Personal computer history:

  • 1982 - The National Computer Conference is held in Houston, Texas.
  • 1983 - At the Summer CES, Commodore International shows the Executive 64, formerly the Commodore SX-100. It has a 6-inch color monitor and is priced at US$995.
  • 1994 - (to June 18) At the Trump Tower in New York City, the Intel World Chess Championship Quarter-finals are held. Game moves are entered on laptop computers, connected by modems to ImagiNation Network for live interactive coverage for viewers.
  • 2000 - United States District Judge Thomas Jackson orders the breakup of Microsoft into two companies, one producing operating systems, the other producing application programs. Microsoft says it will file an appeal of the decision.
  • 2004 - Apple Computer announces the AirPort Express wireless network station. Price is US$129.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1940 - The Donald Duck film Mr. Duck Steps Out is released to theaters. Daisy Duck (first time with that name) and Huey, Dewey, and Louie also appear.
  • 1946 - The Pluto film Squatter's Rights is released to theaters. Mickey Mouse and Chip 'n' Dale also appear.
  • 1975 - The Mission to Mars attraction opens in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
  • 1979 - Disney releases the live-action short film Footloose Fox to theaters.
  • 1984 - Mike Milken calls Minneapolis financier and raider Irwin Jacobs, to ask if he would buy junk bonds in support of Saul Steinberg's takeover attempt. Later in the day, Irwin calls back to buy US$35 million worth.
  • 1990 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere film Back Home.
  • 1993 - Disney releases the film The Mighty Ducks on laserdisc for US$40.
  • 1994 - The Disney Channel begins airing the series Walt Disney World Inside Out.
  • 1996 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Hollywood Pictures film The Rock to theaters in the US.
  • 1998 - The Broadway stage show The Lion King wins six Tony Awards: Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Costume Design, Best Choreography, Best Director of a Musical, and Best Musical.
  • 1998 - Julie Taymor wins a Tony Award as Best Director, for The Lion King, the play.
  • 2000 - The ABC TV network airs the second and final Clerks episode.
  • 2002 - The Touchstone film Bad Company is released to theaters.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1983 - The Corvette plant builds a new 1984 model Corvette, with build order "DE 9163 ZORA 1". The car is identified on the build sheet as model ZORA 1, not as a Corvette. The car is a standard 1984 model Corvette, other than the non-standard exterior color, code 33 Spectra Red. The car is for use at the Black Hills Corvette Classic event in Spearfish, South Dakota, in July, with Zora Arkus-Duntov posing for publicity photos and videos.
  • 1987 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, a race of the IMSA Camel GT series is held. The two Corvette GTP cars finish 3rd and 11th.
  • 2003 - At the California Speedway in Fontana, California, the Lexus Grand American 250 Grand Sport race is held, round five in the Grand-Am Cup series.
    • Finishing 3rd in GS I class and 3rd overall is the Powell Motorsports #11 Corvette Z06, driven by Devon Powell and Doug Goad.
    • Finishing 5th in GS I class and 5th overall is the Powell Motorsports #02 Corvette Z06, driven by Mike Weinberg and Jeff Altenburg.
    • Finishing 10th in GS I class and 37th overall is the Silverstone Racing Services #39 Corvette, driven by Larry Huang and Chris Hall.

  • 2008 - At Watkins Glen International the Sahlen's Six Hours at The Glen race is held, round 7 of the Grand-American Road Racing Championship.
    • Finishing 15th in GT class and 32nd overall is Nonnamaker/Nonnamaker in the #43 Team Sahlen Corvette.
    • Finishing 22nd in GT class and 41st overall is Sahlen/Nonnamaker in the #42 Team Sahlen Corvette.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - The Norwegian government ceases hostilities with Germany.
  • 1940 - The Norwegian government flees to England.
  • 1942 - (morning) The US aircraft carrier Yorktown sinks.
  • 1942 - German General Erich von Manstein's army launches an offensive on Sevastopol.
  • 1942 - Japan invades Alaska's Aleutian islands.
  • 1942 - Losses at the Battle of Midway: US forces: 307 men, one aircraft carrier, 150 planes; Japanese forces: 3500 men, 4 carriers, 322 planes.
  • 1944 - (1150 hours) In northern France, Canadian forces occupy the village of Buron, near Caen.
  • 1944 - (1230 hours) In northern France, Canadian forces reach the village of Authie, about 2 km from Carpiquet.
  • 1944 - 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend shoots eight unarmed Canadian prisoners in Authie. The bodies are dragged on to the road and run over with tanks.
  • 1945 - The King of Norway returns home to Oslo from London, England.
  • 1969 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 25th anniversary of the battle of Mt. Mouchet between French resistance fighters and German soldiers, June 2-10, 1944.
  • 2005 - St. Vincent & The Grenadines issues ten postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.
  • 2005 - Palau issues five postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of V-J Day.

Video game history:

  • 2002 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A scene takes place in a videogame arcade.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure for the Game Cube in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Game Boy Advance SP in classic NES-controller style colors in the US; price is about $100.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Super Mario Bros. video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Donkey Kong video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Ice Climber video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Pac-Man video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Bomberman video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Excitebike video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.

