Personal computer history:

  • 1997 - Steve Jobs sells 1.5 million shares of Apple Computer stock for about $15 per share, total $15-22 million. This is the stock that he received in December as part of Apple Computer's purchase of his NeXT Software. The value of Apple Computer's stock drops to an 11-year low.
  • 2000 - Intel launches 633, 667, and 700 MHz Celeron processors. Prices are US$138, US$170, US$192 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2000 - Advanced Micro Devices unveils 550 and 533 MHz K6-2+ processors for notebook computers. Prices are US$85 and US$99 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2003 - Apple Computer releases updated Power Mac G4 computers. They feature single or dual 1.25 GHz G4 processors, single 80 GB to dual 160 GB hard drives.
  • 2003 - Microsoft releases Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. New features include support for USB 2.0 and wireless Internet connections.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1930 - Disney completes the Silly Symphony film Arctic Antics.
  • 1952 - RKO Radio Pictures releases the True-Life Adventure film Water Birds to theaters. It was made in cooperation with the National Audubon Society and the Denver Museum of Natural History.
  • 1952 - RKO Radio Pictures releases Disney's live-action feature film The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men to theaters. The film was made in England.
  • 1956 - The Rainbow Mountain Stage Coaches attraction begins operation in Frontierland at Disneyland.
  • 1956 - The Mule Pack ride at Disneyland reopens as the Rainbow Ridge Pack Mules.
  • 1957 - The Viewliner Train of Tomorrow begins operation in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 1959 - Disney releases the Donald Duck film Donald in Mathmagic Land to theaters.
  • 1959 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film Darby O'Gill and the Little People to theaters in the United States. The film is based on the Darby O'Gill stories by H.T. Kavanagh.
  • 1968 - Buena Vista releases the live-action feature film Never A Dull Moment to theaters.
  • 1987 - The CBS TV network airs Mickey and Nora, a pilot for a series.
  • 1989 - The Delta Dreamflight attraction opens in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It is sponsored by Delta Air Lines, and replaces the If You Could Fly attraction.
  • 1992 - French farmers park 300 tractors across highway entrances to Euro Disneyland, to protest American demands for European Community subsidy cuts.
  • 1993 - The Disney Channel begins airing the TV serial Emerald Cove on the Mickey Mouse Club TV series.
  • 2006 - The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction re-opens with updates from the films.
  • 2015 - The Disney Channel premieres the TV show Best Friends Whenever.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1960 - At Pomona, California, a Cal Club Regional B Production race is held.
    • Finishing 1st is the #58 Corvette driven by Tony Settember.
    • Finishing 2nd is the #614 Corvette driven by Buford Lane.
    • Finishing 3rd is the #222 Corvette driven by Vince Mayell.

  • 1977 - At the Nelson Ledges Road Course, in Warren, Ohio, the First National City Travelers Checks Trans-Am Championship - Round 4 race is held.
    • Finishing 5th in category II and 8th overall is the L&L Racing Enterprises #64 Corvette 350, driven by Jerry Lancaster.
    • Finishing 4th in category I and 9th overall is the Little Foreign Car Shop #93 Corvette 427, driven by Michael Oleyar.
    • Finishing 6th in category I and 13th overall is the Midwest Speed #82 Corvette 454, driven by Leonard Janke.
    • Finishing 7th in category I and 14th overall is the Automotive Interests #71 Corvette, driven by Charles West.

  • 1983 - At the Seattle International Raceway in Seattle, Washington, the SCCA Budweiser Trans-Am Championship - Round 5 race is held.
    • Finishing 6th is the Merritt Tire & Brake #79 Corvette, driven by Larry Park.
    • Finishing 10th is the B.C. Auto Body #41 Corvette, driven by Bill Craine.
    • Finishing 12th is the Rick Stark Enterprises #17 Corvette, driven by Rick Stark.

  • 1994 - The first C5 (1997 model) alpha test car rolls out of the assembly room. Build chief John Fehlberg has the honor of being the first C5 driver.
  • 1997 - (to June 27) In Bloomington, Illinois, the 25th annual Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA show is held. 2500 Corvettes are present. A 1998 Corvette is won from a donation. The Hall of Fame display includes CERV I, Grand Sports #001 and #003, 1963 Daytona race Corvette, Sting Ray racer, Corvette SR-2, Corvette SS, and 1967 coupe that raced at Le Mans. At the auction, 98 Corvettes are presented, with 30 being sold. Some highlights:
    • 1957 Cascade Green, fuel-injected 283ci/225hp, automatic, US$66,500;
    • 1966 convertible, 427ci/390hp, two tops, air conditioning, US$35,000;
    • 1967 coupe, 427ci/435hp, side exhausts, US$51,000;
    • 1969 Monaco Orange coupe, 427ci/430hp L88, US$75,000.
    • A 1989 ZR-1 prototype, one of two existing, is bid to US$74,000 but not sold.

