Personal computer history:

  • 1995 - Microsoft representatives meet with Netscape Communications representatives, requesting that Netscape not compete with Microsoft in areas of the Web browser market. Microsoft offers to invest in Netscape and receive a seat on the board of directors. Jim Clark refuses, and calls lawyer Gary Reback, who then contacts Joel Klein, lawyer in the antitrust division of the Department of Justice.
  • 2000 - Compaq Computer launches new Presario 5000 and 7000 desktop computers and Presario 1400 and 1700 portables, available in colored cases: smokey quartz, emerald green, ruby red, amber orange, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple.
  • 2000 - Sun Microsystems releases StarOffice 5.2 software suite for Windows, Linux, and Solaris. The package can be downloaded for free.
  • 2000 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. A personal computer appears, used to find friends on the Internet.
  • 2004 - OpenOffice.org releases version 1.1.2 of OpenOffice productivity software.
  • 2005 - EA Games releases the Battlefield 2 game for personal computers in the US.
  • 2007 - Tunisia issues a 600m postage stamp for the Carthage Investment Forum, depicting a personal computer.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1926 - Disney ships the 36th Alice Comedy film, Alice Helps the Romance, to M.J. Winkler Productions.
  • 1930 - The Silly Symphony film Frolicking Fish is released to theaters.
  • 1961 - Disney releases the Donald Duck film Donald and the Wheel to theaters.
  • 1961 - Disney releases the Donald Duck film The Litterbug to theaters.
  • 1961 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film The Parent Trap to theaters. The film is based on the book Das Doppelte Lottchen by Erich Kastner.
  • 1967 - Disney releases the live-action short film The Legend of the Boy and the Eagle to theaters.
  • 1984 - Stanley Gold and Mark Siegel meet with Ray Watson and Ron Miller at Disney's Burbank studio, to discuss getting Roy Disney and others onto the board of directors. No decision is reached.
  • 1985 - Buena Vista releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film Return to Oz to theaters in the US. It cost US$25 million to make. The film includes some clay animation produced by Will Vinton Productions.
  • 1988 - Radio City Music Hall in New York City premieres the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.
  • 1989 - Walt Disney World welcomes its 300-millionth guest, Matt Gleason.
  • 1990 - Grenada issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters and British trains.
  • 1991 - Buena Vista releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film The Rocketeer to theaters in the US.
  • 1991 - The Celebration U.S.A.! parade debuts at Disneyland.
  • 1996 - The Disney Villains Store in Disneyland closes.
  • 1996 - The Quasimodo's Attic shop opens in Fantasyland at Disneyland.
  • 1996 - Buena Vista Pictures generally releases the Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film The Hunchback of Notre Dame to theaters in the US and Canada.
  • 1996 - The name of the Big Thunder Barbecue at Disneyland is changed to Festival of Foods.
  • 2002 - Disney generally releases the Walt Disney Pictures animated film Lilo & Stitch to theaters in the USA.
  • 2006 - The Republic of China issues four postage stamps depicting Winnie the Pooh and friends.
  • 2008 - The ABC TV network airs the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock.
  • 2013 - Disney releases the animated short The Blue Umbrella to theaters in the USA.
  • 2013 - Disney/Pixar's Monsters University animated feature is released to theaters in the USA.
  • 2022 - Over 1700 Walt Disney World cast members mark International Yoga Day at the park.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1972 - Reynolds Metals Company delivers to Chevrolet Engineering an aluminum body for the XP-895 Corvette. The aluminum body is 33% lighter than the steel body, 438 pounds versus 654 pounds. Chevrolet Engineering replaces its steel body with the new body, with the resulting vehicle weighing 3008 pounds versus 3525 pounds.
  • 1975 - At the Bloomington - Normal airport in Illinois, the Bloomington Corvette Corral show is held, over two days. 1200 Corvettes attend the show. 100 Corvette are presented at auction, the first major all-Corvette auction in the US. A 1954 roadster sells for US$2525; a 1971 sells for US$7550.
  • 1990 - At the McLean County Fairgrounds in Bloomington, Illinois, the Bloomington Gold / Corvettes USA show is held, over four days. 154 1965 Corvettes are included in the Silver Salute. 113 of 151 Corvettes judged are awarded Gold Certification. New judging class for this year is the Survivor award for well-kept but unrestored Corvettes. The Special Collection VII is titled "The Challengers - Corvette vs. The World". Auction highlights:
    • 1965 convertible with fuel-injection US$65,000;
    • 1966 coupe with 327-ci 350-hp engine US$30,000;
    • 1968 copper bronze L-89 convertible US$40,000.

  • 1996 - The last Corvette of the fourth-generation "C4" body style (used since 1984) is produced. 368,180 cars were produced since 1984. The car is bought by Mike Yager, owner of Mid America Designs, for his museum in Illinois.
  • 2001 - The 29th Bloomington Gold / Corvettes USA show is held, over four days. The Special Collection is a salute to Corvette Power. A new honor is the Historic Award, with four Corvettes receiving the award this year.
  • 2003 - At the Watkins Glen International raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, The Glen Grand Sport 250 race is held, round six of the Grand-Am Cup series.
    • Finishing 7th in GS I class and 7th overall is the Powell Motorsport #02 Corvette Z06, driven by Mike Weinberg and Jeff Altenburg.
    • Finishing 9th in GS I class and 15th overall is the Powell Motorsport #11 Corvette Z06, driven by Devon Powell and Doug Goad.
    • Finishing 12th in GS I class and 29th overall is the Silverstone Racing Services #39 Corvette, driven by Larry Huang and Chris Hall.

  • 2003 - Dominica issues five postage stamps to mark the 50th anniversary of the Corvette. $2 stamps depict 1953, 1956, 1957, 1962 models. $5 stamp depicts a 1959 model.
  • 2008 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course the EMCO Gears Classic Mid-Ohio race is held, round 8 of the Grand-American Road Racing Championship.
    • Finishing 6th in GT class and 17th overall is Nonnamaker/Nonnamaker in the #43 Team Sahlen Corvette.
    • Finishing 17th in GT class and 31st overall is Sahlen/Nonnamaker in the #42 Team Sahlen Corvette.

World War II history:

  • 1942 - German General Erwin Rommel's army captures Tobruk in Libya, capturing 30-35,000 prisoners, millions of gallons of fuel, 5000 tons of food, 400 artillery pieces, 2000 vehicles, and a huge stockpile of ammunition.
  • 1942 - German Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt orders that any Allied paratroops captured by German forces are not to be treated as prisonders of war, but instead immediately turned over to the Gestapo.
  • 1943 - Adolf Hitler orders Operation Citadel to commence July 3.
  • 1943 - Gestapo policemen raid a doctor's surgery at Caluire near Lyons, France. They capture Resistance leaders including president of National Resistance Council Jean Moulin.
  • 1943 - (evening) 705 British bombers attack Krefeld, Germany, west of the Rhine river. Half of the town is set afire, and 72,000 people are made homeless.
  • 1971 - The USSR issues a postage stamp marking the 30th anniversary of the defence of Libau against Germany.
  • 1995 - Greece issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.
  • 1995 - Singapore issues four postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.
  • 2000 - Saint Pierre and Miquelon issues two postage stamps depicting scenes of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1983 - In the Netherlands, Philips N.V. and Thomson-Brandt S.A. agree to cooperate to produce video game systems and cassettes.
  • 2000 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. A video game system looking the Intellivision appears.
  • 2004 - Atari releases the Driver 3 video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the USA.
  • 2004 - Nintendo begins releasing Game Boy Advance Video cartridges with up to 90 minutes of animated television shows. First cartridges are for 30 minute Pokemon shows.
  • 2005 - THQ releases the Destroy All Humans video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2011 - Warner Bros. Interactive releases the F.E.A.R. 3 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Electronic Arts releases the Shadow of the Damned video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1634 - The remains of King Gustav Adolf are laid to rest in Riddarholm church at Stockholm.
  • 1661 - Sweden signs the Treaty of Kardis, in which Russia agrees to return to Sweden areas it had conquered in the Baltic lands.

