  • 1976 - Hewlett-Packard grants a release to Steve Wozniak for his Apple computer.
  • 1977 - MITS files for a restraining order against Microsoft, to prevent Microsoft from licensing 8080 BASIC until the dispute with MITS is resolved.
  • 1988 - WordPerfect ships WordPerfect 5.0 for US$500.
  • 1999 - IBM unveils the IBM WorkPad z50 handheld computer. It features Windows CE, 64,000-color 8.2-inch LCD screen, NEC MIPS 133 MHz processor, 20 MB ROM, 16 MB RAM, keyboard, 33 kbps modem, 8-hour battery life. Weight is 2.6 pounds; price is US$999.
  • 1999 - National Semiconductor announces its intention to sells its Cyrix division.
  • 1999 - Macao issues two postage stamps with a telecommunictions theme, depicting the Internet, and a computer mouse.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1930 - The first Mickey Mouse comic strip drawn and inked by Floyd Gottfredson is published.
  • 1984 - The Disney Channel begins airing a DTV series of music videos, using Disney cartoons and popular songs.
  • 1985 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film The Undergrads.
  • 1987 - Disneyland debuts "Disney Dollars", a creation of Jack Lindquist. Mickey Mouse and Sleeping Beauty's Castle are on the $1 bill, Goofy and the Mark Twain Riverboat are on the $5 bill.
  • 1990 - The Disney Channel begins airing the Tale Spin animated series.
  • 1994 - St. Vincent issues twenty postage stamps depicting various Disney characters.
  • 1994 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A doctor refers to "the evil gene", saying "Walt Disney had it".
  • 1996 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character says "It's like a freakin' Country Bear Jambaroo around here!", a reference to Disneyland's Country Bear Jamboree attraction.
  • 2005 - Disneyland begins an 18-month-long anniversary celebration of its 50th birthday.
  • 2005 - The film Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years is released in the Opera House on Main Street at Disneyland.
  • 2005 - The Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters attraction opens in Disneyland.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1967 - The Nebraska Corvette Association is formed.
  • 1973 - At the Lime Rock Park raceway in Lime Rock, Connecticut, the Schaefer Trans-Am 500 is held, part of the SCCA Trans-American Championship series.
    • Finishing 5th is the Jim Robbins Co. Corvette, driven by J. Marshall Robbins and Jerry Thompson.

  • 2002 - The two Corvette C5-R cars participate in a one-day test of the Paris Le Mans circuit, prior to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
  • 2003 - Saint Vincent issues seven postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of Corvette.
  • 2019 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, USA, the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio race is held, round 4 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 2nd in GT Le Mans class and 13th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen.

World War II history:

  • 1934 - The 1932 non-aggression pact betwen the Soviet Union and Poland is extended to the end of 1945.
  • 1940 - The Norwegian mountain fortress Hegra surrenders.
  • 1940 - German armed merchant raider Widder leaves Germany.
  • 1941 - Italians surrender in East Africa.
  • 1941 - Haile Selassie returns to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to reclaim his throne.
  • 1941 - Soviet military intelligence reports about 105 German divisions concentrated in the east, facing the Soviet Union.
  • 1941 - Tokyo signals its embassy in Washington, warning that coded messages are being read by the Americans.
  • 1941 - British Defence Committee transfers control of operations in Iraq to the Middle East Command under General Sir Archibald Wavell.
  • 1942 - The Japanese Striking Force under Vice-Admiral Takagi with the carriers Shokaku and Zuikaku enter the Coral Sea.
  • 1942 - Japanese forces invade Tulagi in the Solomon Islands.

  • 1945 - The French Government asks the Spanish Government for the extradition of former Vichy Premier Pierre Laval.
  • 1945 - Russian forces capture the German naval base of Swinemünde on Usedom Island.
  • 1945 - American forces free prisoners of Itter Castle in Austria. Included among them are former French Premiers Edouard Daladier and Paul Reynaud, and French Generals Maurice-Gustave Gamelin and Maxime Weygand.
  • 1945 - US 24th Division liberates Davao on Mindanao, Philippines.
  • 1945 - In Wageningen, Netherlands, German General Johannes Blaskowitz surrenders the troops of the 25th German Army in Netherlands to Lieutenant-General Charles Foulkes, commander of 1st Canadian Corps.
  • 1945 - (1430 hours) Army Group G of 200-400,000 men surrenders to General Jacob Devers and the US 6th Army Group. Lieutenant General Foertsch signs for Germany. The official cease-fire and surrender is to take effect at noon May 6.
  • 1945 - (1600+ hours) German 11th Panzer Division surrenders to US 90th Division in Czechoslovakia.
  • 1945 - (1700+ hours) General Hans von Friedeburg and Colonel Fritz Poleck of the German High Command meet with Eisenhower's Chief of Staff General Walter Smith in Rheims, France. Eisenhower's terms of unconditional surrender of all German forces are communicated.
  • 1945 - (about 2000 hours) From Rheims, France, General Hans von Friedeburg sends a message to Karl Dönitz informing him of General Walter Smith's proposals for surrender: either give Friedeburg full authority to make unconditional surrender, or for the chief of General staff and commanders of army, navy, and air force be sent with authority for unconditional surrender.
  • 1945 - (evening) British troops enter Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • 1955 - The Allied occupation of West Germany ends. The Federal Republic of Germany becomes independent sovereign state with the ratification of Paris agreements in Bonn, Germany.
  • 1955 - Czechoslovakia issues four postage stamps marking the 10th anniversary of liberation from German control.
  • 1960 - Czechoslovakia issues five postage stamps marking the 15th anniversary of liberation from German control.
  • 1960 - The German Democratic Republic issues a postage stamp marking the 15th anniversary of liberation.

Video game history:

  • 1951 - In London, England, Ferranti shows the Nimrod computer at the Festival of Britain exhibition. The computer is based on the Mark 1, and is dedicated to playing the game Nim. This makes it the world's first games computer.
  • 1994 - Nintendo confirms its Project Reality video game system will be cartridge-based.
  • 1996 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. Two arcade games are shown: "Great White Hunter", and "Nuke".
  • 2004 - Activision releases the Shrek 2 video game for the GameCube, Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, and Xbox in the US.
  • 2006 - Nintendo announces there will be over 30 game titles available for the Wii within the launch window.
  • 2017 - Bethesda releases the Prey video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1631 - King Gustav Adolf makes a treaty to gain possession of Spandau.
  • 1912 - (to July 22) The 5th Olympic Games are held in Stockholm. Sweden wins 24 gold, 24 silver, and 16 bronze medals.
  • 1949 - In London, England, the Statute of the Council of Europe is signed by representatives of ten countries, including Sweden. The Council is set up to create greater unity in Europe.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1965 - The Board of Judges appointed to choose 1967 coin designs from submitted drawings meets for the first time. During this and subsequent meetings, it is determined that none are completely satisfactory. The Board recommends that a new competition be held, by invitation only, among five selected artists.

USA coin history:

  • 1800 - The US Senate passes a bill seeking to abolish the Mint and contract for coinage with the Bank of the United States.
  • 1936 - Congress authorizes 1936 Cleveland Centennial and Great Lakes Exposition commemorative half dollars.

Sports history:

  • 1863 - Joe Coburn knocks out Mike McCoole for US boxing title in 63rd round.
  • 1904 - Cy Young of Boston Red Sox pitches perfect game against Philadelphia Athletics (3-0).
