  • 1992 - US District Court Judge Vaughn Walker makes a ruling in the Apple Computer versus Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard lawsuit, stating that most of the elements in Apple Computer's suit were covered by Apple Computer's agreement with Microsoft, or were not copyrightable.
  • 1997 - Motorola Computer Group announces the StarMax 5000 series of Macintosh-compatible computers. They feature 225 to 300 MHz PowerPC 603e processors, 50 MHz bus speed, 512 kB L2 cache, 50 MHz bus, 32 MB RAM, ATI 3D Rage II+ graphics, 16X CD-ROM drive, 2.5 or 4.3 GB hard drive, 10Base-T Ethernet, Mac OS 7.6, and 100 MB Zip drive. Price ranges from US$1999 to US$3399.
  • 2004 - Lindows renames its operating system from Lindows to Linspire.
  • 2004 - Nvidia unveils the GeForce 6800 series of graphics cards for personal computers.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1930 - Peg Leg Pete is added to the Mickey Mouse comic strip series.
  • 1934 - The Silly Symphony film The Big Bad Wolf is released.
  • 1962 - The Spring Fling night-time event is first held at Disneyland. For a single entrance fee, guests have unlimited use of all rides.
  • 1969 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Short Subjects, Cartoons) for the film Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.
  • 1981 - Grenada Grenadines issues four postage stamps depicting various Disney characters coloring Easter eggs.
  • 1982 - The CBS TV network airs the last episode of the TV series Herbie, the Love Bug. Only five episodes were produced.
  • 1984 - The new Alice in Wonderland ride opens in Fantasyland at Disneyland.
  • 1989 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Disorganized Crime to theaters in the US.
  • 2000 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Keeping the Faith to theaters in the USA.
  • 2006 - Disney releases the computer-animated feature film The Wild in theaters in the USA.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1985 - Hendricks Motorsports tests the Corvette GTP race car at Road Atlanta. The car runs 0.2 seconds faster than the lap record.
  • 2002 - In Long Beach, California, the Johnson Controls 100 race is held, Round 1 of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup.
    • Finishing 5th is the Cenweld Corp. / McNichols Co. #23 Corvette, driven by Bob Ruman.

  • 2018 - At the Grand Prix of Long Beach in Long Beach, California, USA, the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach race is held, round 3 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 11th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C7.R driven by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin.
    • Finishing 4th in GT Le Mans class and 14th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - British troops land in Norway near Trondheim and Narvik.
  • 1940 - Soviet Foreign Minister Vyadieslav Molotov informs the German government that Russia is vitally interested in Sweden remaining neutral.
  • 1940 - Allies land at Namsos, Norway.
  • 1940 - Belgians report to French intelligence that Germans have turned their attention to the Ardennes area.
  • 1943 - (evening) About 500 British bombers attack Stuttgart, Germany.
  • 1944 - In the harbor in Bombay, India, American cargo ship SS Fort Stikine explodes. It was carrying 1395 tons of explosives, and gold for the Indian Treasury. Ten nearby ships are destroyed, 500 people are killed, and 8000 injured.
  • 1944 - In the North Atlantic, Royal Canadian Navy frigate Swansea and Royal Navy sloop Pelican sink German submarine U-448.
  • 1945 - SS Reichführer Heinrich Himmler orders that no prisoners of Dachau concentration camp be allowed into enemy hands alive.
  • 1945 - 1st Canadian Corps takes Arnhem.
  • 1945 - (evening) 512 British bombers attack Potsdam.
  • 2005 - The Gambia issues six postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1994 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character's mansion includes an unnamed arcade video game.
  • 2001 - Nintendo releases the Doubutsu no Mori (Animal Forest) video game for the Nintendo 64 in Japan.
  • 2003 - Sony Computer Entertainment announces an updated PlayStation 2 in Japan, to be available May 15. It features support for progressive scan DVD playback, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs, built-in infrared receiver, quieter fan, and removed IEEE 1394 FireWire port.
  • 2004 - Microsoft releases a Special Edition Xbox bundle with the Halo video game in the US. The system comes in a bright translucent green case, instead of the standard black. 200,000 packages are available, priced at US$169.
  • 2004 - Nokia announces the N-Gage QD handheld video game system. The unit is a redesigned N-Gage, about 20 percent smaller, with more comfortable use as a cell-phone. The speaker and microphone are mounted on the front, and the multimedia card slot is located on the bottom edge. It is expected to go on sale starting in May in Europe.
  • 2006 - ComputerWorld Canada newspaper features an article Enterprise enters the gaming world including a close-up picture of a Sony PlayStation controller.
  • 2006 - ComputerWorld Canada newspaper includes an article Gaming has some lessons for software developers including a picture of Nintendo's Mario character climbing out of a personal computer monitor.

Swedish history:

  • 1632 - King Gustav Adolf's army quickly drives out the garrison of Augsburg, and is welcomed into the town.
  • 1927 - Volvo produces its first production line car, the Jakob, in Göteborg. The car has a 28-hp 4-cylinder engine, and costs 4800 kronor. About 200 are produced. The company name was chosen because it means "I roll" in Latin.
  • 1996 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A barbershop is named "Snippy Longstockings", a humorous reference to Pippi Longstocking.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1851 - An Order-in-Council in England disallows the Canadian Currency Act of 1850.
  • 1871 - The Uniform Currency Act receives royal assent. The Act sets denominations of currency in Canada as dollars, cents, and mills. The value of a British gold sovereign is set at $5. Silver and copper coins of other countries are no longer legal tender. Foreign gold coins may be allowed, specifically the US $10 gold (Eagle) minted after 1834, with a value set at $10. The Act is set to take effect as of July 1, 1871.
  • 2010 - The Royal Canadian Mint issues a 2010 Coin Collector Card - RCMP, including a set of six 1-cent through $2 circulating coins (excluding 50-cent coin). Issue price is $19.95.

