Personal computer history:

  • 1989 - The ABC TV network airs the movie Get Smart Again. Appearing is an Amiga A1000 computer with 1080 monitor.
  • 1997 - 3Com announces it will acquire U.S. Robotics in a US$6.6 billion stock swap.
  • 1999 - Intel announces the Pentium III processor. Initial speeds are 450 and 500 MHz. The processor introduces 70 new Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE). Each processor has a unique identity code that can be accessed over the Internet. Code-name for the processor during development was Katmai.
  • 2008 - Lenovo launches the ThinkPad X300 portable computer. It features 13.3-inch 1440x900 pixel LED display, DVD drive; under 1-inch thick, about 3 pounds weight.

  • 1928 - The Colony Theatre in New York City premieres the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film Rival Romeos.
  • 1934 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Building a Building for an Oscar Award in the category Short Subjects, Cartoons.
  • 1934 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Three Little Pigs for an Oscar Award in the category Short Subjects, Cartoons.
  • 1942 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture) for the film Dumbo.
  • 1942 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Short Subjects, Cartoons) to Disney for the film Lend a Paw.

  • 1962 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film The Absent Minded Professor for an Oscar Award in the category Cinematography, Black and White.

  • 1995 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character watching ballet says "I haven't been moved like this since The Joy Luck Club", a Disney film.
  • 1996 - Grenada issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters dancing.
  • 1998 - The All Star Cafe debuts at Disney's Wide World of Sports resort at Walt Disney World.
  • 1999 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film The Other Sister to theaters in the USA.
  • 2002 - Disney releases the animated film Cinderella II: Dreams Come True on videocassette and DVD.
  • 2014 - The live musical play Aladdin begins Broadway previews at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

World War II history:

  • 1935 - In England, British scientists make the first test of radio wave detection of air planes by short-wave transmitter tower and mobile radio receivers. The test is a success.
  • 1942 - In Canada, Japanese Canadians are ordered evacuated from the west coast.
  • 1942 - (evening) British bombers score a direct hit on German warship Gneisenau, putting an end to it.
  • 1943 - Near Tunisia, German commander General Dietloff Juergen von Arnim launches panzers along a 70-mile stretch, with objective Beja. The attack is a failure, with the loss of 71 tanks and 2500 prisoners.
  • 1943 - (evening) 417 British bombers attack Cologne, Germany.
  • 1945 - (0345 hours) In Holland, Operation Blockbuster begins with an artillery barrage by the Canadian 1st Army on northern frontline in Germany.
  • 1945 - In Europe, 2nd and 3rd Canadian Infantry Divisions and 4th Armoured Division begin attacking German defences in the Hochwald Forest and Balberger heights.

Video game history:

  • 1998 - Sony releases PlayStation memory cards in black, candy orange, cherry red, crystal, emerald, gray, island blue, and lemon yellow.
  • 2002 - Sony announces it is releasing a new line of discounted "Greatest hits" titles for the PlayStation 2 for US$25 each. Titles are eligible when they have been out for eight months and have sold over 400,000 copies. First releases will be on April 1.
  • 2008 - Square Enix releases the Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors video game for the Nintendo Wii in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1658 - Denmark signs peace with Sweden at Roskilde, giving up Skåne, Blekinge, Bohuslän, island of Bornholm, and province of Trondheim in central Norway.
  • 1959 - The USSR issues a postage stamp depicting Selma Lagerlöf, Swedish writer.

USA coin history:

  • 1808 - The US Mint strikes 2710 copies of the Capped Draped Bust gold $2.50 quarter eagle.

Sports history:

  • 1839 - Jem Mason riding on Lottery horse wins first Grand National Steeplechase (Britain).
  • 1887 - George Lohmann takes first 8-wicket haul in Test Crickets, 8-35 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
  • 1893 - Einar Halvorsen skates world record 500 metre (48 seconds).
  • 1918 - Stands at Hong Kong Jockey Club collapse and burn, killing 604.
  • 1930 - West Indies make first Test Cricket win, by 289 runs over England.
  • 1935 - New York Yankees release Babe Ruth, he signs with Boston Braves.
  • 1938 - Rie Van Veen swims world record 200 metre free-style (2:24.6).
  • 1938 - US female Figure Skating championship won by Joan Tozzer.
  • 1938 - US male Figure Skating championship won by Robin Lee.
  • 1941 - Two fighters unable to continue slugfest, referee declares double knockout.
  • 1956 - Betsy Rawls wins LPGA Sarasota Golf Open.
  • 1960 - USA's David Jenkins wins the Olympics Gold for men's figure skating.
  • 1962 - Wilt Chamberlain of NBA Philadelphia Warriors scores 67 points vs New York Jets.
  • 1964 - Boxer Cassius Clay announces he is changing his name to Muhammad Ali.
  • 1973 - Triple Crown horse Secretariat bought for a record US$5.7 million.
  • 1978 - Nancy Lopez wins LPGA Bent Tree Golf Classic.
  • 1980 - R Hadlee scores Test Cricket century versus Roberts, Garner, Holding, Croft.
  • 1981 - Boston Bruins and Minnesota North Stars play most penalty-filled NHL game-406 minutes total.
  • 1982 - Test Cricket debut of Martin Crowe, versus Australia Wellington, run out 9.
  • 1986 - Evert van Benthem wins 14th Frisian 11-Cities skating race (6:55:16).
  • 1987 - NBA's Michael Jordan's 58 points is a Chicago Bulls' record.
  • 1987 - Washington Bullets block 20 Indiana Pacers shots tying NBA regulation game record.
  • 1988 - Christa Rotherburger (German Democratic Republic) skates ladies world record 1000 metre (1:17.65).
  • 1989 - Betsy King wins LPGA Women's Kemper Golf Open/Helene Curtis Pro-Am.
  • 1989 - California court throws out most of Margo Adams's US$12 million breach-of-contract suit against Boston Red Sox third baseman Wade Boggs.
  • 1989 - New York Yankees announce that Tom Seaver is their new TV sportscaster.
  • 1991 - Asanka Gurusinha scores twin Test Cricket tons versus New Zealand (119 and 102).
  • 1991 - Bill Veeck and Tony Lazzeri are elected to Baseball Hall of Fame.
  • 1991 - New York-New Jersey Knights (WLAF) players first come together.
  • 1993 - Allan Border beats Gavaskar's record for most Test Cricket runs 10,123.
  • 1994 - NHL's Saint Louis Blues beat Ottawa Senators 11-1.
  • 1998 - Steven M Gluckstern completes sale of New York Islanders.
  • 2022 - At crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Los Angeles Kings beats New York Islanders by score 5-2.
  • 2022 - At SAP Center in San Jose, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Boston Bruins beats San Jose Sharks by score 3-1.
  • 2022 - At T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, NHL regular season game: Colorado Avalanche beats Vegas Golden Knights by score 3-2.

  • 1869 - 15th Amendment to US Constitution guaranteeing right to vote sent to states for ratification.
  • 1870 - First New York City subway line opens (pneumatic powered).
  • 1895 - Michael Owens of Toledo Ohio patents a glass-blowing machine.
  • 1907 - US Congress raises their own salaries to $7500.
  • 1914 - New York Museum of Science and Industry is incorporated.
  • 1917 - The Original Dixieland Jass Band records the first ever jazz record for the Victor Talking Machine Company in New York.
  • 1919 - Acadia National Park is established as Lafayette National Park in Maine, USA.
  • 1919 - The Grand Canyon in Arizona is established by Congress as a national park in the United States.

  • 1993 - In New York City, a van bomb parked below the North Tower of the World Trade Center explodes, killing six and injuring over 1,000.
  • 1996 - Silicon Graphics makes a cash tender offer of US$30 per share for 75 percent of Cray Research stock, for a total cost of US$576 million. The merger is expected to be completed by June.
  • 2003 - An American businessman is admitted to the Vietnam France Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam with the first identified case of SARS. WHO doctor Carlo Urbani reports the unusual highly contagious disease to WHO.
  • 2004 - The United States lifts a 23-year travel ban against Libya.
  • 2009 - American automaker General Motors reports it lost US$30.8 billion for 2008. Over the past four years, the company's US$82 billion losses is equivalent to about $56 million a day.
  • 2009 - US President Barack Obama proposes a 2009/10 budget of US$3.6 trillion, with a US$1.75 trillion deficit, the highest ever, amounting to a 12.3 percent share of the economy, the largest since 1945. Planned spending includes US$634 billion to pay for healthcare reform, US$200 billion fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, and an extra US$250 billion set aside in case it is needed to bail out US banks.
