  • 1983 - Electronic Arts releases first product.
  • 1990 - Universal Pictures releases the film Bird on a Wire to theaters in the USA.
    • An Apple Macintosh with red diskette appears a few times.
    • An IBM PC/XT appears briefly.

  • 1998 - The US Department of Justice and twenty state attorneys general file a lawsuit against Microsoft, charging the company with violations of the Sherman Act: exclusive dealing and unlawful tying, monopoly maintenance in the operating system market, and attempted monopoly of the browser market. The suit seeks a preliminary injunction for Microsoft either to offer Windows 98 without Internet Explorer, or bundle Netscape Navigator as well.
  • 2004 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A Power Pals computer logo looks similar to the Mac OS logo.
  • 2004 - Dell releases the Dell Axim X30 handheld computer. It features Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless, stylus, SecureDigital slot, 624 MHz Intel PXA270 processor, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC OS, 240x320 color display, 64 MB RAM, 64 MB ROM, docking cradle. Price is US$349; size is 4.6 x 3.0 x 0.6 inches; weight is 4.9 ounces. A mid-range version for US$249 comes with a 312 MHz processor and no docking cradle. A low-end version for US$199 comes with a 312 MHz processor, 32 MB RAM, 32 MB ROM, no docking cradle, and no wireless capabilities.
  • 2006 - Dell announces it will start using Advanced Micro Devices processors in its personal computers.
  • 2008 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A laptop computer appears, showing a coin web site.
  • 2009 - Netherlands Antilles issues a 164-cent postage stamp for the Century of Telecommunications and Posts Departments, depicting a person at a computer.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1926 - Disney ships the Alice Comedy film Alice the Fire Fighter to M.J. Winkler Productions.
  • 1951 - The Pluto film Plutopia is released. Mickey Mouse also appears.
  • 1986 - The ABC TV network airs The Disney Sunday Movie, two films entitled Fuzzbucket and The Deacon Street Deer.
  • 1993 - American Broadcasting Company airs the Full House TV show in the USA. The show takes place at Walt Disney World, showing many street characters, and many attractions.
  • 1995 - Disney announces it is buying 25% of the California Angels baseball team from owner Gene Autry.
  • 1995 - The Walt Disney World Food and Beverage division invites Disney executives to preview changes in Disney cuisine.
  • 1997 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A child says "Wow, I can't believe we're going to Disneyland!", when in fact the family is driving him to military school. Later, the parents say they are taking the kids to Disneyland for real, when in fact they arrive at the dentist. A few recognizable notes of "It's a Small World" are played.
  • 2003 - Disney premieres the film Finding Nemo in Hollywood, California.
  • 2004 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment releases a DVD set of Disney Treasures: Walt Disney on the Front Lines.
  • 2004 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment releases a DVD set of Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Volume 2.
  • 2004 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment releases a DVD set of Disney Treasures: The Chronological Donald Duck, Volume 1.
  • 2004 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment releases a DVD set of Disney Treasures: Walt Disney's Tomorrowland.
  • 2007 - Ten wireless hot spots are opened at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Users with a Nintendo DS and the game Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End can download extra content at these hot spots not available anywhere else.
  • 2008 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. The "Krustketeers" is a reference to the Disney Mouseketeers. A song also mimics the "Mickey Mouse" song. A modern-day reunion of members includes an angry "Cubby".

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1984 - The Las Vegas Auto Exposition is held in Nevada. Bertone show the Ramarro show car, based on a 1984 Corvette, with engine moved to the rear, forward-sliding doors, low sweeping windshield, and pained three shades of green.
  • 1986 - At the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Harrisburg, North Carolina, the Charlotte 500 race is held, part of the IMSA Camel GT series. The new Corvette GTP chassis 86/10-01 finishes fourth.
  • 1990 - Universal Pictures releases the film Bird on a Wire to theaters in the USA.
    • A Black 1980-81 Corvette appears several times, including the first minute of the film.
    • A 1968-71 Corvette Convertible appears briefly.

  • 2003 - At the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, the Victory Day Trans-Am Series Weekend race is held, round two of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series.
    • Finishing 1st is the 3R Racing #73 Corvette Z06, driven by Phil McClure.
    • Finishing 9th is the Metric Chemical #35 Corvette Z06, driven by David Farmer. Farmer is awarded the Sunoco Hard Charger award.
    • Finishing 15th is the Rathmann Chevy #16 Corvette Z06, driven by Jim Rathmann.
    • Finishing 17th is the Black Dog Racing #25 Corvette, driven by Tony Gaples.
    • Finishing 18th is the Tiger Racing #99 Corvette Z06, driven by Thomas Oates.
    • In 20th place, but not finishing the race, is the Courtesy Chevrolet #5 Corvette Z06, driven by Don Campbell.

