Personal computer history:

  • 1998 - Intel announces the 400 MHz Pentium II Xeon processor. It incorporates a dedicated 400 MHz bus between the processor and the secondary cache chips with up to 2 MB memory.
  • 1999 - La Salle Gallery in San Francisco sells an original Apple I computer with user manual, keyboard, and cabinet, at auction for US$18,000.
  • 2000 - Havas Interactive releases the game Diablo II for personal computers.
  • 2005 - Jerrold Kaplan, founder of Go company, files a lawsuit against Microsoft, claiming Microsoft violated antitrust laws by trying to thwart Go's attempt to enter the PC operating system market in the early 1990s.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1935 - The Silly Symphony film Who Killed Cock Robin? is released to theaters.
  • 1945 - The Donald Duck film Donald's Crime is released to theaters.
  • 1951 - The Goofy film Tomorrow We Diet is released.
  • 1966 - Buena Vista releases the live-action short film Run, Appaloosa, Run to theaters.
  • 1974 - The America Sings attraction opens in the Carousel Theater in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 1981 - The Broadway at the Top show opens in the Top of the World at the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World.
  • 1984 - Roy Disney informs the Securities and Exchange Commission that he now owns 5.2 percent of Disney stock.
  • 1984 - Disney releases the film Splash to theaters in the UK.
  • 1990 - The Bonanza Outfitters shop opens in Frontierland at Disneyland, in place of the Pendleton Woolen Mills Dry Goods Store.
  • 1990 - Disney announces it is forming a children's book publishing company.
  • 1991 - Antigua & Barbuda issues ten postage stamps depicting Disney characters demonstrating Japanese martial arts.
  • 1994 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Touchstone Pictures / Caravan Pictures live-action feature film I Love Trouble to theaters.
  • 1998 - The live-action feature film Armageddon premieres at the Kennedy Space Center, in Florida.
  • 2000 - The new Chevron Autopia attraction opens in Disneyland. It incorporates area formerly occupied by both previous Autopia attractions.
  • 2000 - In New York City, Sotheby's auctions seven art pieces specially-created for Fantasia/2000. Each had been commissioned by the Walt Disney Studio, one for each new segment in the film.
  • 2000 - The Autopia Winner's Circle shop opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 2001 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Crazy/Beautiful to theaters in the USA.
  • 2007 - Disney releases the Pixar animated film Ratatouille to theaters in North America.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1953 - The first production Corvette is completed.
  • 1958 - At Lime Rock, a car race is held.
    • Finishing 1st in B-Production class and 1st overall is Fred Windridge in a Corvette.

  • 1975 - At the Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, Ohio, Round 4 of the SCCA Trans-American Championship is held.
    • Finishing 1st is the Braun Corvette 427, driven by John Greenwood. Greenwood led the entire race, and set a race lap record at 100.152 MPH.
    • Finishing 4th is the Draime Enterprises Corvette 350, driven by Jim Sherman.
    • Finishing 5th is the Eclipse Corvette 350, driven by Bill Jobe.
    • Finishing 7th is the Milliken Corvette 454, driven by Robert Milliken.
    • Finishing 8th is the Automotive Interests Corvette 460, driven by Charles West.
    • Finishing 9th is the Hambden Metal Products Corvette 350, driven by Bob Bienerth.
    • Finishing 10th is the Brandt Corvette 350, driven by John Brandt Jr.
    • Finishing 11th is the Lechner's Corvette Service Corvette 350, driven by John Lechner.
    • Finishing 12th is The Big Apple Corvette 427, driven by John Huber.
    • Finishing 14th is The Bandag Corvette 427, driven by Denny Long.
    • Finishing 15th is the Bresee Corvette 460, driven by Alex Davidson.
    • Finishing 16th is the Babe's Garage Corvette 427, driven by Babe Headley.
    • Finishing 17th is the Trapletti Corvette 350, driven by Carl Trapletti Jr.
    • In 19th place, but not finishing the race, is the Hansen Corvette 327, driven by Jerry Hansen.
    • Finishing 20th is the Randy Stafford Racing Corvette 350, driven by Randy Stafford.
    • Finishing 22nd is the Warren & Ginny Wagner Corvette 350, driven by Bill Seip.
    • Finishing 25th is the L&L Racing Enterprises Corvette 350, driven by Jerry Lancaster.

