is raised for the Band Aid Trust, for African famine relief efforts.
  • 1986 - In the California - Mexico border region, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurs.
  • 1995 - Dozens of cities in the USA, most notably Chicago and Milwaukee, set all-time record high temperatures. Hundreds of people in these and other cities die as the heat wave reaches its peak.
  • 2008 - US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson unveils an emergency plan to save Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, mortgage holders of US$5.2 trillion.

  • 2008 - In Paris, France, French President Nicolas Sarkozy launches a new international body, the Union for the Mediterranean, with 43 member nations aimed at ending conflict in the Middle East.
