Personal computer history:

  • 1983 - Tandy announces its TRS-80 Model 100 portable computer. It features Intel 80C85 processor, 8 lines of 40-column text, 240x64 graphics, built-in modem, serial and parallel ports, 32 kB ROM with text editor, telecommunications package, schedule book, address book, and Microsoft BASIC. Weight is four pounds. It runs on four AA alkaline batteries, powering it for about 20 hours. Price is US$799 for 8 kB RAM version, to US$1134 for the 32 kB RAM version. The system is based on the NEC PC-8201 portable computer, which is built by Kyoto Ceramics (Kyocera).
  • 2000 - Intel introduces the 566 and 600 MHz Celeron processors, with multimedia instructions, 66 MHz bus, and 128 kB integrated Level 2 cache. Prices are US$167 and US$181 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2000 - Seagate Technology announces Veritas Software will acquire the company for about US$20 billion. The complex deal will result in Seagate becoming a private company focused on the hard drive business.
  • 2004 - OpenOffice.org releases the OpenOffice 1.1.1 software suite for free download.
  • 2009 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A church reverend uses a handheld "Psalm Pilot" computer, mocking the Palm Pilot. A personal computer displays the Windows "Pipes" screen saver.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1951 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Short Subjects, Two Reels) for the film In Beaver Valley.
  • 1955 - The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway signs a five-year contract with Disney, paying US$50,000 per year in exchange for the name "Santa Fe" and company logo to be used on all Disneyland trains, stations, literature, etc.
  • 1963 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film Miracle of the White Stallions to theaters. The film is based on the book The Dancing White Horses of Vienna by Colonel Alois Podhajsky.
  • 1964 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Greyfriars Bobby, part one.
  • 1970 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled Nature's Strangest Oddballs, with Professor Ludwig Von Drake.
  • 1982 - Maldives issues two postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of Pluto.
  • 1984 - Saul Steinberg, via his company, Reliance Group Holdings, announces that he has acquired 6.3 percent of outstanding shares of Walt Disney Productions.
  • 1985 - The new Frontierland Shootin' Arcade attraction opens in Disneyland. The guns of the Frontierland Shooting Gallery at Disneyland were changed from using lead pellets to infrared beams.
  • 1985 - Disney releases the film Baby ... Secret of the Lost Legend to theaters in the UK.
  • 1987 - The ABC TV network airs The Disney Sunday Movie, entitled Double Agent.
  • 1988 - Disney buys 36 percent of Wrather Corporation, which owns the Disneyland Hotel. Brierley's also buys 36 percent, agreeing to allow Disney to run the Hotel, and develop some land in southern California that is part of the deal.
  • 1989 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Film Editing) to Arthur Schmidt for the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.
  • 1989 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Visual Effects) to Ken Ralston, Richard Williams, Edward Jones, George Gibbs for the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.
  • 1989 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Sound Editing) to Charles Campbell and Louis Edelman for the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.
  • 1989 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Special Achievement) to Richard Williams for animation direction and creation of Jessica and Roger Rabbit for the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.
  • 1993 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Music, Original Score) to Alan Menken for the film Aladdin.
  • 1993 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Music, Original Song) to Alan Menken (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics) for the song "Whole New World" from the film Aladdin.
  • 1996 - Disney TV Animation enters partnership with Jumbo Pictures, creators of Doug.
  • 1999 - Disney relaunches its Web site, disney.go.com, now with twelve main areas. Disney's Daily Blast has been renamed Disney's Club Blast.
  • 2002 - Disney releases the live-action feature film The Rookie to theaters in the US.
  • 2005 - Disney President Robert Iger agrees for the Walt Disney Company to fund some films from Harvey Weinstein's new film studio.
  • 2006 - The CBS TV network airs the last Courting Alex episode.
  • 2009 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A protest sign has four words with first letters prominently showing "ESPN", the Disney sports TV channel.
  • 2011 - The ABC TV network premieres the Body of Proof TV series in the USA.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 2008 - At the Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Gainsco Grand Prix of Miami is held, round 2 of the Grand-American Road Racing Championship.
    • Finishing 20th in GT class and 34th overall is Nonnamaker/Nonnamaker/Nonnamaker in the #43 Team Sahlen Corvette.

World War II history:

  • 1943 - (evening) 329 British bombers attack Berlin, Germany. 21 planes do not return.
  • 1945 - The last German flying bomb to reach England lands in Kent.
  • 1945 - In the English Channel, German submarine U-246 hits Canadian frigate Teme with an acoustic torpedo. The ship survives, but does not fight again.
  • 1995 - Slovenia issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.
  • 1995 - Slovenia issues two postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camps.

