  • 2001 - Intel announces the 750 MHz mobile Pentium III processor. The 1.35-volt processor can step down to 500 MHz at 1.1 volts when running on battery power.
  • 2001 - Intel announces the 600 MHz mobile Pentium III processor. The 1.1-volt processor can step down to 300 MHz at 0.975 volts when running on battery power.
  • 2001 - Intel announces two 600 MHz mobile Celeron processor. One operates at 1.35 volts, the other at 1.1 volts.
  • 2001 - Intel announces the 800 MHz Celeron processor.
  • 2003 - SCO Group officially drops its old name Caldera International.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 2.4, 2.6, and 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 processor with 800 MHz front-side bus. Prices are US$180, US$228, and US$278 respectively in 1000-unit quantities.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1928 - Walt Disney's trademark application for "Mickey Mouse" is filed with the United States Patent Office.
  • 1948 - Disney releases the Donald Duck film Donald's Dream Voice to theaters.
  • 1954 - Disney releases the animated short film Pigs is Pigs to theaters.
  • 1954 - Disney releases the animated short film Johnny Fedora and Alice Bluebonnet to theaters. It was originally released as part of the film Make Mine Music.
  • 1961 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, entitled Wonders of the Water World.
  • 1984 - Donald Duck puts his webbed footprints in cement at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

  • 2007 - Business Week magazine releases results of a survey by Universum Communnications of 40,000 students on the Most Desirable Undergraduate Employer. Number two on the list is the Walt Disney Company.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1956 - The 1522nd 1956 Corvette is completed. This car is destined to become the first SR-2, for Harley Earl's son Jerry.
  • 1978 - At the Sears Point International Raceway in Sonoma, California, the SCCA NaturSlim Trans-Am Challenge - Round 1 race is held.

  • 2005 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, the SPEED World Challenge Weekend race is held, round four of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT series.

    • Finishing 2nd in GT1 class and 7th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C6-R driven by Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell.

World War II history:

  • 1938 - Czechoslovakia garrisons its border with Germany.
  • 1940 - At a meeting of the Australian War Cabinet, industrialist Essington Lewis is appointed Director General of Munitions Supply, and given great freedom to achieve his goals. Sir Keith Murdoch is appointed Director General of Information, with wide-ranging powers and responsibilities. Cabinet approves construction of a dry dock in Sydney capable of taking battleships and aircraft carriers. A Director General of Recruiting is appointed.
  • 1940 - Two infantry battalions of British Expeditionary Force 50th Division and 1st Army Tank Brigade attack German forces southeast of Arras, with 58 Mark I Matilda tanks (with single machine guns), and 16 Mark II Matilda tanks (with high-velocity 40-mm guns). They inflict serious casualties on Erwin Rommel's artillery and infantry, until Rommel forms a defensive line of artillery and 88-mm anti-aircraft guns. This line destroys 36 British tanks. Panzer tanks join in destroying a further seven tanks, but at a loss of three Panzer IV tanks, six Panzer III tanks, and other light tanks. German troop losses total 387 men in this one battle, four times the total losses to date.
  • 1941 - (by dawn) Allied forces withdraw from Maleme airfield on Crete.
  • 1941 - (0900 hours) The heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen stops at Bergen, Norway, to refuel; the battleship Bismarck does not.
  • 1941 - (morning) On Crete, German transport planes begin landing at airport near Maleme.
  • 1941 - (afternoon) On Crete, several companies of German paratroopers land near Maleme airport.
  • 1941 - (late afternoon) On Crete, German 5th Mountain Division troops begin landing at the Maleme airport.
  • 1941 - British ships sink most of 25 small vessels north of Crete carrying heavy weapons and some 5th Mountain Division troops.
  • 1941 - (at dusk) Operation Rheinübung begins, as German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen head out to the Atlantic Ocean.
  • 1942 - Convoy PQ-16 sails from Iceland, headed to Murmansk, Russia.
  • 1942 - Convoy QP-12 sails from Murmansk, headed to Iceland.
  • 1942 - Submarine U-69 torpedoes and sinks Canadian merchant ship Torondoc off Martinique in the Caribbean. 21 die.
  • 1942 - Submarine U-558 torpedoes and sinks Canadian merchant ship Troisdoc off Jamaica in the Caribbean.
  • 1943 - At the Trident Conference in Washington, Britain and the US agree Operation Overlord, the amphibious landing in France, should be launched May 1, 1944.
  • 1943 - German submarine U-303 under commander Karl-Franz Heine is lost with 20 dead of 48 crew.
  • 1943 - German submarine U-381 under commander Graf Wilhelm-Heinrich Pückler und Limpurg is lost with all hands (47 dead).
  • 2001 - Gibraltar issues a postage stamp depicting the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1982 - Minoru Awkawa and Howard Lincoln of Nintendo of America meet with Sid Sheinberg at Universal Studios, telling them of refusal to pay royalties for Donkey Kong.
  • 1984 - Atari officially discontinues the Atari 5200 video game system.
  • 1984 - Atari introduces the Atari 7800 ProSystem. It features higher resolution graphics than the Atari 5200, optional keyboard to make it a home computer, and compatibility with Atari 2600 cartridges. Price is US$149. The number 7800 represents 5200 plus 2600.
  • 1998 - Sega announces the Dreamcast video game system will be released in Japan on November 27.
  • 2000 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US. A pizza restaurant has an arcade video game, called "Monkey Fracas Jr." This is a reference to the Donkey Kong Jr. video game.
  • 2001 - Nintendo announces the initial price of the GameCube in the US will be US$199.
  • 2002 - Take Two Interactive Software announces the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City video game for the PlayStation 2. Release date is set for October 22.
  • 2002 - Nintendo reduces the price of the GameCube from US$199.95 to US$149.95 in the United States.
  • 2003 - Nintendo releases the Wario Ware, Inc: Mega Microgame$ video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US. Price is $34.99.
  • 2008 - Activision releases the Quake Wars: Enemy Territory video game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the US.
  • 2010 - Online search engine Google.com provides an animated playable version of Pac-Man in the Company's logo in honor of the 30th anniversary of the release of the game. For 48 hours users worldwide can play the 255 levels of the game.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1901 - The Ottawa Mint Act is introduced in parliament.