  • 2011 - (to June 9) In Los Angeles, California, the Electronic Entertainment Exposition is held.
  • 2011 - At the Electronic Entertainment Exposition, Nintendo announces the Nintendo Wii U video game system. The tablet-like controller features 6.2-inch high resolution touchscreen display, dual Circle Pdas, "+" Control Pad, ABXY and LRZ buttons, camera, speakers, and microphone.
  • 2011 - At the Electronic Entertainment Exposition, Sony announces the name of its new PlayStation Portable model: PlayStation Vita. Release price is to be US$249.99 (249 euros, 24,980 yen).
  • 2011 - Sony Computer Entertainment releases the Infamous 2 video game for the PlayStation 3 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1905 - In a session of the Norwegian parliament, a unanimous vote proclaims that "the union with Sweden under one king is dissolved in consequence of the king's ceasing to function as king of Norway". The storting authorizes the Norwegian Council to take over control of the government.
  • 2006 - Denmark issues a postage stamp depicting the Swedish Volvo P1800 car.

USA coin history:

  • 1935 - Congress authorizes the Old Spanish Trail 400th anniversary half dollar, limited to maximum 10,000 coins.
  • 2010 - The US Mint introduces the America the Beautiful Quarters Bulk Purchase Program, allowing anyone to purchase a bag of 200,000 coins for $50,000 (face value) plus $1500 processing fee.

Sports history:

  • 1892 - John J Doyle of Clevland Spiders is first to pinch hit in a baseball game.
  • 1936 - New York Yankees beat Cleveland Indians 5-4 in 16 innings; longest game without a strikeout.
  • 1939 - Cleveland Indians set American League record of 16-inning game without striking out, however lose game 5-4 to New York Yankees.
  • 1970 - Jockey Willie Shoemaker passes Johnny Longden with his 6,033rd win.
  • 1975 - Spain's Manuel Orantes wins US Open, beating Jimmy Connors in three sets.
  • 1978 - Bullets beat Seattle Supersonics for NBA championship, 4 games to 3.
  • 1980 - Temperance Hill wins Belmont Stakes (50:1 long shot).
  • 1980 - Tommy John wins his 200th, 3-0 on a 2-hitter.
  • 1980 - John McEnroe beats Björn Borg for US Open.
  • 1981 - Björn Borg wins his 6th French Open singles (defeats Ivan Lendl).
  • 1982 - New York Mets draft Dwight Gooden, Roger McDowell and Randy Myers.
  • 1982 - Los Angeles Dodgers' first baseman Steve Garvey becomes only the fifth player in major league history to play in 1,000 consecutive games.
  • 1983 - Steve Carlton of the Philadelphia Phillies strikes out Lonnie Smith for his 3,522nd career strikeout to pass Nolan Ryan as the all-time strikeout leader.
  • 1989 - 23-year-old Olympic barefoot South African runner Zola Budd retires.
  • 1989 - Atlanta Fulton County Committee approves US$210 million stadium for the Atlanta Falcons.
  • 1989 - Wayne Gretzky wins his 9th NHL Hart Trophy (Most Valuable Player) in ten years.
  • 1997 - The Detroit Red Wings win their first Stanley Cup championship in 42 years, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers four games to none. Red Wings goaltender Mike Vernon is awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff Most Valuable Player.
  • 2004 - Tampa Bay Lightning defeats Calgary Flames in 2004 NHL Stanley Cup Finals.
  • 2008 - Serbia's Ana Ivanovic wins the French Open tennis championship, defeating Dinara Safina of Russia, 6-4, 6-3. Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay and Luis Home of Peru defeat Canada's Daniel Nestor and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic 6-2, 6-3, winning the men's doubles championship.
  • 2009 - Roger Federer beats Robin Soderling in straight sets (6-1, 7-6 (1), 6-4) to win his first French Open tennis tournament in Paris.
  • 2009 - In Istanbul, Turkey, round 7 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Jenson Button.
  • 2019 - (to July 7) The 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup is held in France and is won by the United States.
  • 2022 - At Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, NHL Eastern Conference Final, game 4: Tampa Bay Lightning beats New York Rangers by score 4-1, series tied 2-2.
  • 2022 - At Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Colorado Rockies beats San Francisco Giants by score 5-3.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Diego Padres beats New York Mets by score 7-0.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Boston Red Sox beats Los Angeles Angels by score 6-5.
  • 2022 - At Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Toronto Blue Jays beats Kansas City Royals by score 7-0.

  • 1909 - Cleveland Industrial Exposition opens.
  • 1912 - US army tests first machine gun mounted on a plane.
  • 1913 - Hudson Stuck, an Alaskan missionary, leads the first successful ascent of the south peak of Mount McKinley, the highest point on the American continent at 20,320 feet. Companions Harry Karstens, Walter Harper, and Robert Tatum follow Stuck to the summit.
  • 1930 - New York Times agrees to capitalize the n in "Negro".
