Personal computer history:

  • 1977 - Apple Computer introduces the Apple II at the West Coast Computer Faire. The computer features a 6502 CPU, 4 kB RAM, 16 kB ROM, keyboard, 8-slot motherboard, game paddles, graphics/text interface to color display, and built-in BASIC, for US$1298. It is the first personal computer with color graphics.
  • 1997 - Apple Computer reports a first quarter loss of $740 million, largest quarter loss ever for a Silicon Valley company.
  • 2002 - Advanced Micro Devices announces the Mobile Athlon XP 1400+ (1.2 GHz), 1500+ (1.3 and 1.33 GHz), 1600+ (1.4 GHz), and 1700+ (1.47 GHz) processors. They feature 200 or 266 MHz bus (1700+ is 266 MHz only). The processors are manufactured with a 0.13-micron technology, based on the processor core code-named Thoroughbred.
  • 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A scene from the future shows someone with a laptop computer.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1937 - The Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Amateurs is released to theaters. Donald Duck, Clara Cluck, Clarabelle Cow, and Goofy also appear.
  • 1957 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled More About the Silly Symphonies.
  • 1961 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Documentary, Features) for the film The Horse with the Flying Tail.
  • 1961 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Honorary Award) to Hayley Mills for most outstanding juvenile performance of 1960, in the film Pollyanna.
  • 1964 - The Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln exhibit is shipped from California to New York.
  • 1991 - Henson Associates files a lawsuit against the Walt Disney Company, charging theft of its characters in merchandise, attractions, and advertising.
  • 1993 - The Tahitian Terrace restaurant at Disneyland closes.
  • 1994 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film On Promised Land.
  • 1996 - Grenada Grenadines issues eight postage stamps depicting Disney characters celebrating various holidays.
  • 2009 - The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique store opens in Disneyland.
  • 2014 - Disney releases the Disneynature film Bears to theaters in Argentina.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 2005 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, the Grand Prix of Atlanta race is held, round three of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT series.
    • Finishing 5th is the Banner Engineering #6 Corvette C6, driven by Leighton Reese.
    • Finishing 10th is the Blackdog Racing #34 Corvette C6, driven by Tony Gaples.
    • Finishing 18th is the Doug Rippie Motorsports #9 Corvette Z06, driven by Adam Malmquist.
    • In 23rd place, but not finishing the race, is the LG Pro Long Tube Headers #28 Corvette C6, driven by Lou Gigliotti.
    • In 25th place, but not finishing the race, is the Tom Oates Chevrolet #99 Corvette Z06, driven by Chip Herr.
    • In 27th place, but not finishing the race, is the EG Braswell Construction #32 Corvette Z06, driven by Ed Braswell.

  • 2005 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, the Sportsbook.com Grand Prix of Atlanta is held, round two of the American Le Mans Series.
    • Finishing 1st in GT1 class and 5th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C6-R driven by Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell.
    • Finishing 2nd in GT1 class and 6th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C6-R driven by Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta.
    • Finishing 5th in GT1 class an 9th overall is the Corvette C5-R driven by Ryan Dalziel and Alex Figge.

World War II history:

  • 1941 - Yugoslavia signs an armistice with Germany.
  • 1942 - (1500 hours) Twelve British Lancaster bombers set off on a 1250 mile round trip to attack a diesel engine manufacturing complex at Augsburg in Bavaria. Twelve 1,000 pound bombs hit the target. Only five planes return, all badly damaged.
  • 1943 - 110 American B-17 bombers attack the Focke-Wulf works outside Bremen. 16 planes are shot down.
  • 1944 - British government imposes a ban on diplomatic pouches leaving the UK, except US and USSR, to help prevent information being leaked about the invasion of Europe.
  • 1945 - Canadian 1st Division forces capture Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
  • 1945 - Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz is appointed Commander-in-Chief of Operations Staff (North).
  • 1945 - American bombers attack Dresden, Germany.
  • 1945 - (evening) General Dwight Eisenhower decides to cease fighting west of Utrecht for the sake of the Dutch people.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1982 - The first 1982 commemorative nickel dollar struck for circulation is presented by the Minister of Supply and Services to Queen Elizabeth II, during her Royal visit to Canada. The Minister announces that the coin would be available to the public by July 1.