USA coin history:

  • 1792 - President George Wash appoints David Rittenhouse as first director of the Mint, and the US Senate confirms the nomination.

Sports history:

  • 1917 - Chicago White Sox pitcher Ed Cicotte no-hits Saint Louis Browns, 11-0.
  • 1921 - NHL Championship: Ottawa Senators sweep Toronto Saint Patricks in two games.
  • 1928 - NHL Stanley Cup: New York Rangers beat Montréal Maroons, 3 games to 2.
  • 1931 - NHL Stanley Cup: Montreal Canadiens beat Chicago Blackhawks, 3 games to 2.
  • 1946 - Manager Mel Ott of New York Giants hits 511th and final homerun.
  • 1948 - Stanley Cup: NHL Toronto Maple Leafs sweep Detroit Red Wings in four games.
  • 1955 - NHL Stanley Cup: Detroit Red Wings beat Montreal Canadiens, 4 games to 3.
  • 1957 - Leah Neuberger wins her 8th women's singles ping pong championship.
  • 1957 - Wiffi Smith wins LPGA Dallas Golf Open.
  • 1960 - Stanley Cup: Montreal Canadiens sweep Toronto Maple Leafs in four games.
  • 1964 - Sandy Koufax throws his 9th complete game without allowing a walk.
  • 1967 - Boston Red Sox rookie Billy Rohome comes within one strike of a no hitter at Yankee Stadium, Elston Howard singles on a 3-2 pitch.
  • 1968 - First NBA game at Madison Square Garden, New York Knicks beat San Diego Clippers.
  • 1968 - 32nd Golf Masters Championship: Bob Goalby wins, shooting a 277.
  • 1968 - Marilynn Smith wins LPGA O'Sullivan Golf Open.
  • 1968 - Roberto de Vicenzo loses Masters for signing an incorrect score card.
  • 1969 - The first Major League Baseball regular season game is played outside the United States, in Montréal, Québec, Canada, as the Montreal Expos play the Saint Louis Cardinals at Jarry Park. The Expos win 8-7.
  • 1974 - 38th Golf Masters Championship: Gary Player wins, shooting a 278.
  • 1983 - New York Islanders tie own record with two shorthanded playoff goals in a period versus New York Rangers.
  • 1983 - North Carolina State beats Houston for NCAA basketball title.
  • 1985 - 49th Golf Masters Championship: Bernhard Langer wins, shooting a 282.
  • 1985 - Ahmed Salah wins first World Cup marathon (2:08:09).
  • 1985 - Beth Daniel wins LPGA Kyocera Inamori Golf Classic.
  • 1985 - Bob Carpenter is unsuccessful on Washington Capitals first playoff penalty shot.
  • 1988 - New Jersey Devils 6-5 over New York Islanders-Devils take first round 4-2.
  • 1991 - 55th Golf Masters Championship: Ian Woosnam wins, shooting a 277.

  • 1980 - 52nd Academy Awards: Best Picture: Kramer versus Kramer, Best Actor: Dustin Hoffman, Best Actress: Sally Field, Best Foreign Film: Die Blechtrommel (The Tin Drum) (first Oscar award for a German film).
  • 1981 - First Space Shuttle - Columbia 1 - returns to Earth.
  • 1983 - US President Ronald Reagan signs US$165 billion Social Security rescue.
  • 1986 - 21st Academy of Country Music Awards: George Strait, Alabama, Reba McEntire.
  • 1988 - USSR, US, Pakistan, and Afghanistan sign Afghanistan treaty (Geneva Accords). The Soviet Union commits itself to withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan.

  • 1989 - In the Iran-Contra trial, Oliver North's case goes to the jury.
  • 1992 - Court throws out Apple Computer's lawsuit against Microsoft.
  • 1992 - United Auto Workers ends five month strike against Caterpillar Inc.
  • 1993 - Branch Davidian cult leader David Koresh promises to surrender after completion of his Seven Seals manuscript.
  • 1994 - US F-15 accidentally shoots two US helicopters down over Iraq, 26 die.
  • 1995 - In Western Texas, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurs.
  • 2008 - Delta Air Lines announces it will acquire Northwest Airlines for US$3 billion in stock, creating the world's biggest airline.
  • 2018 - The United States, the United Kingdom and France order the bombing of Syrian military bases in response to the sarin attack allegedly by the Bashar al-Assad regime on civilians in Ghouta.

Other history:

  • 1912 - The RMS Titanic, launched on 31 May 1911, on route from Southampton to New York with 2200 passengers, strikes iceberg off the coast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, at approximately 11:30pm, and sinks early the next morning (1500+ death toll).
  • 1978 - Korean Air Lines Boeing 707, fired on by Soviets, crashes in Russia.
  • 1981 - First Space Shuttle - Columbia 1 - returns to Earth.
  • 2003 - The Human Genome Project is successfully completed, with 99% of the human genome sequenced to 99.99% accuracy.
  • 2008 - Italian general election: Silvio Berlusconi wins election as prime minister for the third time. His People of Freedom Party wins 413 of 630 seats in the lower chamber.
  • 2008 - Delta Air Lines announces it will acquire Northwest Airlines for US$3 billion in stock, creating the world's biggest airline.
