Since 1995, I have been collecting information on a variety of topics, creating several timelines of history. Personal computer history:

  • 1983 - Commodore International announces a rebate program for new purchasers of the Commodore 64. Those people mailing in a used video game system or computer would receive a US$100 rebate.
  • 1984 - Amstrad releases the CPC 464 personal computer in the UK. It features Z80 processor, 64 kB RAM, green monitor or color, keyboard, and tape drive. Price is 200-300 pounds.
  • 1985 - At an Apple Computer board meeting, John Sculley asks Steve Jobs to step down as head of the Macintosh division. The other executives agree.
  • 1989 - At the Comdex show, Atari Computer introduces the Portfolio portable computer. It features keyboard, MS-DOS, 128 KB RAM, 8 line by 40 character wide LCD display, uses memory cards, uses 3 AA batteries, includes word processor, spreadsheet, address book, calendar, and calculator. Weight is one pound; the system is about the size of a videocassette. Price is to be US$399 when released in June
  • 1999 - In San Diego, California, the DemoMobile 99 Conference is held, over three days. IBM announces the WorkPad z50 portable computer. It features 8.2-inch VGA 64,000 color screen, 131 MHz NEC VR4121 RISC processor, Windows CE operating system. Size is 10.2 x 8 x 1 inches; weight is 2.6 pounds; price is US$999.
  • 2000 - Research in Motion of Canada releases the RIM 957 Wireless Handheld computer. It features Intel 386 processor, 5 MB Flash RAM, built-in keyboard, wireless modem, monochrome screen. Weight is 5.3 ounces; price is US$499.
  • 2001 - Ecuador issues a 68-cent postage stamp depicting a personal computer.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1931 - The Silly Symphony film Mother Goose Melodies is completed.
  • 1984 - Roy Disney announces that he owns 4.1 percent of Disney stock, following purchases made in mid-March.
  • 1984 - Reliance Group Holdings now owns 9.3 percent of outstanding Disney stock, making it by far the largest single shareholder.
  • 1986 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Off Beat to theatres.
  • 1992 - Euro Disneyland opens for VIPs and press preview.
  • 1992 - The CBS TV network airs The Grand Opening of the Euro Disney Resort.
  • 1992 - The Beauty and the Beast stage show begins performances at the Videopolis in Disneyland.
  • 1993 - The Pooh Corner shop opens in Critter Country at Disneyland.
  • 1994 - The Gambia issues fifteen postage stamps depicting various Disney dog characters for the Lunar calendar Year of the Dog.
  • 1994 - The Gambia issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters celebrating Easter.
  • 1994 - The TV Show Mike & Maty debuts.
  • 1997 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Grosse Pointe Blank to theaters in the USA.
  • 1999 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • An in-store promotional video with a man from "Toolin' Around" resembles the show-within-a-show "Tool Time" from Disney's Home Improvement TV series.
    • A character plans to turn junk including "Disney memorabilia and antiques into something valuable".

  • 2003 - The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction opens in Critter Country at Disneyland.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1956 - Chevrolet sells the EX-122 Corvette to Russell Sanders, assistant Chief Engineer of Chevrolet.
  • 1991 - At Lime Rock Park, the first race of the IMSA Bridgestone Potenza Supercar Championship series is held.
    • Kim Baker finishes second in the MerCruiser Corvette ZR-1, 3.5 seconds behind the winner.
    • In fifth place is Jay Sperry in the Outpost Hunt & Sport Corvette. In twelfth place is Jim Minneker in a second MerCruiser Corvette ZR-1.
    • A Callaway Corvette is raced by Boris Said, but does not complete the race.

  • 2019 - In New York City, Chevrolet announces the next-generation Corvette C8.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - Adolf Hitler issues a Directive for the Armed Forces regarding the invasion of Poland.
  • 1940 - (early) British submarine HMS Spearfish attacks pocket battleship Admiral Scheer.
  • 1940 - An Allied Expeditionary Force leaves Clyde en route to Narvik, Norway.
  • 1940 - (night) British Bomber Command planes over Norway make their first attack on a mainland target, the airfield at Stavanger.
  • 1943 - In Tunisia, Messe's army reaches Enfidaville, linking up with Deitrich Von Arnim's 5th Panzer Army.
  • 1944 - (evening) 362 British bombers attack targets in Aachen.
  • 1945 - Japan begins Kamikaze attacks on US shipping off Okinawa.
  • 1945 - Coblenz and Essen are captured by the Allies.
  • 1945 - American forces liberate the Buchenwald concentration camp.
  • 1945 - 129 British Halifax bombers make an accurate aerial attack on rail targets in Nuremburg, Germany.
  • 1945 - 122 British bombers make an aerial attack on Bayreuth, Germany, causing severe damage.
  • 1945 - (1530 hours) In the Netherlands, Operation Cannonshot begins, with the 1st Canadian Infantry Division crossing the Ijssel River, aiming for Apeldoorn. By 2100 hours, a secure bridgehead is established.