  • 1984 - Warner Bros. Pictures releases the film Cannonball Run II to theaters in the USA. A red 1984 Corvette appears as one of the racing cars.
  • 1984 - At the Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, Ohio, the Quaker State Oil's Longest Day of Nelson '84, 5th annual 24-Hour Endurance Race for Showroom Production Cars is held, over three days. John Greenwood, Dave Heinz, and Rod Millen enter a 1984 Corvette, the first major race for the new model Corvette. They qualify in second place, lead the race after the first hour, and hold the lead for nine hours. Mechanical problems the plague the car. After the first twelve hours, the car has consumed seven sets of brake pads. They finish 24th overall.
  • 1985 - (to June 30) In Illinois, the Bloomington Gold show is held. The Special Collection includes four of the original five Corvette Grand Sport racers, and the original Sting Ray racer.
  • 1993 - The Chevrolet Central Office celebrates the 40th anniversary of Corvette. Chevrolet general manager Jim Perkins states that a fifth-generation Corvette will be produced for the 1997 model year.
  • 1999 - The last 1999 model Corvette is built, a silver coupe.
  • 2000 - At the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida, the Paul Revere 250 race is held, part of the Grand American Sports Car Series. In 5th place in GTO class and 41st place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Kreider Motorsport #15 Corvette driven by Daniel Urrutia.
  • 2001 - At the Virginia raceway in Virginia, Round 4? of the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series is held. Finishing 1st in SGS class and 1st overall is the Powell Motorsport #11 Corvette Z06, driven by Devan Powell and Doug Goad.
  • 2001 - At the National Corvette Museum, the first 1982 Collector Edition Rendezvous is held, over two days. 33 cars and 200 people attend.
  • 2001 - Mid America Designs hosts the first "Drive Your Corvette to Work Day", for the 48th anniversary of the Corvette.
  • 2001 - Paramount Pictures releases the film Pootie Tang to theaters in the USA. The main character drives a light blue 1969 convertible Corvette.
  • 2002 - At the Virginia raceway, round 5 of the Grand-Am Cup series is held.
    • Finishing 6th in GSI class and 36th overall is the Powell Motorsport #02 Corvette, driven by Michael Weinberg and Marty Miller.
    • Finishing 7th in GSI class and 43rd overall is the Powell Motorsport #11 Corvette, driven by Devon Powell and Doug Goad.
    • Finishing 8th in GSI class and 49th overall is the Planet Earth Motorsports #43 Corvette, driven by Joe Nonnamaker and Shane Lewis.

  • 2002 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, the Trans-Am Buckeye 100 race is held, round 4 of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup.
    • Finishing 1st is the Tommy Bahama #88 Corvette, driven by Butch Leitzinger.
    • Finishing 5th is the Trenton Forging #02 Corvette, driven by Stuart Hayner.
    • Finishing 10th is the Comer Racing #48 Corvette, driven by Jack Willes.
    • Finishing 12th is the Derhaag Motorsports #59 Corvette, driven by Simon Gregg.
    • Finishing 13th is the Preformed Line Products #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.
    • Finishing 15th is the Cenweld Corp./McNichols Co. #23 Corvette, driven by Bob Ruman.
    • Finishing 16th is the C.J. Webster #95 Corvette, driven by Charles Webster.
    • Finishing 20th is the XtremeLens #40 Corvette, driven by Justin Bell.

  • 2003 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, the Mid-Ohio Grand Sport 200 race is held, round seven of the Grand-Am Cup series.
    • Finishing 2nd in GS I class and 2nd overall is the Powell Motorsport #11 Corvette Z06, driven by Devon Powell and Doug Goad.
    • Finishing 7th in GS I class and 7th overall is the Powell Motorsport #02 Corvette Z06, driven by Mike Weinberg and John Heinricy.
    • Finishing 11th in GS I class and 25th overall is the Silverstone Racing Services #39 Corvette, driven by Larry Huang and Chris Hall.

  • 2003 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, the Chevy Grand Prix of Atlanta is held, round two in the American Le Mans Series.
    • Finishing 1st in GTS class and 7th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C5-R, driven by Kelly Collins, Oliver Gavin.
    • Finishing 3rd in GTS class and 9th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C5-R, driven by Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell.

  • 2004 - ChristianCinema.com releases the film Six: The Mark Unleashed on videocassette in the USA. A character says "I was part of the team that designed the engine for the last Corvette ever manufactured.".
  • 2006 - At the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Brumos Porsche 250 race is held, round eleven of the Grand American Rolex Series.
    • Finishing 6th in GT class and 28th overall is the Stevenson Motorsports #57 Corvette, driven by Vic Rice and Tommy Riggins.
    • Finishing 17th in GT class and 42nd overall is the Michael Baughman Racing #46 Corvette, driven by Michael Baughman and Bryan Collyer.

World War II history:

  • 1941 - Vichy Government of France breaks diplomatic relations with Soviet Union.
  • 1941 - In the Soviet Union, the State Defence Committee is formed by Josef Stalin, Molotov, Voroshilov, Malenkov, and Beria.
  • 1941 - (evening) 28 British bombers attack Hamburg. Six do not return.
  • 1942 - (evening) 253 British aircraft attack Bremen, Germany, hitting the Focke-Wulf fighter plane complex and the submarine construction yard.
  • 1943 - The Defence Committee of the British War Cabinet gives orders for Peenemünde, Germany to be bombed on the heaviest scale. Recent aerial reconnaissance had identified the area to be a center of rocket research and development.
  • 1945 - The Washington Post reports RAF officers found colossal airfield near Oslo, Norway, with 40 7000-mile range Heinkel bombers, which had been in preparation for bombing New York.
  • 2005 - Falkland Islands issues six postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1982 - Universal Studios files lawsuit against Nintendo of America claiming Donkey Kong violates copyright to King Kong.
  • 1982 - Universal Studios announces licensing agreement with Coleco Industries for Donkey Kong.
  • 1984 - Warner Bros. Pictures releases the film Cannonball Run II to theaters in the USA. A man plays Pac-Man in a car, probably the Atari 2600 version.
  • 1984 - Warner Communications begins talks with Jack Tramiel on the sale of part of Atari.
  • 1998 - Nintendo releases the Banjo-Kazooie video game for the Nintendo 64 in the US.
  • 1999 - GT Interactive releases the Driver video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 2001 - Square releases the Final Fantasy Chronicles video game for the PlayStation in the US. Included are Final Fantasy IV (Final Fantasy II in the US) and Chrono Trigger.
  • 2004 - Activision releases the Spider-Man 2 video game for the Xbox, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and N-Gage in the US.
  • 2008 - Activision/Red Octane releases the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2010 - Activision releases the Singularity video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2010 - Konami releases the N3 II - Nighty-nine Nights video game for the Xbox 360 in the US.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1852 - The British Treasury proposes that a distinctive Canadian coin, the pound currency, and called a "Royal", should be issued. The Royal would be equivalent to four US gold dollars. Silver coins of denominations 1/2 crown, 1 shilling, 1/2 shilling, and 1/4 shilling would also be produced.
  • 1992 - On Parliament Hill, Paul Dick, Minister responsible for the Mint, unveils the Canada 125 commemorative $1 coin. Rita Swanson created the design, showing the center block of the Parliament buildings.
  • 2000 - In Thunder Bay, Ontario, the Royal Canadian Mint launches the Celebration 25c Millenium coin, designed by Laura Paxton.
  • 2010 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases a $1 coin to circulation commemorating the founding of the Canadian Navy in 1910. Queen Elizabeth II unveils the new coin in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The obverse design featuring a Halifax-class frigate with 1910 naval serviceman and modern naval officer was created by Bonnie Ross.

USA coin history:

  • 1908 - Sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt forwards completed models for gold half eagle to the US Mint.
  • 1979 - The Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank stages dollar press conference.
  • 2012 - At the Whitman Baltimore Coin and Collectibles Expo, Stack's Bowers Galleries auctions a 1907 Saint-Gaudens, Roman Numerals, Ultra High Relief, Lettered Edge gold $20 double eagle, PR-69 PCGS, for US$2.76 million.

Sports history:

  • 1958 - Brazil beats Sweden 5-2 in soccer's 6th World Cup at Stockholm, Sweden.
  • 1986 - Boston Red Sox trade for Tom Seaver.
  • 1986 - Argentina defeats Federal Republic of Germany 3-2 to win the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
  • 1986 - Sparky Anderson is first to win 600 games as manager in both American baseball leagues.
  • 1990 - New York Mets tie their team career high 11 game win streak.
  • 2008 - Spain wins the Euro 2008 soccer championship defeating Germany 1-0.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Chicago White Sox by score 4-1.
  • 2022 - At Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Dodgers beats Colorado Rockies by score 8-4.
  • 2022 - At Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Chicago Cubs beats Cincinnati Reds by score 8-3.
  • 2022 - At Busch Stadium in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Miami Marlins beats Saint Louis Cardinals by score 4-3.
  • 2022 - At Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Cleveland Guardians beats Minnesota Twins by score 7-6.
  • 2022 - At Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Major League Baseball regular season game: Boston Red Sox beats Toronto Blue Jays by score 6-5.

  • 1899 - Brazo River in Texas, USA, floods 12 miles wide causing $10 million in damage.
  • 1975 - 20.57 cm (8.10 inches) of rainfall, Litchville, North Dakota (state 24-hour record).
  • 1994 - In Charlotte Pass, New South Wales, an Australian record cold temperature of -9.4 degrees F is recorded.

USA history:

  • 1776 - Virginia state constitution is adopted and Patrick Henry is made governor.
  • 1862 - Day five of the Seven Days - Battle of Savage's Station.
  • 1863 - Very first First National Bank opens in Davenport, Iowa.
  • 1863 - Confederate General Robert Lee orders his forces to concentrate near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
  • 1864 - Grand Trunk Railway accident; 100 killed.
  • 1898 - In Near Islands, Alaska, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurs.

  • 1988 - The United States Supreme Court upholds the law allowing special prosecutors to investigate suspected crimes by executive branch officials.
  • 1995 - American space shuttle Atlantis docks with the Russian space station Mir to form the largest man-made satellite ever to orbit the Earth. This is the second time ships from two countries had linked up in space.
  • 2002 - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney serves as Acting President for two and a half hours, while President George W. Bush undergoes a colonoscopy procedure.
  • 2003 - Thirteen are killed in a porch collapse in Chicago, Illinois.
  • 2007 - Apple's new iPhone is released in the USA.
  • 2009 - Bernard Madoff is sentenced to 150 years in prison for "extraordinarily evil" crimes in Wall Street's biggest and most brazen investment fraud.
  • 2010 - The S&P 500 stock market index drops to its lowest level in eight months, 1050.47. The Dow Jones industrial average loses 268.22 points, or 2.65 percent, to 9,870.30. The Nasdaq Composite Index drops 85.47 points, or 3.85 percent, to 2,135.18.
