Personal computer history:

  • 1990 - Sierra acquires the Dynamix company.
  • 1991 - Sierra Online and Broderbund Software cancel their proposed merger, three weeks after the announcement.
  • 1992 - Microsoft releases the Microsoft Excel 4.0 software for Windows in the US. Price is US$495.
  • 1997 - Gateway 2000 announces plans to acquire German company Amiga Technologies. The company will be renamed Amiga International, and retain president Petro Tyschtschenko.
  • 2002 - In New York, Sony announces it will begin selling its Clie PEG-NR70 and PEG-NR70V in the US in early May, for US$500 and US$600 respectively.
  • 2005 - Netherlands issues a postage stamp depicting business symbols, including a personal computer.
  • 2011 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A computer monitor, keyboard, and headset appear.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - Disney completes the 15th Alice Comedy film, Alice's Egg Plant.
  • 1930 - George Borgfeldt & Company of New York issues its first Disney merchandising license to Walkburger, Tanner and Company of St. Gall, Switzerland, for manufacturing handkerchiefs featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
  • 1931 - Disney completes the Mickey Mouse film The Castaway.
  • 1952 - The Burbank Daily Review reports on the first public announcement of a proposed US$1.5 million development called Disneyland at the corner of Riverside and Buena Vista roads.
  • 1957 - Ingersoll-Waterbury presents Walt Disney with the 25-millionth Mickey Mouse watch.
  • 1957 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled Donald's Award. Jiminy Cricket also appears.
  • 1958 - The third locomotive for the Disneyland railroad makes its first test run around the park.
  • 1959 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring an expanded version of the film Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom.
  • 1961 - The Snow White Wishing Well and Grotto opens in Fantasyland at Disneyland.
  • 1966 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring A Tiger Walks, part two.
  • 1984 - Disney increases its line of credit with the Bank of America and other banks from US$300 million to US$1.3 billion.
  • 1987 - The ABC TV network airs the last episode of the Disney TV show Harry.
  • 1987 - The ABC TV network airs the show Waco & Rhinehart as a pilot for a series.
  • 1989 - The Walt Disney World Casting Center building opens.
  • 1994 - The CBS TV network airs the film The Corpse Had a Familiar Face.
  • 1995 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role) to Martin Landau for his role in the film Ed Wood.
  • 1995 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Achievement in Makeup) to Rick Baker, Ve Neill, and Yolanda Toussieng for the film Ed Wood.
  • 1995 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Achievement in Music (Original Score)) to Hans Zimmer for the film The Lion King.
  • 1995 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Achievement in Music (Original Song)) to Elton John (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics) for the song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the film The Lion King.
  • 1996 - Disney releases the film The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh on videocassette and laserdisc in the US.
  • 1996 - The ABC TV network airs the last Buddies TV show.
  • 2001 - Disney announces it will reduce its workforce by 4000 jobs by the end of July, to reduce costs.
  • 2004 - Touchstone world premieres the film The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.
  • 2007 - Disney Interactive Studios releases the Meet the Robinsons video game for the PlayStation 2 in the USA.
  • 2010 - The live musical show Villains Tonight! premieres aboard the Disney Magic.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1953 - General Motors applies with the US Patent and Trademark office for a trademark on "CORVETTE" in stylized script with all letters joined.
  • 1965 - In Sebring, Florida, the 12 Hours of Sebring race is held.
    • Finishing 2nd in Prototype GT +4000 class, 6th in GTP class, 14th overall, is the George Wintersteen #2 Corvette Grand Sport #005, driven by George Wintersteen, Peter Goetz, and Milton Diehl.
    • Finishing 1st in Grand Touring +5000 class, 33rd overall, is the George Robertson #5 Corvette, driven by George Robertson and Dick Boo.
    • Finishing 3rd in Prototype GT +4000 class, 36th overall, is the Ridgeway Racing #1 Corvette Grand Sport #003, driven by Delmo Johnson and Dave Morgan. The car has a development L88 engine, and runs up to 180-mph.
    • Don Yenko and John Bushell drive the Ken Hablow #6 Corvette in Grand Touring +5000 class. After 61 laps it retires after losing a wheel and suspension failure. They place 51st overall.