USA coin history:

  • 1788 - James Jarvis & Co. delivers 400,000 Fugio cents to the national government.
  • 1965 - US Senator Alan Bible of Nevada introduces bill S. 2012 in the Senate that would give the Treasury Secretary the power to dictate what coins could be traded at a premium. It would also prohibit exportation of US coins, prohibit the melting of silver coins by unauthorized persons, outlaw unreasonable hoarding of coins, and outlaw buying or selling non-rare coins at more than face value.
  • 1996 - Auctions by Bowers and Merena sells the Louis Eliasberg 1913 Liberty Head nickel (Proof 66, finest known) for US$1.485 million, a record for a single coin at auction. Also notable is the Eliasberg 1796 Liberty Cap, No Pole half cent, MS-65, sold for $506,000, a record for a US half cent.
  • 2001 - The US Mint launches the 2001 Rhode Island State quarter dollar.
  • 2004 - U.S. Court of Appeals rules that intentional systematic overgrading of coins is a criminal offence.
  • 2008 - (to May 22) Stack's conducts an auction of 2800 lots of US coins, paper money. Some highlights:
    • 1795 Capped Bust Small Eagle 13 Leaves Reverse gold $20 eagle PCGS MS-63 US$402,500;
    • 1916 bronze cast for Standing Liberty quarter dollar US$120,750.

  • 2009 - The US Mint releases the 2009 John Tyler Presidential dollar coin to circulation.

  • 1866 - First-class cricket debut of G F Grace aged 15 years 159 days.
  • 1878 - 4th Kentucky Derby: Jimmy Carter aboard Day Star wins in 2:37.25.
  • 1881 - US Nation Lawn Tennis Association is formed.
  • 1886 - 14th Preakness: S Fisher aboard Bard wins in 2:45.
  • 1891 - Boxers Peter Jackson and Jim Corbett fight to a draw in 61 rounds.

  • 1998 - In Miami, Florida, five abortion clinics are hit by a butyric acid attacker.
  • 2001 - The US Mint releases the 2001 Rhode Island quarter dollar to circulation.
  • 2002 - The US State Department releases a report naming seven state sponsors of terrorism: Iran, Iraq, Cuba, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
  • 2008 - U.S. crude oil price passes US$130 per barrel, rising $5 above the previous day to a record high of US$134.
  • 2020 - The U.S. announces it will withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty within six months, alleging continuous violations by Russia.
