Personal computer history:

  • 1989 - The Spring COMDEX trade show is held, in Chicago, Illinois.
  • 1989 - At the Comdex show, Intel announces the 25 MHz i486 microprocessor. It integrates the 386, 387 math coprocessor, and adds an 8 kB primary cache. It uses 1.2 million transistors, employing 1-micron technology. Initial price is US$900. Speed is 20 MIPS. Bus speed is 25 MHz.
  • 1989 - At the Comdex show, Intel introduces the 33 MHz version of the 80386DX microprocessor and 80387 math co-processor. This version of the 387 incorporates new technology, making it inherently faster than previous 387 chips.
  • 1989 - At Comdex, Toshiba America shows a working prototype of the Toshiba T-5200 portable computer, with a 11-inch diagonal 16-color 640x480 pixel LCD display.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - Walt delivers the first Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon, Poor Papa, to Charles Mintz in New York. The reviewers are unimpressed, complaining that the rabbit is old, sloppy, and fat.
  • 1930 - The Mickey Mouse film The Barnyard Concert is released.
  • 1942 - The Donald Duck film Donald's Snow Fight is released to theaters. Huey, Dewey, and Louie also appear.
  • 1942 - The film Fantasia is generally released in theaters.
  • 1957 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled People of the Desert. The films Navajo Adventure and The Blue Men of Morocco are shown.
  • 1961 - The Monorail is temporarily shut down for extension to the Disneyland Hotel.
  • 1966 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, entitled Concho, the Coyote Who Wasn't.
  • 1972 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Special Visual Effects) for the film Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
  • 1974 - The TV special Sandy in Disneyland airs, starring Sandy Duncan.
  • 1982 - The CBS TV network airs the Walt Disney show, entitled The Adventures of Pollyanna.
  • 1984 - Bhutan issues eleven postage stamps depicting various Disney characters and the history of communications.
  • 1984 - The Silhouette Studio shop opens in Tokyo Disneyland.
  • 1986 - Romania issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in The Band Concert, marking the 50th anniversary of color animated films.
  • 1987 - Disney releases the film Flight of the Navigator to theaters in the UK.
  • 1987 - Disney releases the animated film The Gummi Bears: Faster Than a Speeding Tummi to theaters in England.
  • 1988 - The America Sings attraction in the carousel theater in Tomorrowland at Disneyland closes.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1953 - The General Motors Motorama show is on display in Los Angeles, California, over ten days.
  • 1969 - A labor dispute halts production of 1969 model Corvettes.
  • 1995 - General Motors starts building the first C5 beta test car.
  • 2002 - At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Chevrolet officially unveils the 2003 50th Anniversary Special Edition Corvette coupe, convertible, and Official Pace Car Corvette for the Indianapolis 500 race.
  • 2004 - At the Phoenix International Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona, the Food City 250 race is held, round three of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 5th in SGS class and 20th overall is the Michael Baughman Racing #46 Corvette, driven by Gary St. Amour and Mike Yeakle.
    • Finishing 6th in GT class and 29th overall is the SL Motorsports #06 Corvette, driven by Steve Lisa and Chuck Hemmingson.

  • 2005 - At the Long Beach Street Circuit in Long Beach, California, the Cytomax Challenge/Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach race is held, round one of the Trans-Am Series.
    • Finishing 1st is the Derhaag Motorsports #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.
    • Finishing 5th is the Simms Motorsports #24 Corvette, driven by Philip Simms.
    • Finishing 7th is the Tony Ave Racing #06 Corvette, driven by Joey Scarallo.
    • In 17th place, but not finishing the race, is the Hypermax Engineering #83 Corvette, driven by Max Lagod.

  • 2006 - CBS Television airs the CSI: Miami TV show in the USA. A current-model red convertible Corvette appears.
  • 2010 - At Barber Motorsports Park the Grand-Am Barber race is held, round 3 of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 13th in GT class and 24th overall is the LG Motorsports #28 Corvette, driven by Lux/Collins.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - A British destroyer flotilla is launched against German forces in Narvik, Norway.
  • 1940 - (dawn) British destroyers Hardy, Havock, and Hunter attack German ships at Narvik harbor, in Vest Fjord, achieving complete surprise. They sink destroyers Anton Schmidt and Wilhelm Heidkamp, and sink or destroy eight supply ships.
  • 1940 - (about 0545 hours) At Narvik harbor, five strong German destroyers approach British destroyers from two directions. Hardy is severely damaged, and run aground to get the crew out. Hunter is hit and sinks in under a minute. Hotspur and Hostile are damaged, and with Havock escape to return to England. All five German destroyers are damaged, delaying their departure from Narvik.
  • 1940 - aEn route from Narvik to England, destroyers Hotspur, Hostile, and Havock sink German ammunition ship Rauenfels.
  • 1940 - Norwegian mine-layer Olav Tryggvason hits German cruiser Emden in Oslo fjord.
  • 1940 - (1600 hours) British Coastal Command Wellington bombers make their first air raid on the airfield at Stavanger, Norway.
  • 1940 - Quote by British Foreign Secretary Lord Halifax, describing the German attack on Norway as "really that of a homicidal lunatic or of a mad dog.".
  • 1941 - The German 2nd Army begins its main advance in Greece.
  • 1941 - In Washington, USA, a treaty is signed with the Danish government for the US to take over protection of Greenland.
  • 1941 - (evening) British bombers score four hits on the German battle cruiser Gneisenau in Brest harbor, putting it out of action for several months.
  • 1942 - (evening) British Bomber Command drops its first 8,000-pound bombs, on Essen, Germany.
  • 1944 - The Soviet Red Army re-captures Odessa.
  • 1944 - (evening) British bombers attack railway targets in Ghent, France.
  • 1945 - The British Bomber Command makes an aerial raid on targets in Leipzig.
  • 1945 - Poland issues five postage stamps commemorating the liberation of Cracow.
  • 1967 - Poland issues three postage stamps depicting memorials to the 1939-45 struggle.
  • 2000 - Russia issues five postage stamps marking the 55th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1991 - A Federal Trade Commission investigation of Nintendo is made public. The focus was on allegations of price-fixing. It is announced that Nintendo had signed a consent decree, agreeing to not fix prices or punish retailers who lower suggested prices. Nintendo agrees to mail out $5 coupons to buyers of Nintendo Entertainment Systems between June 1, 1988 and December 30, 1990, toward future Nintendo merchandise.
  • 1995 - Midway Amusement Games releases the Mortal Kombat 3 video game Version 1.0 to arcades in the US.
  • 1998 - Nintendo releases the Yoshi's Story video game for the Nintendo 64 in the UK.
  • 2020 - Square Enix releases the Final Fantasy VII Remake video game for the PlayStation 4 in the USA.

USA coin history:

  • 1793 - US Mint Chief Coiner Henry Voigt delivers 6000 cents to Mint Treasurer.
  • 1806 - In the USA, an Act fixes the legal tender value of gold coins of Great Britain, Portugal, France, Spain, and silver coins of Spain and France.
  • 1816 - Congress passes the Act Regulating the Currency of Foreign Coins in the United States.
  • 1838 - Gold bullion is first deposited at the New Orleans Mint.

Sports history:

  • 1896 - Greek runner Spiridon Loues wins first modern Olympic marathon in Athens (2:58:50).
  • 1913 - President Woodrow Wilson throws out first ball, Washington Senators beat New York Yankees 2-1.
