  • 1995 - Microsoft chairman Bill Gates issues an internal memo "The Internet Tidal Wave", saying he believes the Internet to be the single most important development in the computer industry since the IBM Personal Computer. He gives the highest level of importance to the Internet, calling it "critical to every part of our business".
  • 1998 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the K6-2 processor, featuring 266, 300, or 333 MHz speed, 100 MHz bus and cache, 3DNow! instructions, and incorporating 9.3 million transistors.
  • 2003 - Palm announces it has sold 1 million Zire handheld computers.
  • 2003 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the Athlon XP 3200+ processor. It features 333 MHz front-side bus. Price is US$464 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2003 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the Athlon XP 3000+ desktop processor. It features 400 MHz system bus. Price is US$280 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2005 - Intel releases the 3.8 GHz Pentium 4 model 670 processor. It features 2 MB cache, 800 MHz front-side bus and 90-nanometre traces. Price is US$849 in 1000 unit quantities.
  • 2005 - Intel releases the Pentium D processor, models 820, 830, and 840. They feature dual cores, each with 2 MB level 2 cache, 800 MHz front-side bus, EM64T instructions, Enhanced Speed Step Technology, 90 nm process, 230 million transistors, 206 mm2 die size. Speeds and prices in 1000 unit quantities are 2.8 GHz (US$241), 3.0 GHz (US$316), and 3.2 GHz (US$530).
  • 2006 - Barbados issues a postage stamp depicting children at a personal computer.
  • 2010 - Market capitalization of Apple (US$222 billion) passes Microsoft (US$219 billion) for the first time since December 19,1989. Apple stock is worth more than 10 times what they were 10 years ago, whereas Microsoft stock is down 20 percent over the same time period.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1928 - Walt Disney copyrights the film Plane Crazy.
  • 1963 - The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awards an Emmy Award (outstanding program achievements in the field of children's programming) to the Walt Disney Studio for the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color TV show.
  • 1976 - Buena Vista releases the live-action feature film Escape From the Dark to theaters in Great Britain.
  • 1983 - The EPCOT Outreach information area opens in Communicore West in EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World.
  • 1990 - The Calling Dick Tracy shop opens on Hollywood Boulevard in Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World.
  • 1990 - The Mickey's Starland attraction opens in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - Adolf Hitler lifts his panzer halt order. Army headquarters directs panzers to move south to attack across the Somme River.
  • 1940 - German forces take Boulogne and Calais, France.
  • 1940 - Wilhelm Keitel issues an order for the German Air Force to attack British food supplies, public services, and aircraft industry.
  • 1940 - (evening) A British order is given to implement Operation Dynamo, for British destroyers to rescue up to 4500 men of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk, France, within two days.
  • 1941 - (about 0600 hours) A reconnaissance plane from Northern Ireland spots the Bismarck.
  • 1941 - (1036 hours) A Royal Air Force Coastal Command Catalina flying boat out of Loch Erne sights the Bismarck.
  • 1941 - (1430 hours) British carrier Ark Royal arrives within fifty miles of the Bismarck, ready to launch aerial torpedo attacks.
  • 1941 - Fourteen Swordfish planes from the Ark Royal launch torpedoes on a ship which turns out to be the British cruiser Sheffield. All torpedoes miss or detonate early.
  • 1941 - (1915 hours) British carrier Ark Royal launches 15 Fairey Swordfish torpedo-bomber floatplanes against the Bismarck.
  • 1941 - (2035 hours) Swordfish planes from Ark Royal contact the Sheffield, receiving visual signal of the position of the Bismarck.
  • 1941 - Swordfish planes launch torpedo attacks on the Bismarck. Two hits are scored, one knocking out the steering gear, jamming the rudder at 15 degrees to port. Another torpedo strikes amidships, doing little damage.
  • 1941 - (evening) Crete commander Major General Bernard Freyberg of New Zealand reports by radio to Cairo, Egypt, that his forces can no longer hold the island.
  • 1942 - Great Britain and the Soviet Union conclude an alliance for twenty years.
  • 1942 - British Deputy Chief of Air Staff Arthur Travers Harris issues final operation order for massive bombing of Cologne or Hamburg, on night of May 27/28 or up to May 31/June 1.
  • 1942 - (evening) Axis forces in North Africa under German General Erwin Rommel resume attacks on British forces. Italian infantry make a diversionary frontal assault against the British Gazala line at Belhamed, a fifty mile long heavily mined defensive line. Rommel's 10,000-vehicle force begins a drive for the weak British southern flank.
  • 1943 - At Peenemünde, comparison tests are made of the flying bomb (Fi.103 or FZG 76, later called V-1) and the A-4 rocket (V-2) in the presence of Nazi ministers and generals. Two rockets perform perfectly, flying 160 miles. Two flying bombs crash in the Baltic after travelling a mile or two. The Long-Range Bombardment Commission accepts the recommendation of putting both into production, top priority.
  • 1943 - German submarine U-436 under commander Günther Seibicke is lost with all hands (47 dead).
  • 1992 - Tonga issues postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of World War II in the Pacific.

Video game history:

  • 1984 - In Houston, Texas, 14 top scorers from 14 regions of the US compete in the Grand National Finals of Konami's Track & Field arcade game. The top three will play in Japan in June against Japan's top three players.
  • 1994 - Acclaim releases the Mortal Kombat video game for the Sega CD in the US.
  • 2009 - Sony Computer Entertainment releases the Infamous video game for the PlayStation 3 in the USA.
  • 2017 - Capcom releases the Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers video game for the Switch in the USA.
  • 2017 - Grey Box releases the Rime video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.

USA coin history:

  • 1797 - The Mint delivers the last half dollars of the 18th century.
  • 1934 - Congress authorizes Daniel Boone Bicentennial commemorative half dollar program, up to 600,000 coins.
  • 1965 - (to May 28) The U.S. Mint facility in Denver Colorado melts all of the 1964-dated silver dollar trial pieces.
  • 2008 - (to May 27) Superior Galleries conducts the Pre-Long Beach Elite Coin Auction of 1200 lots in Beverly Hills, California. USA 1879 Flowing Hair gold $4 Stella NGC PR-67 cameo: US$402,500.
  • 2009 - The US Mint releases the 2009 Guam quarter dollar coin to circulation.

  • 1874 - Second Preakness: William Donohue aboard Culpepper wins in 2:56.5.
  • 1883 - 11th Preakness: G Barbee aboard Jacobus wins in 2:42.5.
  • 1884 - Fred Spofforth takes 7-34 and 7-3 in cricket versus England XI in four hours.
  • 1896 - First American intercollegiate bicycle race, at Manhattan Beach, New York.
  • 1898 - 32nd Belmont Stakes: F Littlefield aboard Bowling Brook wins in 2:32.
  • 1907 - Chicago White Sox' pitcher Ed Walsh no-hits New York Highlanders, 8-1 in five-inning game.