A&W Root Beer history:

  • 1919 - Roy Allen opens his root beer stand in Lodi, California, for business, selling 10-ounce glasses of root beer for 5 cents.
  • 2004 - A & W Restaurants in the US celebrates its 85th anniversary and the first day of summer with a National Float Day. Participating restaurants give away a free A & W Root Beer Float with any purchase from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sports history:

  • 1900 - Brooklyn Dodgers score 7 in top of 11th to go ahead of Philadelphia Phillies, 20-13; in bottom of 11th Phillies stall so umpire forfeits game to Dodgers.
  • 1916 - Boston Red Sox pitcher Rube Forster no-hits New York Yankees, 2-0.
  • 1930 - Babe Ruth hits three home runs as New York Yankees blow 6-0 lead in 7th and lose 15-7.
  • 1937 - The BBC televises coverage of the Wimbledon tennis Championships for the first time.
  • 1939 - Doctors reveal Lou Gehrig has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
  • 1954 - John Landy beats Roger Bannister's mile record by 0.014 seconds.
  • 1970 - Brazil wins last Jules Rimet Trophy soccer championship.
  • 1988 - Los Angeles Lakers beats Detroit Pistons, for the NBA championship.
  • 1991 - New York Islanders Denis Potvan and Michael Bossy inducted into NHL Hall of Fame.
  • 2009 - Three-year-old colt "Eye of the Leopard" wins the 150th running of the Queen's Plate horse race in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
  • 2009 - Peugeot finishes first and second in the Le Mans 24-hour car race.
  • 2009 - In Silverstone, Great Britain, round 8 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Sebastian Vettel.
  • 2009 - In Brno, Czech Republic, round 6 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship is held. Race 1 is won by Alex Zanardi; race 2 is won by Sergio Hernández.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Seattle Mariners beats Oakland Athletics by score 8-2.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Diego Padres beats Arizona Diamondbacks by score 3-2.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Kansas City Royals beats Los Angeles Angels by score 12-11.
  • 2022 - At Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Chicago White Sox beats Toronto Blue Jays by score 7-6.
  • 2022 - At American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Saint Louis Cardinals beats Milwaukee Brewers by score 6-2.
  • 2022 - At Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Houston Astros beats New York Mets by score 8-2.
  • 2022 - At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Texas Rangers beats Philadelphia Phillies by score 7-0.

  • 2022 - At Great America Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Dodgers beats Cincinnati Reds by score 8-2.
  • 2022 - At LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, USA , Major League Baseball regular season game: Miami Marlins beats Colorado Rockies by score 9-8.

Space exploration history:

  • 1975 - Soyuz 19 returns to Earth.
  • 2004 - Aftr taking off from Mohave, California, the White Knight carrier plane launches SpaceShipOne rocket plane, which flies into space (62 miles high) and back. This is the first privately-funded spaceplane to achieve spaceflight.
  • 2005 - A Volna booster rocket carrying the first light sail spacecraft (a joint Russian-American project) fails 83 seconds after its launch, destroying the spacecraft.
  • 2020 - An annular solar eclipse occurs.

Extreme weather history:

  • 1942 - 129 degrees F (54 degrees C), Tirat Zevi, Israel (Asian record).

USA history:

  • 1788 - US Constitution goes into effect as New Hampshire is 9th state to ratify it.
  • 1805 - Great Stoneface Mount found in New Hampshire, USA.
  • 1821 - African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AMEZ) Church organizes (New York City).
  • 1841 - US Senate begins filibuster to forestall debate on establishment of a national bank.
  • 1879 - F W Woolworth opens his first store in the US (which fails almost immediately).
  • 1893 - First Ferris wheel premieres (Chicago's Columbian Exposition).
  • 1894 - Workers in Pittsburgh strike the Pullman sleeping car company.
  • 1933 - First Great Lakes-to-Gulf of Mexico barge trip completed, New Orleans.
  • 1943 - Federal troops put down racial riot in Detroit, Michigan; 30 dead.

  • 1989 - US Supreme Court rules it is okay to burn US flag as political expression.
  • 1989 - Walt Disney World welcomes its 300-millionth guest, Matt Gleason.
  • 1990 - New York City's Zodiac killer shoots fourth victim, Larry Parham.
  • 1990 - US House of Representatives vote 254-177 to stop US flag burning, doesn't pass Senate.
  • 1997 - At over 500 McDonald's locations in the United Kingdom and 30 in North America, picketers and protesters pass out leaflets about the controversies of McDonald's food and practices.
  • 2004 - Aftr taking off from Mohave, California, the White Knight carrier plane launches SpaceShipOne rocket plane, which flies into space (62 miles high) and back. This is the first privately-funded spaceplane to achieve spaceflight.

  • 1887 - Britain celebrates golden jubilee of Queen Victoria.

  • 2008 - The Princess of the Stars ferry capsizes off the Philippines in heavy seas, caught in Typhoon Fengshen. Over 800 people are killed, only 38 survive.