  • 2000 - The last 2000 model Corvette rolls of the production line.
  • 2003 - About 30,000 people and 2200 Corvettes attend the show.
  • 2005 - At the Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, Ohio, the 24th Annual Champ Car Grand Prix race is held, round five of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT series.
    • Finishing 4th is the Banner Engineering #6 Corvette C6, driven by Leighton Reese.
    • Finishing 9th is the Blackdog Racing #34 Corvette C6, driven by Tony Gaples.
    • Finishing 13th is the Whelen Engineering #31 Corvette Z06, driven by Sonny Whelen.
    • Finishing 14th is the Tom Oates Chevrolet #99 Corvette Z06, driven by Tom Oates.
    • Finishing 16th is the Doug Rippie Motorsports #9 Corvette Z06, driven by Adam Malmquist.
    • In 24th place, but not finishing the race, is the Flying Tiger Racing #47 Corvette Z06, driven by Bob Taylor.

  • 2022 - At the Watkins Glen International raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, USA, the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen race is held, round 7 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series. Finishing 3rd in GTD Pro class and 29th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.

World War II history:

  • 1941 - The German 163rd Infantry Division begins a train crossing of Sweden into Finland.
  • 1942 - In North Africa, German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel attacks Mersa Matruh with three weak divisions of forty tanks, 2500 motorized German infantry, and 6000 Italian infantry.
  • 1942 - The United States 82nd Motorized Infantry Division is converted to an airborne unit.
  • 1944 - British bombers attack San Marino in the mistaken belief that German forces had taken refuge there.
  • 1944 - British forces in France east of Caen begin Operation Epsom, attempting to break through the German front line.
  • 2005 - British Indian Ocean Territory issues ten postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.
  • 2006 - The Solomon Islands issues three postage stamps marking the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross, depicting the awarding of Crosses to Fijian and Australian infantrymen for duties at Bougainville in 1994/45.

Video game history:

  • 1983 - Fisher-Price Toys announces it has cancelled plans to expand into video games.
  • 2000 - Nintendo releases the Kirby 64 - The Crystal Shards video game for the Nintendo 64 in the US.
  • 2003 - Nintendo releases the Wario World video game for the GameCube in the US. Price is US$49.99.
  • 2007 - Nintendo releases the Pokémon Battle Revolution video game for the Nintendo Wii in the USA.
  • 2007 - Eidos Interactive releases the Tomb Raider: Anniversary video game for the PlayStation Portable in the US.
  • 2007 - Square Enix releases the Final Fantasy: Anniversary Edition video game for the PlayStation Portable in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1630 - Sweden enters the German wars, as King Gustav Adolf and 13,000 men land on the island of Usedom off the Pomeranian coast (Poland). His force is comprised of mostly Swedes, with some Scottish and Irish mercenaries. The reasons for entering the war are many, but principally to remove Imperial intervention in Poland.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1989 - The effigy of Queen Elizabeth II for all coins is updated (for 1990), showing a portrait designed by a Canadian, for the first time.
  • 2004 - In Toronto, Ontario, the Torex Coin Show and Auction is held, over two days. Moore Numismatic Auctions conducts the auction. A 1926 far '6' 5-cent coin PCGS MS-65 finest known sells for $16,100.
  • 2004 - In Bayside, New Brunswick, the Royal Canadian Mint unveils a 2004 circulating 25-cent coin, commemorating the 400th anniversary of European settlement of St. Croix Island. The coin depicts a 17th century sailing ship, designed by Robert-Ralph Carmichael.

USA coin history:

  • 1936 - Congress authorizes change of design or one additional reverse design for the 1936 Arkansas Centennial commemorative half dollar program.
  • 1936 - Congress authorizes 1936 York County, Maine, Tercentenary commemorative half dollar.
  • 1936 - Congress authorizes 1936 San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge commemorative half dollar.
  • 1994 - Philip N. Diehl begins term as US Mint Director.
  • 2008 - Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming introduces S. 3214 proposing a series of 56 quarter dollar coins with national park designs.
  • 2008 - (to June 27) Heritage Numismatic Auctions conducts the auction at the Summer FUN Convention in West Palm Beach, Florida. Some highlights:
    • $4 1880 Flowing Hair Stella pattern, PR-64 PCGS: US$431,250.

  • 2012 - The US Mint launches the 2012 Acadia National Park quarter dollar at Acadian National Park, Maine.