Video game history:

  • 1983 - Nintendo's Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln begin negotiations with Atari on the manufacture and distribution of a Nintendo-designed video game system. Nintendo demonstrates a prototype Family Computer running Donkey Kong and Popeye.
  • 1991 - US District Court Judge Fern Smith agrees to allow Tengen (part of Atari Games) to sell its game cartridges for the Nintendo Entertainment System, pending the outcome of an appeal.
  • 1992 - Nintendo releases the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in the UK. Price is 149 pounds.
  • 2001 - Indrema, of Alameda, California, announces it is unable to continue development of its proposed L600 video game system based on the Linux operating system, and is going out of business.
  • 2003 - Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox in Europe to 199 euros (about US$214) on the continent, and 129 pounds (about US$202) in Britain.
  • 2005 - Rockstar releases the Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2006 - Eidos releases the Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 in the USA.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1986 - At the Bowers and Merena auction in New York City, a 1921 50c coin in MS-60 to MS-63 condition sells for US$22,000 (CDN$30,000).
  • 2012 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases 2012 $1 and $2 coins struck in a multi-ply plated steel alloy. The $1 coin has a brass outer plating, the $2 coin has and outer ring of nickel plating with an aluminum bronze plated center. The coins feature new security features: laser marks, virtual images, edge lettering.

USA coin history:

  • 1930 - Panama passes a law for new coinage of the same size, weight, silver content, and denominations as US coins.
  • 1969 - US Treasury lifts the ban on private melting of US silver coins.

Sports history:

  • 1907 - New York Giants' Roger Bresnahan becomes first catcher to wear shin guards.
  • 1917 - Babe Ruth beats New York Yankees, pitching 3-hit 10-3 win for Boston Red Sox.
  • 1921 - KDKA broadcasts the first radio sporting event, a boxing match (Johnny Ray vs Johnny Dundee).
  • 1924 - First men's college swimming championships begin.
  • 1936 - NHL Stanley Cup: Detroit Red Wings beat Toronto Maple Leafs, three games to one.
  • 1948 - 12th Golf Masters Championship: Claude Harmon wins, shooting a 279.
  • 1954 - Marlene Bauer wins LPGA New Orleans Golf Open.
  • 1959 - Los Angeles Dodgers' pitcher Don Drysdale hits his second Opening Day homerun.
  • 1961 - 15th NBA Championship: Boston Celtics beat Saint Louis Hawks, 4 games to 1.
  • 1962 - New York Mets make a losing debut.
  • 1963 - Warren Spahn beats New York Mets 6-1 for his 328th win (most by a lefty).
  • 1965 - 29th Golf Masters Championship: Jack Nicklaus wins, shooting a 271.
  • 1966 - 30th Golf Masters Championship: Jack Nicklaus wins, shooting a 288; Jack Nicklaus is the first man to win consecutive Masters.
  • 1970 - San Francisco Giants beat Cincinnati Reds 2-1, only day Cincinnati Reds aren't in first place in 1970.
  • 1971 - 35th Golf Masters Championship: Charles Coody wins, shooting a 279.
  • 1975 - Hank Aaron returns as a Milwaukee Brewers' player.
  • 1976 - 40th Golf Masters Championship: Ray Floyd wins, shooting a 271.
  • 1981 - Larry Holmes beats Trevor Holmes in 15 rounds for heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1982 - 46th Golf Masters Championship: Craig Stadler wins, shooting a 284.
  • 1983 - 47th Golf Masters Championship: Seve Ballesteros wins, shooting a 280.
  • 1987 - New York Yankees score 12 runs in 7th inning versus Kansas City Royals.
  • 1987 - Zoja Ivanova wins second female World Cup marathon (2:30:39).
  • 1989 - First playoff goal scored by a goalee, Ron Hextall of the Philadelphia Flyers.
  • 1989 - Philadelphia Flyers score short-handed into an empty net beating Washington Capitals 8-5.
  • 1990 - California Angels' Mark Langston and Mike Witt, no-hit Seattle Mariners, 1-0.
  • 1990 - New York Rangers beat New York Islanders 6-1, Rangers lead 3-1 in preliminary.
  • 1992 - BPAA US Open won by Robert Lawrence.
  • 1992 - Cleveland Indians set team record for long game lose to Boston Red Sox (19 innings - 6.5 hours).
  • 1993 - 57th Golf Masters Championship: Bernhard Langer wins, shooting a 277.
  • 1993 - Jeff Rouse swims world record 100 metre backstroke (51.43 seconds).
  • 1996 - Detroit Red Wings become second NHL team to win 60 games in a season.
  • 1999 - 63rd Golf Masters Championship.
  • 2000 - Hansie Cronje, cricketer of South Africa, confesses to having accepted money from Indian bookmakers to manipulate a number of South Africa's international cricket matches.
  • 2004 - Phil Mickelson wins The Masters Tournament, his first Men's major golf championship.
  • 2006 - US Vice President Dick Cheney throws out the ceremonial first pitch at the home opener at RFK Stadium.
  • 2010 - American golfer Phil Mickelson scores a 16-under-par 272 victory in the Masters.
  • 2021 - Hideki Matsuyama wins the 2021 Masters Tournament, becoming the first man from Japan to win a major golf championship.
  • 2022 - At Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Diego Padres beats San Francisco Giants by score 4-2.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Miami Marlins by score 6-2.
