  • 1985 - Apple Computer announces a restructuring of the company, eliminating the Macintosh and Apple II divisions, amalgamating them into manufacturing and marketing divisions. Steve Jobs is removed as a division manager.
  • 2002 - Market value of Microsoft: US$275.7 billion, second highest in the world.
  • 2005 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the Athlon 64 x2 Dual-Core 4200+, 4400+, 4600+, and 4800+ processors. Processor speed of the 4200+ and 4400+ is 2.2 GHz; speed of the other two is 2.4 GHz. Cache size of 4200+ and 4600+ is 512 kB; of 4400+ and 4800+ is 1 MB. Prices are US$537, US$581, US$803, US$1001, respectively, in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2006 - The Game Critics Awards are announced:
    • Best Original Game: Spore;
    • Best PC Game: Spore;
    • Best Simulation Game: Spore.

  • 2007 - Dell announces job cuts of 10 percent over the next twelve months, a reduction of about 8800 employees.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1972 - Fujeira issues sixty different stamps with Disney cartoon characters. This is an illegal issue, not authorized by Disney.
  • 1986 - The Disney Channel airs the last episode of Return to Treasure Island.
  • 1991 - Disney Press publishes its first book, 101 Dalmatians: A Counting Book.
  • 1992 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film Still Not Quite Human.
  • 2000 - The ABC TV network premieres the Miramax Television animated series Clerks.
  • 2006 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment announces it will offer movies for sale via CinemaNow over the Internet, starting June 6. Prices would be about $20 per new title, and $10 for older titles.
  • 2008 - The Concourse Steak House in the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 2009 - The Virgin Megastore at Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World closes.
  • 2012 - The Finding Nemo stage of The Art of Animation Resort opens at Walt Disney World, with 1120 family suites and 864 other rooms.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1993 - In Lime Rock, Connecticut, a race in the Bridgestone/IMSA Supercar Championship series is held. Finishing 6th in a Corvette is Sean Roe.
  • 2004 - At the Lime Rock Park raceway in Lime Rock Park, the Mohegan Sun - Lime Rock Grand Prix race is held, round two of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship series.
    • Finishing 6th is the 3R-Racing #73 Corvette Z06, driven by Phil McClure.
    • Finishing 9th is the #28 Corvette Z06, driven by Lou Gigliotti.
    • Finishing 10th is the Tiger Racing #99 Corvette Z06, driven by Thomas Oates.
    • In 21st place, but not finishing the race, is the Black Dog Racing #34 Corvette, driven by Tony Gaples.
    • In 25th place, but not finishing the race, is the Banner Engineering #6 Corvette, driven by Leighton Reese.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - Total German submarine sinkings of merchant shipping in the Atlantic during the past three months: 43 ships, 140,000 tons.
  • 1941 - (about 0010 hours) German planes unintentionally drop bombs on Dublin, Ireland. Their target was Belfast, but British radar defense distorted their direction-finding beam to change their course.
  • 1941 - In convoy HX-127 from Canada to England, merchant ship Gravelines is torpedoed and half sunk; 11 die.
  • 1941 - Commodore L.W. Murray of the Royal Canadian Navy is appointed commander of the Newfoundland Escort Force.
  • 1942 - Submarine U-432 torpedoes and sinks Canadian merchant ship Liverpool Packet off Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Two die.
  • 1943 - Japanese forces driven from Aleutians.
  • 1943 - German submarine U-440 under commander Werner Schwaff is lost with all hands (46 dead).
  • 1943 - German submarine U-563 under commander Gustav Borchardt is lost with all hands (49 dead).
  • 1944 - In Italy, retreating Germans burn two ships in a special museum near Lake Nemi outside Rome. The ships had been used in the lake as floating entertainment palaces in time of Caligula, about year 12-41.
  • 1944 - In Italy, Canadian forces occupy Frosinone.
  • 1944 - (night) 245 minesweepers begin clearing the English coast, and clearing paths to the landing sites on the French coast.
  • 1969 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 25th anniversary of thelanding of Special Air Service and Free French commandoes in Normandy in 1944.
  • 1993 - The United States issues ten postage stamps marking World War II in 1943.
  • 1995 - Samoa issues five postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1977 - Alpex Computer is granted patent 4,026,555 in the US for video game technology enabling on-screen characters to move and interact.
  • 1991 - At the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, Illinois, Sony announces the Play Station video game system that can play Nintendo's new 16-bit game cartridges, as well as games on compact disk. The Play Station system is set to cost about US$400.
  • 1998 - Acclaim Entertainment releases the Mortal Kombat 4 video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 2000 - Midway releases the Gauntlet Legends video game for the Dreamcast.
  • 2006 - The Game Critics Awards announce the Best of E3 Awards: Best of Show: Wii; Best Hardware: Wii; Best Console Game: Gears of War; Best Handheld Game: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass; Best Sports Game: Wii Sports.
  • 2006 - Eidos releases the Hitman: Blood Money video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2007 - Sony Ericsson files a patent application in the USA for a mobile phone with video game features, with a swiveling screen.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1995 - The Royal Canadian Mint begins seeking quotes from manufacturers to produce blanks for the proposed circulating $2 coin.