Video game history:

  • 1983 - Federal court judge Albert Bryan issues a temporary restraining order barring Atari from requiring its distributors to deal exclusively with Atari items.
  • 1996 - Sega Enterprises and Softbank create Sega Entertainment in the US, to convert Sega products to run on personal computers. First release title is expected by June.
  • 1998 - SquareSoft releases the Parasite Eve video game for the PlayStation in Japan and the US.
  • 2000 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil Code: Veronica video game for the Dreamcast.
  • 2001 - In Japan, Sony releases a cable allowing the PlayStation 2 to connect to i-mode phones for gaming.
  • 2003 - An anonymous hacker reveals a method to run Linux on an unmodified Xbox video game system, by exploiting a buffer overflow flaw in the "save/load game" function of the James Bond 007 in Agent Under Fire video game. The flaw exists in several games, and can be used to load and run other software on the Xbox. The hacker is now eligible to win a US$100,000 challenge funded by Lindows founder Michael Robertson.
  • 2009 - Activision releases the Guitar Hero: Metallica video game for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii in the USA.
  • 2011 - Tecmo Koei releases the Dynasty Warriors 7 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Electronic Arts releases the Shift 2 Unleashed video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1638 - Two Swedish/Dutch ships, the Kalmar Nyckel and the Fogel Grip, arrive at the Delaware river in North America.
  • 1792 - King Gustav III dies.
  • 1809 - King Gustav IV Adolf abdicates the throne. He is imprisoned in Gripsholm castle.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1867 - The British North America Act receives royal assent, giving legislative authority to the parliament of Canada over matters of coinage.
  • 1952 - At a Canada Coin Exchange sale, an Fine-VF 1921 50c coin sells for $205.
  • 1982 - Prime Minister Trudeau announces the appointment of the new Master of the Mint, James C. Corkery, effective April 1.
  • 2012 - Canadian Minister of Finance announces the Royal Canadian Mint will cease distribution of the 1-cent coin in the fall.

USA coin history:

  • 1873 - The Philadelphia Mint suspends dollar coin production.
  • 2004 - The US Mint launches the 2004 Florida State quarter dollar.

Sports history:

  • 1906 - Stanley Cup: Montréal Wanderers sweep Kenora Thisles in two games.
  • 1919 - Stanley Cup: Montréal (NHL) and Seattle (PCHA) win two games each with one tie; 1919 Stanley Cup not awarded due to flu epidemic.
  • 1929 - NHL Stanley Cup: Boston Bruins sweep New York Rangers in two games.
  • 1940 - Joe Louis knocks out Johnny Paycheck in two rounds to retain heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1941 - Third NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Wisconsin beats Washington State 39-34.
  • 1946 - First Test Cricket between Australia and New Zealand.
  • 1946 - Test Cricket debuts of Lindwall, Miller and Tallon.
  • 1948 - New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox tie at 2-2 in 17 innings, spring training game.
  • 1953 - Patty Berg wins LPGA New Orleans Women's Golf Open.
  • 1958 - US Ladies Figure Skating Championship won by Carol Heiss.
  • 1958 - US Men's Figure Skating Championship won by David Jenkins.
  • 1959 - Wes Hall takes Pakistani cricket hat-trick at Lahore.
  • 1966 - Muhammad Ali beats George Chuvalo in 15 rounds for heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1970 - Manchester City wins 10th Europe Cup II.
  • 1973 - Dave Cowens wins NBA Most Valuable Player.
  • 1975 - Jane Blalock wins LPGA Karsten-Ping Golf Open.
  • 1976 - 38th NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Indiana beats Michigan 86-68.
  • 1979 - Delhi beats Karnataka by 399 runs to win Cricket's Ranji Trophy.
  • 1979 - Last day of Test cricket for Mushtaq Mohammad.
  • 1981 - Pat Bradley wins LPGA Women's Kemper Golf Open.
  • 1981 - Tiina Lehtola ski-jumps female record 110 metres.
  • 1981 - The first London Marathon starts with 7,500 runners.
  • 1982 - 44th NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: North Carolina beats Georgetown 63-62.
  • 1982 - Delhi 707 beats Karnataka 705 on first innings to win Ranji Trophy.
  • 1984 - NFL Baltimore Colts move to Indianapolis under cover of night.
  • 1985 - Wayne Gretzky breaks own NHL season record with 126th assist.
  • 1987 - 6th NCAA Women's Basketball Championship: Tennessee beats Louisiana Tech 67-44.
  • 1987 - Pat Bradley wins LPGA Standard Register Turquoise Golf Classic.
  • 1987 - Australian Football League expansion team, the West Coast Eagles, play their first ever match (not including pre-season). They defeat the Richmond Tigers 20.13 (133) to 16.23 (119).
  • 1989 - First Soviet hockey players are permitted to play for the NHL.
  • 1990 - Houston Rockets' Akeen Olajuwan scores the third NBA quadruple double 18 points, 16 rebounds, ten assists and 11 blocks versus Milwaukee Bucks.
  • 1992 - 21st Nabisco Dinah Shore Golf Championship won by Dottie Mochrie.
  • 1992 - NCAA Basketball Women's Championship at Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Stanford beats Western Kentucky 78-62.
  • 1992 - World Ice Dance Championship in Oakland won by Klimova and Ponomarenko (CIS).
  • 1992 - World Ice Pairs Figure Skating Championship in Oakland won by Mishuktienok and Dmitriev (CIS).

  • 2009 - At least 22 people are killed and 132 injured in a stampede before a World Cup of soccer qualifying match in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
  • 2009 - In Melbourne, Australia, round 1 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Jenson Button.
  • 2022 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Dallas Stars beats Anaheim Ducks by score 3-2.