Sports history:

  • 1916 - Cleveland Indians experiment with numbers on their baseball jerseys (one game).
  • 1959 - Ingemar Johansson of Sweden defeats Floyd Patterson as boxing champ.
  • 1962 - Boston Red Sox player Earl Wilson no-hits Los Angeles Angels, 2-0.
  • 1970 - Frank Robinson hits two grand slams as Baltimore Orioles beat Washington Senators 12-2.
  • 1985 - At Jack Russell Stadium, organist Wilbur Snapp is ejected by umpire Keith O'Connor from a Class A Florida League game for playing Three Blind Mice following a close call which goes against the Clearwater Phillies.
  • 1987 - Losing 9-0 to Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees score 11 in third and win 12-11 in ten innings.
  • 1992 - Denmark beats Germany 2-0 in soccer to win Euro 92 at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • 2007 - (to July 15) The Copa América 2007 soccer tournament takes place in Venezuela.
  • 2022 - At Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Dodgers beats Atlanta Braves by score 5-3.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Philadelphia Phillies beats San Diego Padres by score 8-5.
  • 2022 - At Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Arizona Diamondbacks beats Detroit Tigers by score 11-7.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Seattle Mariners by score 2-1.

  • 1902 - M Wolf and L Carnera discovers asteroid #488 Kreusa.
  • 1936 - L Boyer discovers asteroid #2021 Poincare.
  • 1949 - Walter Baade discovers asteroid Icarus inside orbit of Mercury.
  • 1958 - Vanguard SLV-2 launched for Earth orbit (failed).
  • 1982 - A Gilmore and P Kilmartin discover asteroid #3521.

USA history:

  • 1862 - Battle of Beaver Dam Creek - USA repulse Confederacy in Virginia.
  • 1862 - Day two of the Seven Days - Battle of Mechanicsville.
  • 1870 - First section of Atlantic City (New Jersey) Boardwalk opens.
  • 1878 - Land for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing facility is purchased for US$27,500.
  • 1896 - First cinemaopens, the 400-seat Vitascope Hall in New Orleans, Louisiana. Admission is 10 cents. The cinema uses Thomas Edison's Vitascope projector.
  • 1917 - First American Expeditionary Force arrives in France.
  • 1919 - First issue of New York Daily News published.
  • 1924 - After 8 years of occupation, US troops leave the Dominican Republic.
  • 1927 - The Cyclone roller coaster opens on Coney Island, New York, USA.
  • 1934 - President Franklin Roosevelt signs Federal Credit Union Act establishing credit unions.
  • 1945 - United Nations Charter signed by 50 nations in San Francisco, California, USA.
  • 1948 - William Shockley files the original patent for the grown junction transistor, the first bipolar junction transistor.
  • 1948 - US denounces Soviet blockade of Berlin.
  • 1948 - U.S. and British pilots begin delivering food and supplies by airplane to West Berlin after the city is isolated by a Soviet Union blockade.
  • 1958 - Vanguard SLV-2 launched for Earth orbit (failed).
  • 1959 - Queen Elizabeth II and US President Dwight Eisenhower open the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
  • 1963 - USA President John F. Kennedy speaks the famous words "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a Berliner) on a visit to West Berlin.
  • 1968 - Iwo Jima and Bonin Islands returned to Japan by US.
  • 1974 - The Universal Product Code is scanned for the first time, to sell a pack of chewing gum in Ohio.
  • 1977 - 42 die in fire that inmate causes at Maury County Jail in Columbia, Tennessee.
  • 1982 - US vetos United Nations Security Council resolution for a limited withdrawal from Lebanon.
  • 1985 - Walt Disney World Resort Monorail Gold catches fire on the EPCOT beam around 9:00pm due to friction from a flat tire.
  • 1985 - In Hartford, Connecticut, USA a 1,500-pound slab of ice, six feet long and eight inches thick, falls from the sky flattening a picket fence, shaking the ground with the impact.
  • 1989 - In Hawaii, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurs. Two events about 5 seconds apart. Five people injured slightly, 5 homes destroyed and about 100 homes damaged.
  • 1990 - U.S. President George H.W Bush breaks his 1988 'no new taxes' campaign pledge, accepting tax revenue increases as a necessity to reduce the budget deficit.
  • 1994 - Philip N. Diehl begins term as US Mint Director.
  • 2003 - The U.S. Supreme Court declares sodomy laws unconstitutional.
  • 2008 - The U.S. Senate approves US$161.8 billion in new funds to continue fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for the next year.
  • 2008 - The US Supreme Court overturns District of Columbia's handgun ban, asserting that individuals have the right to own guns.
  • 2008 - Shares of General Motors Corporation drop to their lowest level since 1955, after Goldman Sachs gives the stock a "sell" rating.
  • 2009 - The US House of Representatives passes the American Clean Energy and Security Act climate change bill, including cap and trade plan.

Other history:
