Personal computer history:

  • 2000 - Advanced Micro Devices introduces the Duron processor, available in speeds of 600, 650 and 700 MHz. It features 3DNow! multimedia instruction set, 192 kB Level 1 cache, 200 MHz bus, 64 MB Level 2 cache, and 64-bit path to Level 2 cache. The processor incorporates 25 million transistors in 0.18 micron technology. Prices are US$112, US$154, and US$192 in 1000-unit quantities. Code-name during development was Spitfire.
  • 2000 - Intel releases 600 and 750 MHz mobile Pentium III processors. Prices are US$316 and US$562 each in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2000 - Intel releases 500, 600, and 650 MHz mobile Celeron processors. Prices are US$134, US$134, and US$181 each in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2000 - Microsoft releases the final version of Windows Me to computer manufacturers.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1940 - The "Mickey Mouse" comic strip is published containing a small swastika in the last panel of the strip.
  • 1957 - Disney releases the animated short film The Story of Anyburg, U.S.A. to theaters.
  • 1957 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film Johnny Tremain to theaters. The film is based on the novel by Esther Forbes. Walt Disney's daughter Sharon has a small part in the film.
  • 1957 - Disney releases the live-action short film The Wetback Hound to theaters.
  • 1958 - A fourth locomotive arrives at Disney's backlot, to be rebuilt and put into service at Disneyland. It was purchased in New Jersey for US$2000.
  • 1971 - Walt Disney World opens its own post office, with its own Zip Code: 32830.
  • 1985 - The Yumz food facility opens at the Videopolis in Fantasyland at Disneyland.
  • 1987 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film Not Quite Human.
  • 1987 - Buena Vista generally releases the film Benji the Hunted to theaters.
  • 1990 - The Gambia issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters visiting England.
  • 1991 - The TV show Rocketeer: Excitement in the Air airs in syndication.
  • 1992 - The World According to Goofy parade debuts at Disneyland.
  • 1992 - The Phantasticks Wagon shop opens in Tokyo Disneyland.
  • 1996 - Disney premieres the animated feature film The Hunchback of Notre Dame in New Orleans, Lousiana.
  • 1998 - Disney releases the Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film Mulan to theaters in the USA.
  • 1998 - Disney's Mulan Parade premieres in the Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World.
  • 1998 - The Animation Academy class opens at DisneyQuest at Walt Disney World.
  • 1999 - The Tarzan Treehouse attraction opens at Disneyland. The attraction was formerly the Swiss Family Treehouse.
  • 2015 - The film ABCD2 is released in India and the USA.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1993 - In Brookline, Massachusettes, the Museum of Transportation hosts a 40th birthday celebration for Corvette. Over 300 Corvettes and about 50,000 people attend.
  • 2004 - At the Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, the Albertsons 100 race is held, round two of the Motorock Trans-Am Series.
    • Finishing 4th is the Baucom Motorsports #06 Corvette, driven by Joey Scarallo.
    • Finishing 8th is the Hypermax Engineering #83 Corvette, driven by Max Lagod.
    • Finishing 9th is the Simms Motorsports #24 Corvette, driven by Philip Simms.
    • Finishing 12th is the Derhaag Motorsports #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - General Walther von Brauchitsch, Commander in chief of the German Army, sends letters to Adolf Hitler and Wilhelm Keitel, chief of Wehrmacht High Command, noting that provision of raw materials for Army armaments industry is unbearable, and could lead to a shutdown of production.
  • 1940 - Spain's Francisco Franco offers to join the Axis at war in exchange for French Morocco, Oran region of Algeria, expansion of Spanish Sahara and Spanish Guinea, and substantial economic and military provisions. Adolf Hitler makes no commitment.
  • 1940 - The Soviet Union installs puppet governments in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
  • 1940 - Thirty British Blenheim bombers raid German airfields at Rouen and Amiens. All aircraft return.
  • 1942 - Japanese submarine I-26 torpedoes and damages Canadian freighter Fort Camosun off Canada's west coast. Thirteen die.
  • 1943 - (evening) 290 British planes attack Le Creusot, damaging the Schneider arms plant and the Breuil steelworks. Two planes are shot down.
  • 1944 - The Battle of the Philippine Sea takes place, over two days. Allied ships sink three Japanese aircraft carriers, damage two more, and destroy 426 of 473 planes.
  • 1944 - In France, elements of the American 79th Division enter Negraville, Gladeville, and Bois de la Brigue.
  • 1994 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
  • 1995 - Tristan da Cunha issues postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1997 - The Electronic Entertainment Expo is held in Atlanta, Georgia, over three days. Total attendance is 37,100. Nintendo unveils the Banjo-Kazooie video game.
  • 2001 - Sega releases the Sonic Adventure 2 video game for the Dreamcast in the US.
  • 2007 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil 4 video game for the Nintendo Wii in the US.
  • 2011 - Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1628 - Stralsund successfully repels three days of assaults by Imperial forces.
  • 1976 - King Carl XVI Gustaf marries Silvia Sommerlath of Germany.
  • 2010 - Swedish Crown Princess Victoria (age 32) marries her former fitness trainer, 36-year-old commoner Daniel Westling in Stockholm Cathedral. As Crown Princess Victoria's husband, gym owner Westling assumes the title of Prince Daniel, Duke of Vastergotland.

A&W Root Beer history:

  • 1999 - A & W Restaurant in Lodi, California, creates a 2562.5-gallon root beer float, a record in the Guiness Book of Records. The first taste is auctioned for $1400, donated to charity, with free drinks supplied with the remainder.

USA coin history:

  • 1835 - The US government purchases the Jackson Square site for the future New Orleans Mint in Louisiana.
  • 1880 - Harpers Weekly publishes a full page illustration of "Coining Silver Dollars at the Philadelphia Mint".

Sports history:

  • 1846 - In Hoboken, New Jersey, USA, the first baseball game under recognizable modern rules is played (Cartwright Rules); New York Nines 23, Knickerbockers 1.
  • 1867 - First Belmont Stakes, Ruthless wins.
  • 1938 - Italy beats Hungary 4-1 in soccer's third World Cup at Paris, France.
  • 1943 - NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers merge, (dissolves on December 5).
  • 1946 - First TV sports spectacular-Joe Louis versus Billy Conn.
  • 1952 - Brooklyn Dodgers' Carl Erskine no-hits Chicago Cubs, 5-0.
  • 1955 - Mickey Mantle hits career home run number 100.
  • 1955 - Philadelphia Phillies beat Chicago Cubs 1-0 in 15 innings, ties longest shut out in Philadelphia Phillies history.
  • 1963 - Charter members of Canadian Football Hall of Fame are chosen.
  • 1973 - Pete Rose and Willie Davis both get career hit number 2,000.
  • 1974 - Kansas City Royals' Steve Busby second no-hitter, beats Milwaukee Brewers, 2-0.
  • 1977 - Boston Red Sox set three-game record of 16 home runs, all against New York Yankees.
  • 1978 - Cricketer Ian Botham becomes the first man in the history of the game to score a century and take 8 wickets in 1 inning of a Test match.
  • 1985 - Reggie Jackson hits his 513th home run to move into 10th place.
  • 1987 - Wee Willie Keeler's 44-game hitting streak ends.
  • 1999 - The Dallas Stars defeat the Buffalo Sabres in triple overtime of game six of the Stanley Cup Finals to win their first Stanley Cup. Brett Hull scores the controversial cup-winning goal to seal the victory.
  • 2000 - The Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Indiana Pacers 116-111 in Game 6 of the 2000 NBA Finals, winning the series.
  • 2006 - In the National Hockey League, the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Edmonton Oilers 4 games to 3 games to win the Stanley Cup.
  • 2010 - Scotland records their first southern hemisphere Rugby Union series win with a 13-9 victory over Argentina in Mar del Plata's Estadio Jose Maria Minella.
  • 2010 - Roberto Alomar, former Toronto Blue Jays second baseman, is inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Also inducted are former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Paul Quantrill, late Minnesota Twins' owner Calvin Griffith, and late statistician Allan Roth.
  • 2022 - At Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Houston Astros beats Chicago White Sox by score 4-3.
  • 2022 - At Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Arizona Diamondbacks beats Minnesota Twins by score 7-1.
  • 2022 - At Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Cleveland Guardians beats Los Angeles Dodgers by score 5-3.
  • 2022 - At T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Seattle Mariners by score 4-0.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Oakland Athletics beats Kansas City Royals by score 4-0.

  • 1970 - A Nikolayev and V Sevastyanov return after 18 days in Soyuz 9.
  • 1976 - US Viking 1 goes into Martian orbit after 10-month flight from Earth.
  • 1981 - European Space Agency's Ariane carries two satellites into orbit.

  • 1934 - Federal Communications Commission (FCC) created.

  • 2006 - A meteor show is observed in various places in Pennsylvania, USA.
  • 2018 - The United States announces it will withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council.