USA coin history:

  • 1861 - The Charlotte Mint makes its final coinage, 887 1861-dated gold half eagles.
  • 1861 - The Confederate States of America closes the Charlotte, Dahlonega, and New Orleans Mints.
  • 1973 - Legislation is introduced proposing changes to all six circulating coins for the 1976 American bicentennial.
  • 1979 - Representative William S. Broomfield of Michigan introduces a bill in the House of Representatives to provide for issuance of gold coins.
  • 2010 - Ira and Larry GoldBerg Auctioneers sell a unique 1959-D Lincoln Wheat cent mule, graded MS-60+ brown for US$31,050.

Sports history:

  • 1868 - Dr James Moore (United Kingdom) wins first recorded bicycle race, (2k) velocipede race at Parc fde Saint Cloud, Paris.
  • 1869 - Heavy rain postpones the Red Stockings baseball game against the Anioch Nine; first rain-out in professional baseball.
  • 1900 - Tom Hayward scores 1,000th cricket run of season (sets record 1074).
  • 1902 - Australia Cricket all out 36 versus England, Edgbaston, their lowest ever.
  • 1913 - Alexis Ahlgren runs world record marathon (2:36:06.6).
  • 1914 - Chicago White Sox pitcher Joe Benz no-hits Cleveland Naps, 6-1.
  • 1927 - Detroit Tigers' first baseman Johnny Neun makes an unassisted triple play.
  • 1928 - Charlie Hallows scores his 1,000th run of Cricket season.
  • 1930 - Donald Bradman gets his 1,000th run of the English Cricket season.
  • 1938 - Bill Edrich scores his 1,000th run of cricket season, all at Lord's.
  • 1942 - 25th PGA Championship: Sam Snead wins at Seaview CC in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.
  • 1943 - Saint Louis Cardinals' Mort Cooper pitches first of back-to-back one-hitters.
  • 1947 - 79th Belmont Stakes: Ruperto Donoso aboard Phalanx wins in 2:29.6.
  • 1948 - Tommy Lasorda strikes out 25 Amsterdam Rugmakers (in 15 innings).
  • 1949 - 31st PGA Championship: Sam Snead at Hermitage Country Club, Richmond, Virginia, USA.
  • 1949 - Charley Lupica begins stay on 4-foot-square platform atop a 60-foot pole, vowing to stay until Cleveland Indians clinch pennant. (They don't, and he comes down 117 days later.)
  • 1950 - Due to rain, Indianapolis 500 shortened to 345 miles, Johnny Parson wins.
  • 1950 - Laker takes 14-12-2-8 in Test Cricket trial.
  • 1956 - Mickey Mantle homerun just misses (18 inches) clearing Yankee Stadium's roof.
  • 1959 - Mickey Wright wins LPGA Cavalier Golf Open.
  • 1961 - Benfica wins 6th Europe Cup 1 at Bern, Switzerland.
  • 1964 - Ruth Jessen wins LPGA Babe Didrikson-Zaharias Golf Open.
  • 1964 - San Francisco Giants beat New York Mets, 8-6, in 23 innings (second game) (7 hours 32 minutes).
  • 1965 - Jim Clark becomes first foreigner in 49 years to win Indianapolis 500 car race.
  • 1967 - Bayern München wins 7th Europe Cup II at Neurenberg, Germany.
  • 1970 - Shirley Englehorn wins LPGA O'Sullivan Ladies' Golf Open.
  • 1972 - Ajax wins Europe Cup 1 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
  • 1973 - Glenn Turner scores his 1,000th cricket run of English season.
  • 1975 - Fred Newman makes 12,874 baskets in a one-day basketball exhibition.
  • 1981 - Cathy Reynolds wins LPGA Golden Lights Golf Championship.
  • 1983 - 37th NBA Championship: Philadelphia 76ers sweep Los Angeles Lakers in four games.
  • 1984 - Viv Richards hits 189 (170 balls) versus England, ODI cricket record.
  • 1985 - New Orleans Saints franchise is sold for US$70,204,000.
  • 1986 - The 1986 FIFA World Cup begins in Mexico.
  • 1987 - Cindy Rarick wins LPGA Corning Golf Classic.
  • 1987 - Stanley Cup: Edmonton Oilers beat Philadelphia Flyers, 4 games to 3.
  • 1990 - BPAA US Women's Bowling Open won by Dana Miller-Mackie.
  • 1992 - Barb Mucha wins LPGA Oldsmobile Golf Classic.
  • 1994 - San Diego Padres score 13 in second versus Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • 1996 - FIFA decides to give the FIFA World Cup 2002 to Japan and South Korea, becoming the first World Cup with co-host countries in the history of the event, as well as the first World Cup in Asia.
  • 1997 - Canadian Donovan Bailey beats American Michael Johnson in 150-metre race.
  • 2002 - The 2002 FIFA World Cup begins, co-hosted by South Korea and Japan.
  • 2008 - Usain Bolt of Jamaica sets a world record of 9.72 seconds in the 100-metre sprint at the Reebok Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium in New York.
  • 2009 - In Valencia, Spain, round 5 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship is held. Race 1 is won by Yvan Muller; race 2 is won by Augusto Farfus.
  • 2009 - In Mugello, Italy, round 5 of the FIM MotoGP Championship is won by Casey Stoner.
  • 2022 - At Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Pittsburgh Pirates beats 5-3 by score Los Angeles Dodgers.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Houston Astros beats Oakland Athletics by score 3-1.
  • 2022 - At Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Arizona Diamondbacks beats Atlanta Braves by score 8-7.