  • 2003 - At the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, round three of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup is held.
    • Finishing 4th is the Preformed Line Products #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.
    • Finishing 7th is the ROH Wheels #06 Corvette, driven by Joey Scarallo.
    • Finishing 8th is the Derhaag Motorsports #59 Corvette, driven by Simon Gregg.
    • Finishing 9th is the CJ Webster of Canada Ltd/Neil's Auto Body #95 Corvette, driven by Charlie Webster.
    • In 11th place, but not finishing the race, is the Trenton Forging/GMAC Commercial Finance #2 Corvette, driven by Stuart Hayner.
    • In 15th place, but not finishing the race, is the Revolution Motorsports #10 Corvette, driven by Bobby Sak.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - (early) Dutch and French forces evacuate the Netherlands islands of Walcheren and South Beveland, north and west of Zeeland.
  • 1940 - Japan presents Batavia with demands of a new treaty for raw materials.
  • 1940 - German forces at the Serre River in France start moving again, heading north, away from Paris.
  • 1940 - German 2nd Panzer Division reaches St. Quentin, France, ten miles beyond Moy.
  • 1940 - Premier Paul Reynaud shuffles the French Cabinet, assuming the title of War Minister, appointing Edouard Daladier as Foreign Minister, and Marshal Henri Philippe Petain as Vice President of the Council.
  • 1940 - The German Government reincorporates the Belgian districts of Eupen, Malmedy, and Moresnet back into the Reich. The Versailles Treaty had forced those areas to be ceded to Belgium.
  • 1940 - French Premier Paul Reynaud makes an address to the nation, including "The situation is serious but certainly not desperate".
  • 1940 - British troops in Egypt reinforce the western desert frontier with Libya.
  • 1940 - The American State Department makes public a joint declaration of 21 republics of the Americas. The statement condemns the "ruthless violation by Germany of the neutrality and sovereignty of Belgium, Holland, and Luxembourg.".
  • 1940 - The German 18th Army, lead by Georg Küchler, pierce the outer ring of fortresses of Antwerp, Belgium, in two places, quickly capturing the city.
  • 1940 - German forces take over 2000 Dutch and French prisoners of war in taking the Netherlands islands of South Beveland and Schouwen.
  • 1940 - The Netherlands commander of the Zeeland Islands offers capitulation to Germany.
  • 1940 - The Swedish Council on Foreign Relations of the Swedish Cabinet rules against the transit of arms for Germany.
  • 1941 - A British force entering Iraq from Transjordan arrives at Habbaniya.
  • 1942 - British Deputy Chief of Air Staff Arthur Travers Harris proposes a 1000-bomber strike on a major German city to Charles Portal, who approves.
  • 1944 - In Italy, Polish troops take the monastery at the summit of Monte Cassino.
  • 1957 - France issues five postage stamps honoring heores of the French Underground during the war.
  • 1984 - Poland issues a postage stamp marking the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino.
  • 1989 - Poland issues three postage stamps marking the 45th anniversary of the Battles of Monte Cassino, Falaise, and Arnhem.
  • 1994 - Italy issues three postage stamps depicting World War II events of 1944.
  • 1994 - Poland issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino.
  • 1995 - Dominica issues nine postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1993 - In San Francisco, California, US District Court Judge Fern Smith rules that Atari Games infringed a copyright and patent held by Nintendo by copying and using software codes used in Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges. Atari Games announces it will appeal the decision.
  • 1994 - Sony forms the Sony Computer Entertainment of America company, to market the PlayStation CD-based video game system in the US, to be introduced in 1995.
  • 2004 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A character plays with a home video game system.
  • 2004 - Total shipments of PlayStation (including PS one) worldwide to date: 100 million.
  • 2005 - In Los Angeles, California, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is held, over three days.
  • 2007 - Ten wireless hot spots are opened at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Users with a Nintendo DS and the game Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End can download extra content at these hot spots not available anywhere else.
  • 2009 - Nintendo releases the Punch-Out!! video game for the Nintendo Wii in the USA. The game is a remake of a classic game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
  • 2010 - Capcom releases the Lost Planet 2 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2010 - Rockstar Games releases the Red Dead Redemption video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2010 - Microsoft Game Studios releases the Alan Wake video game for the Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2010 - Ubisoft releases the Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1160 - King Erik is killed by the Danish prince. He is buried in the church at Old Uppsala.
  • 1525 - A local peace treaty is signed at Kolshult between Värend and Blekinge.
  • 1905 - Norway's parliament passes a new consular bill, separate from Sweden's law.
  • 1998 - Montserrat issues a $1.50 postage stamp depicting King Gustav V of Sweden, part of a series on royalty of the 20th century.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. An old man walks down the street shouting "The Swedish are coming!".
  • 2022 - Sweden submits application to join NATO.