USA coin history:

  • 1874 - US Mint engraver William Barber suggests applying legend "E Pluribus Unum" to the edge of the 20-cent coin.
  • 1983 - First National Coin Week begins.
  • 2008 - At the Central States Numismatic Society convention, in Rosemont, Illinois, Heritage Auction Galleries hosts the US Coin Signature Auction. Some highlights:

  • 1869 - First professional baseball game: Cincinnati Reds 24, Cincinnati amateurs 15.

  • 1920 - American Professional Football Association forms (later NFL).
  • 1923 - Longest National League opening game, Philadelphia Phillies and Brooklyn Dodgers tie 5-5 in 14.
  • 1933 - Chicago Bears win their first NFL game beating New York Giants 23-21.

  • 1939 - Joe Louis knocks out Jack Roper in one for heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1947 - Jackie Robinson bunts for his first major league hit.
  • 1953 - Mickey Mantle hits a 565-foot (172-metre) homerun in Washington DC's Griffith Stadium.
  • 1955 - Betty Jameson wins LPGA Babe Didrikson-Zaharias Golf Open.
  • 1956 - Willie Mosconi sinks 150 consecutive balls in a billiard tournament.
  • 1960 - Cleveland Indians trade Rocky Colavito to Detroit Tigers for Harvey Kuenn.
  • 1964 - First game at Shea Stadium, New York Mets lose to Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3.
  • 1966 - 100th international soccer meet between Netherlands-Belgium (3-1).
  • 1966 - Carol Mann wins LPGA Raleigh Ladies Golf Invitational.

  • 1981 - New York Rangers' Anders Hedberg is second to score on a Stanley Cup penalty shot.
  • 1981 - New York Islanders' Potvin's three playoff power-play goals tie NHL record versus Edmonton Oilers.
  • 1983 - New York Islanders tie NHL record with three shorthanded playoff goals versus New York Rangers; Rangers 7-Islanders 6-Patrick Division Finals- Islanders hold 2-1 lead; Wayne Gretzky scores 7 goals.
  • 1983 - Lynn Adams wins LPGA Combanks Orlando Golf Classic.
  • 1983 - Baseball pitcher Nolan Ryan strikes out his 3,500th batter.
  • 1983 - Grete Waltz runs female world record marathon (2:25:29).
  • 1984 - Atlanta Braves' pitcher Pascual Perez suspended due to cocaine usage.
  • 1987 - Julius Erving becomes the third NBA player to score 30,000 points.
  • 1988 - Ethiopian Belayneh Densimo runs world record marathon (2:06:50).
  • 1988 - Nancy Lopez wins LPGA AI Star/Centinela Hospital Golf Classic.
  • 1989 - 18th Boston Women's Marathon won by Ingrid Kristiansen of Norway in 2:24:33.
  • 1989 - 93rd Boston Marathon won by Abebe Mekonen of Ethiopia in 2:09:06.
  • 1994 - 55th PGA Seniors Golf Championship: Lee Trevino wins.
  • 1994 - Val Skinner wins LPGA Atlanta Women's Golf Championship.
  • 1995 - 24th Boston Women's Marathon won by Uta Pippig of Germany in 2:25:11.

  • 1997 - New Jersey Devils' goalie Martin Brodeur is second NHL goalie to score in a playoff game.
  • 2007 - The 2014 Asian Games is awarded to be held in Incheon, South Korea, winning over India's New Delhi.
  • 2008 - In Tokyo, Japan, a high school regional baseball game is halted in the second inning, after one team had scored 66 runs. The coach of the losing team asked for the game to end to spare his pitcher's arm, with over 250 pitches already thrown.
  • 2010 - Lucian Bute retains his International Boxing Federation super middleweight title with a third-round stoppage of challenger Edison Miranda in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
  • 2010 - Cheryl Bernard beats fellow Calgarian Crystal Webster 6-4 in the final of the Grey Power Players' Championship curling event in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Diego Padres beats Atlanta Braves by score 2-1.
  • 2022 - At T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Seattle Mariners beats Houton Astros by score 7-2.