  • 1978 - The Wall Street Journal newspaper runs a front-page article about the 1978 Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car replicas, indicating they would be excellent investments.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - At a Foreign Policy Committee meeting of the British Cabinet, the Ministers decide to side with Poland, rather than try for a multi-nation agreement involving the Soviet Union.
  • 1939 - British Foreign Secretary Lord Halifax sends a telegram to H. Kennard of Warsaw, Poland, and R. Hoare of Bucharest, Romania, suggesting England, France, Poland, and Romania agree to help any of the group if attacked by Germany.
  • 1941 - (0020 hours) A military revolt in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, lead by General Dusan Simovic, overthrows the Regency and pro-Axis government.
  • 1941 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive No. 25, ordering the military annihilation of Yugoslavia in retaliation for its coup. Operation Barbarossa, the planned attack on the Soviet Union, is postponed from May 15 for at least a month. Yugoslavia and Greece are to be attacked on April 6.
  • 1941 - The Italian navy sets out to attack the British convoy route to Greece. British planes from the carrier Formidable engage the ships, sinking the destroyer Pola and two cruisers.
  • 1942 - In Canada, an order-in-council is issued giving the Custodian of Enemy Alien Property the power to sell confiscated property.
  • 1943 - The British Secret Intelligence Service headquarters receives the transcript of a recorded conversation between two captured German generals about rockets to start hitting London next year.
  • 1943 - Near Tunisia, the British 8th Army reaches Gabés.
  • 1943 - (evening) 396 British bombers attack Berlin, Germany.
  • 1945 - British bombers destroy a new German submarine shelter at Farge, using 22,000-pound bombs.
  • 1945 - (0300 hours) A German V-2 rocket lands in Deptford, England, killing 52, seriously injuring 32.
  • 1945 - (0721 hours) A German V-2 rocket hits the Hughes Mansions area in Vallance Road, Stepney, England, killing 134, seriously injuring 49. This is the second-highest British death toll by a V-2 rocket, and the second-last to hit England.
  • 1945 - Argentina declares war on Germany.
  • 1945 - (1637 hours) The 1115th and last German V-2 rocket to reach England lands thirteen miles south-east of Stepney, in Orpington, killing one and injuring about 70. Germany launched a total of 1403 rockets at England, of which 1054 exploded on the ground, killing 2754, seriously injuring 6523.
  • 1992 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the raid on St.-Nazaire, France.

Video game history:

  • 1998 - Nintendo introduces the Pocket Pikachi pedometer in Japan.
  • 2011 - Nintendo launches the Nintendo 3DS handheld video game system in North America. It features dual screens, one of them 3-D capable, analog Circle Pad, "+" pad, ABXY buttons, three built-in cameras, microphone, gyro sensor. Case colors are Cosmo Black or Aqua Blue. Price is $249.99.
  • 2011 - Capcom releases the Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition for the Nintendo 3DS in the US.
  • 2011 - Nintendo releases the Pilotwings Resort video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the US.
  • 2011 - Nintendo releases the Nintendogs and Cats video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the US.
  • 2011 - Ubisoft releases the Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1846 - Fredrik Dahlgren first presents his play Värmlänningarna at the Royal Theater in Stockholm.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1919 - The Finance Minister announces that the 1c coin will be reduced in size, closer to the size of the US 1c coin.

USA coin history:

  • 1806 - A bill is introduced in Congress for coinage of 2-cent coin and 20-cent coin.
  • 1838 - The Charlotte Mint begins striking 1838 gold half eagles for circulation, first US coins with a mint mark ("C").
  • 1942 - War Powers Act is signed into law as Public Law 507, providing for temporary change of 5-cent alloy to 56 percent copper, 35 percent silver, 9 percent manganese.

Sports history:

  • 1871 - First international rugby game-Scotland 1, England 0.
  • 1879 - Longest championship fight takes place (136 rounds).
  • 1928 - US Ladies Figure Skating Championship won by Maribel Vinson.
  • 1928 - US Men's Figure Skating Championship won by Roger Turner.
  • 1931 - John McGraw says night baseball will not catch on.
  • 1939 - First NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: University of Oregon beats Ohio State 46-33.
  • 1942 - Joe Louis knocks out Abe Simon in six to retain heavyweight boxing title (New York City, New York).
  • 1945 - 7th NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Oklahoma State beats NYU 49-44.
  • 1945 - DePaul beats Bowling Green for NIT title.
  • 1951 - 13th NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Kentucky beats Kansas 68-58.
  • 1960 - Wiffi Smith wins LPGA Royal Crown Golf Open.
  • 1962 - Jacques Plante ties record winning 6th NHL Vezina trophy.
  • 1966 - Marilynn Smith wins LPGA Louise Suggs Delray Beach Golf Invitational.
  • 1966 - The Jules Rimet trophy (World Cup), stolen March 20, is found by a dog in South Norwood, England.
  • 1971 - 33rd NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: UCLA beats Villanova 68-62; this is UCLA's 5th consecutive NCAA basketball title.
  • 1972 - Adolph Rupp retires after 42 years of coaching University of Kentucky.
  • 1973 - Dennis Amiss out for 99 versus Pakistan, third 99 in Test Cricket.
  • 1976 - Delta States beat Immaculata, 69-64, for AIWA basketball title.
  • 1977 - Sandra Palmer wins LPGA Kathryn Crosby/Honda Civic Golf Classic.
  • 1978 - 40th NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Kentucky beats Duke 94-88.
  • 1982 - Randy Holt sets Washington Capitals' record of 34 penalty minutes.
  • 1982 - Imran takes 14-116 for cricket match versus Sri Lanka at Lahore.
  • 1983 - Larry Holmes beats Lucien Rodriguez in 12 rounds for heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1988 - Ok-Hee Ku wins Standard Register Turquoise Classic Golf Tournament.
  • 1988 - World Ice Dance Championship in Budapest won by Bestemianova and Bukin (USSR).
  • 1988 - World Ice Pairs Figure Skating Championship in Budapest won by E Valova and O Vasiliev (USSR).
  • 1988 - World Ladies Figure Skating Championship in Budapest won by Katarina Witt (German Democratic Republic).
  • 1988 - World Men's Figure Skating Championship in Budapest won by Brian Boitano (USA).
  • 1989 - Delhi beats Bengal by innings and 210 to win Cricket's Ranji Trophy.
  • 1989 - Sports Illustrated magazine exposes baseball player Pete Rose's gambling activities. The article alleges 'Charlie Hustle' bet from the Riverfront dugout using hand gestures with an associate.
  • 1990 - New South Wales beats Queensland by 345 runs to win Sheffield Shield Final.
  • 1991 - NCAA bans University of Minnesota football team from postseason play in 1992.
  • 1991 - Scotty Bowman and Neil Armstrong elected to NHL Hall of Fame.
  • 1994 - 23rd Nabisco Dinah Shore Golf Championship won by Donna Andrews.
  • 1994 - World Ice Dance Championship in Chiba Japan won by Gritschuk and Platov (Russia).

  • 2022 - At Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, NHL regular season game: Winnipeg Jets beats Arizona Coyotes by score 2-1.
  • 2022 - At Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, USA, NHL regular season game: New Jersey Devils beats Montreal Canadiens by score 3-2.

  • 1994 - The biggest tornado outbreak in 1994 occurs in the southeastern United States. One tornado hits a United Methodist Church in Piedmont, Alabama, killing 22.

USA history:

  • 1794 - US Congress authorizes the President "to provide a naval armament" (US Navy).
  • 1814 - Battle at Horseshoe Bend: General Andrew Jackson beats Creek-Indians.
  • 1836 - First Mormon temple is dedicated (Kirtland, Ohio).
  • 1841 - First US steam-powered fire engine tested, in New York City, New York.
  • 1865 - Siege of Spanish Fort, Alabama: captured by Federals.
  • 1866 - US President Andrew Johnson vetoes civil rights bill; it later becomes 14th Amendment.
  • 1884 - First long-distance telephone call, Boston to New York, USA.
  • 1917 - Leon Trotsky AKA Lev Davidovich Bronstein leaves the US by ship, along with almost 300 revolutionaries and Wall Street money, with purpose to overthrow the provisional government in Russia and stop the war with Germany.
  • 1930 - First US radio broadcast from a ship at sea.

  • 1979 - US Supreme Court rules 8-1 that police can't randomly stop cars.
  • 1980 - Mount Saint Helens in Washington state becomes active after 123 years.
  • 1985 - Billy Dee Williams receives a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • 1995 - 67th Academy Awards: Forest Gump, Tom Hanks and Jessica Lange win.
  • 1997 - Martin Luther King's son meets with James Earl Ray.
  • 1998 - The US Food and Drug Administration approves Viagra for use as a treatment for male sexual impotence, the first pill to be approved for this condition in the United States.
