Personal computer history:

  • 2001 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. A personal computer appears, with program called "PhotoWiz", a spoof of Photoshop.
  • 2004 - Intel releases the Pentium 4 520, 530, 540, 550, and 560 with speeds 2.8, 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, and 3.6 GHz respectively. The processors feature 1 MB cache and 800 MHz front-side bus. Prices are US$178, US$218, US$278, US$417, and US$637, respectively, in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2005 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the 2.8 GHz AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 processor. The chip includes 1 MB of level 2 cache. Price is US$1031 in quantities of 1000.
  • 2005 - Intel releases the 3.2 GHz Celeron D 351 processor. It features EM64T 64-bit technology, 256 kB cache, and 533 MHz system bus. Price is US$127 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2005 - Intel announces the 3.2 GHz Celeron D 350 processor. It features 256 kB cache, and 533 MHz system bus. Price is US$73 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2005 - Advanced Micro Devices files an antitrust lawsuit against Intel, claiming the company used scare tactics and coercion on 38 companies to not use AMD processors.
  • 2008 - Last official day for Bill Gates at Microsoft.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - Film Booking Offices releases the Alice Comedy film Alice in the Klondike to theaters.
  • 1930 - The Silly Symphony film Arctic Antics is released to theaters.
  • 1952 - The Goofy film Teachers are People is released.
  • 1979 - Buena Vista releases the live-action feature film The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again to theaters. The film is a sequel to the 1975 film The Apple Dumpling Gang.
  • 1985 - Disney and Metro-Golywyn-Mayer/United Artists sign a 31-page, 20-year agreement, giving Disney the exclusive rights to use most of the MGM/UA film studio's movies, for a yearly US$100,000 licensing fee.
  • 1986 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Ruthless People to theaters in the US.
  • 1986 - The Big Thunder Ranch attraction opens in Frontierland at Disneyland.
  • 1987 - The ABC TV network airs the final Sidekicks show.
  • 1990 - Merrill Lynch begins selling up to US$2.25 billion convertible bonds for the Walt Disney Company, the largest such issue in US history. The bond issue is to raise funds for building Euro Disneyland in France.
  • 1990 - The NBC TV network air the final Singer & Sons show.
  • 1991 - The Mickey's Mart store in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 1997 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film Hercules to theaters in the USA.
  • 2008 - Disney announces it will close all six Pleasure Island clubs, to be replaced by other shopping and dining options.
  • 2008 - Disney releases the Disney-Pixar computer-animated feature film Wall-E to theaters in the US and Canada.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1973 - The film Live and Let Die is released to theaters in the US. A recent Corvette appears, with fenders like those of an Eldorado car.
  • 1982 - At the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, the CRC Chemicals Trans-Am Championship - Round 4 race is held.
    • Finishing 2nd is the Full-Time Racing #99 Corvette, driven by Phil Currin.
    • Finishing 7th is the Euro-Petroleum #9 Corvette, driven by Jerry Brassfield.
    • In 20th place, but not finishing the race, is the Rick Stark Enterprises #17 Corvette, driven by Rick Stark.
    • In 21st place, but not finishing the race, is the Merritt Tire #79 Corvette, driven by Larry Park.
    • In 24th place, but not finishing the race, is the Neo-Life #6 Corvette, driven by Greg Pickett.
    • In 27th place, but not finishing the race, is the Executive Motorhome/Huffaker #24 Corvette, driven by Tom Frank.
    • In 28th place, but not finishing the race, is the Technequip #47 Corvette, driven by Wayne Harper.

  • 1986 - At the Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, Ohio, the Quaker State Oil's Longest Day of Nelson '86, 7th annual 24-Hour Endurance Race for Showroom Production Cars is held, over three days.
    • Finishing 1st is the Morrison-Cook #98 Corvette, driven by Don Knowles, John Heinricy, and Bob McConnell.
    • Finishing 2nd is the Corvette driven by Bill Cooper, Parker Johnstone, Andy Pilgrim, and Ron Nelson.

  • 1991 - At the McLean County Fairgrounds in Bloomington, Illinois, the Bloomington Gold / Corvettes USA show is held, over four days. 31,430 spectators and about 6,000 Corvettes attend. The Benchmark award is added, for Bloomington Gold-certified and Survivor class Corvettes.
  • 1993 - At the Watkins Glen International raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, the IMSA Camel Continental X race is held.
    • Finishing 1st in GTI class is the Morrison Racing #94 Corvette ZR-1, driven by John Heinricy and Andy Pilgrim.
    • Finishing 3rd in GTI class is the Morrison Racing #93 Corvette ZR-1, driven by Jim Minneker and Del Percilla.

  • 1996 - The 24th annual Bloomington Gold / Corvettes USA three-day event begins. Over 1200 Corvettes attend, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois. About 45,000 people attend.
  • 2002 - At the National Corvette Museum, the Historic Motorama / Corvette 50th Anniversary Kickoff is held, over four days.
  • 2003 - In Nashville, Tennessee, General Motors holds the Official Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration, over two days. About 10,000 Corvettes and 18,000 people attend. Special cars on hand include the Tiger Shark, XP-880 Astro II, 1963 Monza SS, Astro I, 1969 aluminum Reynolds Corvette EXP 040, 1973 Aerovette, CERV III, CERV IV, C5-R #50 Le Mans race car, LT1 Spyder Concept, ASC Sting Ray III, and Corvette SS. A raffle draw for the unique 2003 Gold Power Corvette is won by Anthony Yarnell of Cumming, Georgia. A raffle draw for a Dale Earnhardt Edition 2003 Z06E is won by Dale Edwards of Grand Blanc, Michigan. The two raffles raised $700,000 for National Corvette Museum.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. In a scene in 1972, a car looking very much like a 1968-69 Corvette appears.
  • 2004 - At the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, the Trans-Am 100 race is held, round three of the Motorock Trans-Am Series.
    • Finishing 3rd is the Derhaag Motorsports #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.
    • Finishing 5th is the #06 Corvette, driven by Joey Scarallo.
    • Finishing 12th is the Simms Motorsports #24 Corvette, driven by Philip Simms.
    • In 13th place, but not finishing the race, is the Hypermax Engineering #83 Corvette, driven by Max Lagod.

  • 2004 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, round three of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship series is held.
    • Finishing 5th is the #28 Corvette Z06, driven by Lou Gigliotti.
    • Finishing 11th is the Black Dog Racing #34 Corvette Z06, driven by Tony Gaples.
    • Finishing 12th is the Tiger Racing #99 Corvette Z06, driven by Thomas Oates.
    • Finishing 22nd is the Banner Engineering #6 Corvette Z06, driven by Leighton Reese.
    • Finishing 24th is the #67 Corvette Z06, driven by Kevin Chambers.
    • In 27th place, but not finishing the race, is the Doug Rippie Motorsport #9 Corvette, driven by Adam Malmquist.

  • 2021 - At the Watkins Glen International raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, USA, the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen race is held, round 5 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 11th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 4th in GT Le Mans class and 14th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C8.R driven by Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy.

World War II history:

  • 1941 - German forces reach Minsk, Russia.
  • 1941 - (evening) 108 British bombers attack Bremen. Fourteen do not return.
  • 1942 - Convoy PQ-17 sails from Reykjavik, Iceland, headed to Murmansk, Russia. The convoy of 33 ships and a tanker is escorted by six destroyers, two anti-aircraft ships, four corvettes, three minesweepers, and two submarines.
  • 1943 - The British Chiefs of Staff circulate the paper "German Long-Range Rocket: Evidence Received from All Sources", concluding that German rocket development is taking place at Peenemünde, with manufacturing to start soon in the nearby factory area.
  • 1944 - The German garrison at Cherbourg destroys the port facilities and surrenders. 6000 soldiers are taken prisoner.
  • 1970 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 25th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camps.
  • 2005 - Fiji issues ten postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 2005 - MTV and Midway announce a collaboration for three upcoming games. The two companies will jointly market the games and work on in-game advertising on a royalty-sharing basis.
  • 2011 - The US Supreme Court rules 7-2 that California's law restricting sale or rental of violent video games is unconstitutional.

Swedish history:

  • 1905 - At the riksdag meeting, the entire current government ministry is dismissed, replaced by a national coalition government under representation of Christian Lundeberg.
  • 1947 - In Ottawa, Canada, Sweden and Canada sign an agreement for civil air services between the two countries.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1989 - The Royal Canadian Mint begins striking 1990-dated coins for circulation, with the new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Canadian Dora de Pedery-Hunt. Circulating dollar coins are the first struck.

USA coin history:

  • 1793 - The Philadelphia Mint resumes production of cents.

Sports history:

  • 1876 - First National League member to get six hits in 9-inning game (Dave Force, Philadelphia Athletics).
  • 1939 - First night game at Cleveland Municipal Stadium (Cleveland Indians 5, Detroit Tigers 0).
  • 1939 - Brooklyn Dodgers tie Boston Bees, 2-2, in 23 innings.
  • 1956 - Cleveland Indians trailing Baltimore Orioles 9-1 come back to win 12-11 in 11 innings.
  • 1958 - Billy Pierce's perfect game bid broken with two outs in 9th.
  • 1966 - 4th Mayor's Trophy Game; New York Yankees beat New York Mets 5-2.
  • 1978 - Henry Rono of Kenya sets record for 3000m, 7:32.1.
  • 1980 - Brooklyn Dodgers' Jerry Reuss' no-hits San Francisco Giants 8-0.
  • 1982 - The Atlanta Braves tie a major league mark with seven double plays as the team defeats the Cincinnati Reds, 2-0.
  • 1984 - France beats Spain 2-0 to win the Euro 84.
  • 1984 - US Supreme Court ends NCAA monopoly on college football telecasts.
  • 1986 - Anne White shocks Wimbeldon by wearing only a body stocking.
  • 1986 - Robby Thompson (San Francisco Giants) sets record, caught stealing bases four times in one game.
  • 1988 - Mike Tyson knocks out Michael Spink in 91 seconds, in Atlantic City (US$67 million).
  • 1990 - José Canseco signs record $4,700,000 per year Oakland Athletics contract.
  • 2009 - In Assen, Netherlands, round 7 of the FIM MotoGP Championship is won by Valentino Rossi.