USA coin history:

  • 1875 - The Philadelphia Mint begins production of the 20-cent silver coin.
  • 1908 - US Congress mandates that "In God We Trust" appear on all US coins.
  • 1967 - US Treasury ceases selling silver at $1.2020 per ounce, and bans the private melting or export of US silver coins.
  • 1979 - The book The Buffalo Nickel, written by Annette Cohen and Ray Druley, is published.

Sports history:

  • 1880 - 6th Kentucky Derby: George Lewis aboard Fonso wins in 2:37.5.
  • 1897 - New York Giants' William Joyce sets record of four triples in one game.
  • 1912 - Philadelphia Athletics beat Detroit Tigers 24-2, who use amateurs protesting Ty Cobb's suspension.
  • 1920 - 46th Preakness: Clarence Kummer aboard Man O' War wins in 1:51.6.
  • 1929 - 55th Kentucky Derby: Linus McAtee on Clyde Van Dusen wins in 2:10.8.
  • 1929 - Brooklyn Dodgers beat Philadelphia Phillies 20-16 and lose 8-6 in second game (record 50 runs).
  • 1933 - First major league All-Star Game announced for July 6 at Comiskey Park. It will be played as part of the Chicago World's Fair.
  • 1934 - Jimmie Foxx hits first homerun in Comiskey Park center field bleachers.
  • 1935 - Harold Gimblett scores 123 in 80 minutes on cricket debut for Somerset.
  • 1942 - New York City ends night baseball games for the rest of war.
  • 1945 - Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Athletics both have seven straight games postponed due to rain.
  • 1947 - Philadelphia Athletics' catcher Warren Rosar catches his 147th game without an error.
  • 1955 - Atkinson and Depeiaza take West Indies from 6-187 to 6-494 in day versus Australia.
  • 1956 - Mickey Mantle hits homerun from both sides of plate for record third time.
  • 1957 - 83rd Preakness: Eddie Arcaro aboard Bold Ruler wins in 1:56.2.
  • 1958 - Wiffi Smith wins LPGA Peach Blossom Golf Open.
  • 1963 - 89th Preakness: Bill Shoemaker aboard Candy Spots wins in 1:56.2.
  • 1968 - 94th Preakness: Ismael Valenzuela aboard Forward Pass wins in 1:56.8.
  • 1968 - Al Kaline hits his 307th homerun, surpassing Hank Greenberg as a Detroit Tiger.
  • 1968 - Frank Howard ties American League record with homerun in his sixth consecutive game; his ten homeruns are the most in six games.
  • 1969 - Sandra Haynie wins LPGA Saint Louis Women's Golf Invitational.
  • 1971 - 4th ABA Championship: Utah Stars beat Kentucky Colonels, 4 games to 3.
  • 1971 - Stanley Cup: Montreal Canadiens beat Chicago Blackhawks, 4 games to 3.

  • 1985 - 111th Preakness: Pat Day aboard Tank's Prospect wins in 1:53.4.

  • 1986 - Chung Kwung Ying does 2,750 "atomic" hand-stand push-ups.

  • 1980 - Death of David A. Johnston, American volcanoligist, victim of Mount Saint Helens' eruption (born 1949).
  • 1982 - Unification Church founder Reverend Sun Myung Moon convicted of tax evasion.
  • 1983 - US Senate revises immigration laws, gives millions of illegal aliens legal status under an amnesty program.
  • 1990 - The United States Postal Service introduces the world's first sheet of postage stamps designed for dispensing by automated bank teller machine. The sheet of twelve peel-and-stick 25-cent stamps is the same thickness and dimensions of paper currency, and sells for $3, the face value of the stamps.
  • 1992 - US Supreme Court rules states could not force mentally unstable criminal defendants to take anti-psychotic drugs.
